  • Need advice on the rear tyre.

    HI guys,

I am new to this forum.Recently I bought a used Yamaha FZ16 with a rear Continental 140/70 17 inch tyre.. After three days the bike suddenly stopped and I was not able to turn on the engine, even the display was not turning on.I took the bikie to Excellent Yamaha Service Center,Andheri East. There, they replaced the battery and I could turn it on.But the mechanic there advised me to get the stock tyre as 140/17 was unbearable for the FZ16.Guys, I am very much confused on what to do now.Shall I continue with the same tyre or shall I get the stock tyre in the rear.

Please let me know all the advantages/disadvantages of this tyre Continental 140/70 17 inch on FZ16.

Continental tyre has crappy handling properties so much that a lot of cbr250r riders are looking for alternatives. If you intend to change it for more grip and better protection against punctures then you can check out Dunlop Tuff grip, comes with the same profile as contigo i.e 140-70-17.

I guess the mechanic advised you returning the ride's profile to stock as changing to any other profile in the long run will put a load on the stock chain and sprockets plus because of minute increase in height, it will put more load on the front tyres and affect braking. In a way theoretically he is right. However, i beg to differ in such case. The ride height will be higher and suspension will feel stiffer compared to stock. There are more than enough users who have gone ahead with this mod without any trouble. Try tuff grip.. would rate it a better tyre any day.

I would also recommend that you get your ride's tyres treated with tyre sealant Ride On TPS Available across petrol bunk. Check FZ'thread and search for posts related to ride on TPS and get in touch with Tejas since, you are based in Mumbai. It balances the tyres automatically, reduces vibrations and ofcourse protection against punctures.

      Hope this was helpful.

      Cheers,

According to the workshop manual of Fz16,
The Inlet is 0.08 to 0.12mm.
          Exhaust is 0.12 to 0.16mm.

The link is there at the bottom. Copy & paste it your Browser's address bar for Direct download of Fz16 Workshop manual. But its in some Different language. Spanish i think.
It will be helpful though. Valve Clearance at page 2-4.

                Hello friends,

I am facing a problem with my 2 year old Fazer. I hear a resonant sound from the engine like vibration sound of a metal part at particular RPM in every gear. My bike used to deliver the mileage of 45 kmpl either sanely or insanely before. But, now I am not getting more than 40 kmpl. The mechanic in the Yamaha showroom told me to change the petrol and if the problem still persists change the bore kit. From then onwards I am using Shell petrol and the resonant sound decreased little bit but the mileage is still around 40 kmpl. Also, I feel little bit of engine over heating now. Do any of you faced this kind of problem, please help me.

Guys, I own a Fazer since last 1 year and that is my first bike. Even I learnt to ride on that bike only. Till date I have 0 problem with the fazer. But the pinch is if the rear tire pressure is a little less than recommend, then under a bit hard breaking the rear end skids laterally. I mean from ' | ' to ' \ '. But the front end stays firm. Is it a real problem or I am complaining for nothing. Actually whenever such thing occurs, it reminds me to check the tire pressure.

If you're not concern about the speed, I think this bike will fit for you. I owned a Yamaha FZ16 and my top speed is only 115kph. This is not the top speed I am expecting because this bike is 153cc. I can't even beat a XRM125 in the road. I'm sure that there are lots of FZ16 user are experiencing the same problem.

This is a Joke. A big Joke. I owned a Yamaha FZ16 for almost 2 years but my top speed is only 115kph. It's impossible to reach the 220kph because this bike is only 153cc.
