i Got an HH Ambition in 2003. just passed out from my Bcom and i wanted a bike, options available was only zma, cbz, p150 and p180...lot others but i was a bit on the dumber side to understand the specification of the bike. I went in for the looks..i know it sucks now but u can add that too my poor taste of looks and understanding....mom said she would give me 40000 odd..i tried my best to arrange for some more funds...managed 51000 and got this....she is still with me...running fine and going places..taking me along....i am very happy with the performance..although i need a new bike..

I have an (THE) Uni '07, and my reasons of having it....

Well... I didn't select this one right away, my way of choosing a thing is delisting the items from the options... I was looking for something 150cc or, above... Basically 150cc, options I had -
      Pulsar -
      - Everyone has it (Doodhwala, Paperwala, Sabziwala, lallu, panju, sabkoi).
      - In my apartment, which currently has 6 families, two guys already have Pulsars (V1 and V3), so another Pulsar was wayy too lame for me
      - Also, I don't like BAL's cheapness/ misery in numerous parts..
      Apache -
      - A far friend of mine has it.
      - Also my cuz sis's Scooty is troublesome (that maybe different offering, but it gave troubles, that's it), so I don't rely on TVS at all.

I didn't even bother going to their showrooms, I am down to HH/ HMSI..

CBZ Xtreme - Okay, it's rear drove me wild, but
      - It's front was a big letdown.. Shivji third-eye inspired funny thingy.. HH desisgners started from the rear and got lazy in front..
      - The guys I know having CBZ v.1, complained of it's mileage... They suggested better go for Uni.
      Hunk -
      - It was just launched, so it wasn't available in ready stock.. And, I needed a bike immediately... so, this got de-listed..
      - Also, it's tail was a let-down.. This time HH started from front and got lazy towards rear...

      Next down to Uni..
      - It's tail is fine, body is fine, front is decent enough (better than CBZX atleast)... Actually, as overall package Uni looked best.
      - Also, it provides best mileage in it's class (Okay... I have to care about mileage, coz I ain't earning full-time yet and I have to manage the fuel within my stipend limit, parents wanted me to have something around 100-125ccs, going against them resulted in no funding for fuel)..
      - There aren't much Unis in the market, gave a feel of exclusivity.
      - It had Monoshocks which no other bike offered at that time, one Uncle wondered where were it's rear shockers, in a petrol-pump.
      - The the main thing, it is HONDA.

That might be funny way to choose a bike, but, that my wayyy babbyyy, and I don't repent of my decision, so far!

        My RX 100

My Love for Bikes started when I was in my School in Ooty where i remember saying to my friends I would own a bike like that some day. The bike was a KB 100 and it was owned by a affluent guy near our place. I basically like the bike for the audio part then. I also liked the Yezdi's and RD's.

I then lost connection with base for quite sometime. Than when i moved to coimbatore for schooling I came across Martin my class mate and a bike freak. There was a gang famous for its notoriety and trouble which i was a part of. I persuaded by Dad to buy me a Bicycle then. Initially he refused as the road to my school Coimbatore to Mettupalayam is know for accidents and fast buses.

Martin had a RX 100 which his brother used, I was a little bit scared then seeing him pull of wheelies at ease. Then I was not inclined towards it.

During my college days my friends rode a TVS supra , Shogun and other stuff but not an RX until my final year. My friend pimped up his ride and it was the talk of the college, we organised a drag race between a RX ,CBZ and shogun where the RX won that was the day when i stared loving RX 100.

When i moved on for my higher studies (my college was 35 clicks down the NH47 from Coimbatore to Salem). My friends had all varieties of bikes ranging from a caliber to fiero etc an RX included.

I made up my mind to buy a bike and had a budget of just 4000 rupees which was all that i had saved I thought about a old JAWA, Yezdi, Suzuki Ax100, REML FURY.

I nearly fell for the fury as it was dirt cheap at just 2500 bucks but made up my mind not to go for it then. My friends used to tease me as a person who did not have a bike or rides a bike but talks about the classes of DUCATI DESMO R1 and stuff.

On completing my college I joined a job which was not of my liking but had to pursue it just for the liquidity matters. My younger bro was to join college and i thought of buying a bike but was waiting for a yamaha. Heard about the gladi 16 then so just put things on hole but as there were no updates from Yamaha I was under pressure to buy a bike and my bro being a fan of yamaha we decided to go for the rx100 a 1995 model from a old man.

Boy o Boy I fell in love with the bike and it did sweep me off my feet when i rode pillion to my brother and he used to race the much dreaded Private buses and other vehicles down the mettupalayam road. He played around with the bikes silencer and gave it a grunt much to the envy of my neighbours. I slowly started riding and started to race the likes of folks driving down the highway. I had a bad period when every week i had a puncture and landed in the gravel searching for some valuable artifacts. I never maintained my bike but still it has never let me down even once. I am known for my crashes and fast driving style in my office. I dont get requests for lift from most of the folks.

I am completely in love of the bike and it perfectly suits my passion and character of never say die! I am heading for a new heart for my buddy sometime this month with some new clothes to flaunt about. I am also planning for another Yamaha in my lineup. So lets just see how things turn up. Until further updates.

        cheers

          Fuzzy (FZ-16)

There are times when you have to convince yourself to do something, when you have to convince yourself as to which kind of bike you have to buy. That is when you compare it with all the other bikes, because you need a good bike.

I learned a how to ride a bike only last year. I wanted my own bike now. I liked P180. But as I rode many of the P's that were there, I always felt there is a reliability issue.

I liked the CBZ. I took it on the Highway and it gave no problems. Smooth and stable at 100KMPH on avg. But then it was old. Unicorn, well well. That was to be. But then they launched Hunk. The looks I liked. The reliability was not an issue. The engine was same as CBZ. But then, deep down, I was convincing myself!!

Then, there are times when you just fall in love on the very first sight. You see nothing else. There are no bikes to compare. Why?? Well to you, this is The Only Bike!!

Yes, thats what I felt when I first saw the pics of Yamaha's FZ-16 (now christened Fuzzy by me!!) That very second I knew, this is the bike I want. And I did.

Waited over 6 months (patiently) to book the bike.
Waited 4 weeks (impatiently) to get the bike !!

A proud owner of Black Fuzzy!!

            Bullet Electra 5s

No second thought about Electra 5s.

Learned riding bikes on Yamaha RD 350. Got my first bike Yamaha Rx 100 just a day after I received my license. Used it for something 4years. Then changed my bike (worst decision) to Splendour. Used it for 2 years and could feel my seating was declining towards right side and it appeared really funny . So, changed bike to Yamaha Libero (as average was in my mind).
Recently, brought Bullet Electra 5s . I had tough times comparing bikes at higher end. Though, I considered ZMA, R15 and Pulsar 220. But, the extent fiber is used on these really lowers my choice (no offence). Recently, saw FZ16, great job Yamaha (it could have been a bit earlier in Indian market).

            Reason for my preference:
            1. Heavy bike (stability), really, Deja-vu when riding..
            2. Power (18bhp, 350cc)
            3. Control & braking (disc brakes)
            4. Comfortable for long runs.

Summing it up: proud to be a Bull rider...
Bullet, Nothing else will ever do...

              kinetic hinda and rx 100

it was my first year in engineering in 2003 and had to start my tuitions for few subjects. i needed a ride to reach the location. i told dad that i needed a bike. reply was " can u ride the bike in the bangalore traffic? all those clutches gears and headache. i will get u a scooty"
me: "what? scooty? dad its a girl moped. i want bike."
dad: "no bike for you, and you dont even know how to ride one. i will get you a kinetic."
me: "well i cant argue with you, fine.. get me whatever you like"

and next week i had a kinetic to take me around the city for tuitions and parties.

              year 2008
after five years and money spent on kinetic maintenance , i decided i shift to a bike. now since i am earning dad cant take the upper hand in the argument. so told dad that i am looking for bike.
"why do u need a bike?"
me : "i am tired of riding this and you know about my back ache problem"
dad : " heard honda dio is good, buy that"
me : "dad, i need a bike and i will manage somehow"
dad : "do u know how to ride?"
me : " no i dont know. But i will learn after i buy "
dad : "ok decide which one do u want"
              me : "ok dad"

now since i had a green signal from family i went on and started doing researches about bikes. this is how i even got a membership in xbhp to get the help from the best.
so while the discussion were on, my search took to second hand bikes and finally i got hold of RX100.

              the reason for RX100 was
              1. its history
              2. its ability
              3. it packs the performance and economy
              4. got the most votes against other bikes( other than 135)

so finally got hold of RX100 and am happily riding it.

P.S i am still learning to ride though.
Bikes don't spill oil, they mark their territory.

                Nice Thread.

                BIKE nothing less nothing more.

Everything about it was perfect(more or less it still is) that VFR inspired styling, sporty yet comfortable sitting position, loads of power and torque, that ultra smooth engine, digital read outs etc etc..

Now after almost 2 & half years and 40000 kms. The dragon of desire is raising its head again, craving to own something bigger and better is back in full force..

                  Unicorn

                  Bike - Unicorn
                  Reason for buying - 'It's a HONDA'

In the last four years I have commuted on it, toured on it, raced on it, stunted on it and badly crashed on it. It still runs the way it ran the first day. And other than looks and gizmos, it is the best 150 in India as of today.

In my personal opinion it is the best bike in country as of today and this statement comes after extensively riding pulsars, apaches, bulls and zmas on all kind of terrain and owning a rd and rx along with uni.

I desperately want to upgrade now and pleading to Honda to come up with a new bike in 200-250 cc segment. I cannot buy the same bike again after four years with some different paint job and stickers.I think this is where Honda went wrong, since their old versions are still running as good as new they cannot lure old brand loyal customers like me with these updates.

                  cheers

My First bike:1999 Kinetic Honda Marvel.
Reason:I was in 10th Standard & the laws prohibited to ride anything bigger than 65 CC with gears.Dad was furious about letting his beloved Brand New Kinetic part way with him but i managed to convince that 97 cc is very much close to 65 cc..I still have the Marvel in bhubaneswar(77000kms).

Pros:It was a the very best that money could by those days for 42 Grands.
I could easily win Traffic Light drag races back then(competition being Hero Puchs),Got an amazing ride, brakes & handling.(I still like her ride quality.Almost as good as my current ride,The Avenger)

Cons:I dont think it has any for City ride.

                    Second Bike:2001:CBZ
1st year in college & I top the ranks. Finally managed to convince Dad to get me a CBZ(though it was illegal to ride it at the age of 17).
Sad part:Was stolen after about 3 months from my college parking lot.

                    Pulsar 150 V1:2003
In engineering college me & 3 of my friends contributed 10k each & bought a second hand Silver Pulsar 150.

                    Apache 150:2006 July
Got my first pay from my first job. What did i need then..a bike. The Apache was launched just then & i was honestly smitten by it.I remember reading on a mag "Red Hot Indian" and the test ride made me pay the amount & take the bike home next day.I even threatend the TVS showroom guys to deliver it to me the same day or i would buy the P-180.
Pros:The bike is brilliant in every aspect apart from ride quality.Good show-off qualities as well..
The touring bug bit me when i took the apache on a solo ride to Srisailem about a month later.
COns:My Back used to curse me for me touring on Apache..

                    Avenger 200:2008 Feb
                    19 months & 28000ks later i decided to Upgrade.
                    Bike Avenger
Reason:Its a sofa on wheels. The only bike suited for high speed interstate thrash,at the same time keeping my back happy..

on 28th November about 9 months & 12.5K kms later i am riding my Avy back to my home town Bhubaneswar & the feeling cant be any better..

                    Other bikes
A 2007 P-200,Bought for my cousin & he managed to Crash it & hes riding it now..(I didnt like it that much)

Bought my HH CBZ-xtreme in march 2007,

                          i bought this bike because

                          - was better than any other 150cc's of that time (P150, Apache 150, Unicorn)
                          - stable bike at high speeds
                          - looks (yeah i like my bike)
                          - uniqueness (its not that common)
A man's testosterone level is directly proportional to bhp that he's using on his motorcycle.

In the continution of quoted post.

I just got myself a Hero Honda Hunk, yes this down shift to a smaller capacity bike is a painful transition. But..

My budget was around 60k i was keen on picking a 150 cc bike, didnt like the pulsar just cant relate with this brand emotionally, RTR was a little beyond my budget, no kick start option of FZ 16 worked against it as my wife was not keen on picking any bike with no kick start, looks of unicorn is a bit too plain according to my taste.
So i was left we Hero Honda again, i liked the looks of Hunk & just got one.

Kinetic Honda, TVS Fiero F2, Yamaha R15

I was always crazy about bikes, ever since I learnt how to ride at the age of around 10. Wanted a Kinetic when I was in 10th for my morning tuitions, but Dad offered me a Sunny. I refused.
Was given a choice between a Kinetic (by going to a not so hep school) and the city's most hep school when I was joining 11th. Chose the school then, since I didn't really like my previous school.
Asked my Dad for a Kinetic in 11th when I was going to coaching classes, but he refused it as my grades were not good. Waited till I started off Degree. Finally the time came.

Kinetic Honda (2001): My first bike. Had a very major accident as a pillion 6 months prior to getting the bike, so Dad wanted to play it safe&we picked up a friend's 2 yr.old Kinetic Honda Campus Chill, which had done some 9K odd kms. Was happy coz it wasn't girlish like the Scooties. Remodelled it to look like the Y2K series ZX. Used it till the end of Degree (2004), with 43K odd kms.on the odo. Used to give good mileage&ran very smooth with no issues except lack of power with a pillion.

TVS Fiero F2 (2004): Always wanted a CBZ Classic. Production stopped when I was able to buy it! Didn't like Pulsar so settled for F2 instead. Disliked it for its commuterish position, heel&toe gear shift mechanism. Always compared it to the CBZ Classic&ended up feeling jealous. Failed to realize that someday I would be proud of its qualities. 5 years&46K kms.down the line I still have it coz it has something my R15 doesn't. Very low maintenance costs, superb pillion comfort, decent mileage&above all ease of use for commuting.

Yamaha R15 (2008): The sportbike bug bit me, and I wanted to start off with a beginner's sportbike. The bike really gives you a trailer of the R series feeling-seating position, technology et all. Would recommend it as an excellent learner's sportbike.
Waiting to upgrade to a 600 now.
                                Quench my thirst with gasoline!
