    FZ-16

I wanted to buy a bike, but was getting sick of the average desi bikes that looked virtually the same, but with different stickers and slightly modified shell.

But then this guy near my residence brought home a spankin' new Yellow FZ-S, and I was like... 'WOW!! Now that's what I call a bike." I fell in love with the huge tank, fat rear tyre and muffler, and a few days later, Presto! My very own Orange FZ!!!!

This was the perfect bike for me. Refreshingly new looks, superb handling, and the best bike for my preferred way of riding, i.e. cruising lazily at 55kmph (speed doesn't thrill me).

My first bike was Bajaj Platina-2006-2008. As my college was at a 18kms dist and i had to commute 36kms daily. I needed a bike which gave me ultra fine mileage. Had been given a choice between a Bajaj Platina and Pulsar 180Dtsi. Th new painted one when it was launched. Black mags and Black engine, Wolf headlamps. But rejected the pulsar as daily commuting wasnt possible. Did ride lots of bike till 2008. Really liked the cbz classic from the time whne it was launched. I did like the bottle green color. And the later on did managed to get my hands on cbz classic silver color. Second hand. It was accident prone and had lots of problems....And since then am fixing it till date....My advice DONT EVER BUY A SECOND HAND BIKE. But am in love with my bike. I did really like it. She is cool, No problems as far. These are the mods I have done to the engine.
        1. Piston rings, have been changed and I have put factory CBZ classic piston rings.
        2. Clutch plates were badly worn out, So replaced them yet with factory CBZ classic clutch plates.
        3. Polished the head and gasket assembly and shaved off 0.7mm(EXACTLY)
        4. Did a normal polish to exhaust outlet in the engine, and also the carburettor intake.
        5. Sealed the entire engine block with 3 bond rubber paste.
        6. Using Petronas Sprinta 4T Fully systnetic oil, 10W40 grade.
        7. Fixed an K&N airfilter in the airfilter box, and have removed the sponge material and from the airfilters box which covers the other side of the filter, I have removed it it to mainatin free flow of air to the k&n filter.
As she screams and goes past 180's. Its a definate feel of superiority. So to sum up I love my bike a lot. Well get her some cosmetic treatment very soon.

After riding P150 for 3 long years, needed something more powerful which can reach speeds around 100-120 easily.
Always kept an eye on P220. but, dint like silver alloys and engine.
Planned to take R15 But, felt overpriced when released.
1)later on reading comments on R15 about being less torquey in lower RPM put me off.
2)Very thin alloys again put me off as i usually dont slow down in humps or patholes. So, needed something strong which can bear my torture.

My P150 never broke down in these 3 years, so thought of taking pulsar again and My dad was also against Yamaha ( Yama in kannada means God of Death) so R15 finally ruled out.
even FZ16 came to my mind, but low fuel efficiency for 150 CC was a put off and the top end.

Finally, Got everything in P220-DTSi last week

Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki etc.are just the family names of people who started the company.
Trust me on this, it doesn't have any good or bad meaning. I read, write&speak Japanese&have been to Japan twice.

Thanks Sarvajit bro for clarifying. The name Yamaha does have a nice ring to it though! Ya know like YA MAHA. so COOL

i was using my suzuki samurai (still use it)..
got a bike as an incentive for doing well in my 12th boards...
                    i had a choice of r15 and p220 dtsFI...
                    1)felt the r15 was a bit overpriced.
2)it lacked the required torque on lower rpm- which is what i had required for city traffic.
                    3)liked the power of p220dtsfi..
so picked up a p220 dtsFI on 02 march 09.
                    pulsar 220 dts-fi clocks 145kmph!

                    • my first 2 wheeler was an Aviator, finally persuaded my sister to take it and i got the FZS!
the reason i got a FZS was simply because of its breath taking looks..i have not seen so many heads turn towards a 150cc bike so far!
its a great performer too,yes there are alternative choices with slightly superior performance but for my need which is commuting in traffic mainly, this is a perfect bike for me.

                      • Well my starvation for a good bike is going to last a bit longer. As far as i can remember i had :-
A TVS 50 when i was in 10th which i used to ride it for tutions and school in the hot Rajasthan summer. The accelerator wire used to break every fortnight .
My dad had a Vijay Super , it was my first geared ride(rode it only for 1 hr :...wow it was fun to ride that blue lambretta scooter.
Came to pune in 12th got a red tvs scooty pep
During my second year of engineering got a ( my god am i a TVS fan ? no i am not ) TVS star city dlx coz i thought i would get a P150 but got Star...
ahh my dads transfer to bagdogra(siliguri) in third year ohh no !! now what ? for my mums sake had to sacrifice my star city and bought a second hand Activa.
Now after roaming too much around with that activa i am getting super bored bcoz of my liking for bikes.I had been to the castrol power hunt in pune where my eyes, soul, heart, mind, everthing was glued to a Royal enfield TBTS .((( puling off 12 ..8's(thingy done during licence test) in 2 minutes in a Machismo .. god ohh god ohh god superb))) but eyes still remained fixed on the tbts.
Just for the sake of the fell of riding 1 i have test ridden it more than 20 times ( gosh in pune i could locate only 3 RE dealers they are bored of me now.. every time i go i give a fake mobile number for contact and come back )
dad has got retirement and the Base is pune ( hurray!! ) i am giving him hints to sell off his kinetic nova hehe . so that i can buy a RE TBTS

                          • I own Yamaha Gladiator 125 RS...

Wanted a bike that gives me everything, style, mileage, performance and also cost effective.

Well, I found "gladi". It has all and may be not to the 150cc list...

                            I am really happy.

                              • TVS Victor GLX 125

                                TVS Victor GLX 125
I have few reasons to go for this bike
Having shared my father's CD 100 SS for 5 years,I decided to go for Splendor+ and one day I got it.
But In came to know in few days that this bike is not fit for me.I am around 6 feets and travel 50 kms daily from home to office and back. Also few weekend tours of 100-150 kms.
This bike used to die after speed of 50 if I had a pillon rider and never used to cross 70 kmph even if I ride single with full throttle.I always felt that the its engine used to shut off after speed of 50.very jerky after speed of 50.
Also Mileage it gave me around 50 kmpl with servicing from HH authorized centers only.
I decided to sell this bike and go for 125 or 150 cc bike
Super splendor/Glamor: I rejected because I was not satisfied with power. These bikes have good low end torque means good pulling power at low rpm.
So say if I am climbing a slope in 4th gear and rpm drops, yet this bike will be able to pull. But the drawback is like say after speed of 60 kmph or on higher rpm,if I race accelerator and try to overtake a vehicle,it is very difficult.
Super splendor and Glamor are as good as utility pickup vehicles like Mahindra Maxx pickup/Bolero etc. Also it didnt suited my height of 6 feets.

Discover 125 and 135:I rejected because after speed of 60 it had vibrations.I felt as if I am riding on a floor mill(Aata Chakki). Also its headlight focus was not good.I can see wider but not longer than 20 meters.I needed this since coming from office to home,I travel in areas where there are no lights for 10 kms and bad roads.

Gladiator:I liked the smoothness of this bike and was my first choice but in 2005-2006,Yamaha had closed their showrooms in Pune due to poor sales.Hence I was not able to get it.

Honda Shine:Good bike but its rear tyres of 2.75 inches.Balancing at higher speeds would be a big problem.

Suzuki Zeus and Heat: Powerless bikes and same like Glamor and Super splendor.Their performance was just better than the Star city
Apache 150:Was good enough but Its height was very less and didnt suit for long travel.
I also thought of Pulsar,CBZ and UNI but I felt that instead of going for 150 cc bikes why not Bullet? because thunderbird and electra also gives mileage around 40.
                                This was the background.
And from here my story started.
One day I rode my friend's TVS Victor GLX and found that this bike suits my requirements like Gladiator though it lacks power of gladiator and Shine.
It is best suited for persons of 6 feet and above height.
Hence I dropped my Idea of buying a bullet.
But the main problem. This bike was out of production and was not available in Pune. The TVS guys were telling me to go for a Apache and I refused.I only insisted on GLX for 2 months and finally they talked to the company in Chennai and managed to get a GLX for me in 4000 rupees less than the original price.
And I say that I made a good decission in purchasing this bike.
in 3 years,I have clocked 50000 kms, achieved speed of 100 kmph without any problem, very good headlight beam that I dare to travel during nights in hilly and forest areas also without any problem.
In travelling comfort,I feel this bike as good as a bullet.I have travelled right from Daman-Vapi-Alibag-Goa costal trip wherein I used to travel 250 kms a day.
Also half of Maharastra spanned by me on this bike.No ghat in Sahyadris which I havent crossed on this bike.
I get Mileage of 65 even if I have rear tyre of 3.5 inch(0.25 inch fatter than bullet tyre)
though it is a 125 cc bike,I feel comfortable travelling it at speed of 70-80 kms per hour on highways for long distances.
And about maintainence,Less hole burnt in pockets.
I just change oil after 5000 kms(Castrol Power1) and do carburettor and air filter cleaning and oiling a drive chain all this in 50 rupees from any mechanic.
Only spent 1000 rupees on fitting 55/60 watts bulb(though it was needed since it is a TVS bike which have trademark best beam focus) and 1300 rupees for rear tyre till now.
But yes after 3 years more around year 2012-2013 I wish to buy a bike of 250 cc and I wish that it must be from TVS/Yamaha only(if they manufacture it) Or else I will prefer Bullet next
