Bought this after 7 months of getting my first job. After some mighty libran indecision between the R15, Zma, P220, TBTS and the Bullet family, I settled for the LB500. I wanted a big fast bike that I could ride into the sunset. Obviously that throws pulsar outta the window. R15 was way too revvy and plasticky for my liking. The Zma was rejected cos I somehow didn't seem to like it after a couple of hundred Ks on a friend's Zma. Great bike but somehow doesn't have the charm. Finally test rode the electra. Thumpy but too slow. Rode my SPMs tricked out LB500 on NICE road. Was hooked. Went and plonked cash. And rode off on my very own fast armchair on Jan 21st, 09. It's been a joyous 6400km since then and a constant learning experience each passing K.
Very Similar thoughts i share, but i wont say i didnt like the ZMA, rest all very similar...but i think i will settle for a TBTS only....

      Pulsar 180 UG3 2007 ...

wanted a noisy yet stock bike, with some real high revving ... P200 & P220 were not available, as it required Probiking showroom ...

Moreover, Apache RTR 180 was not released by then.

      So, settled for P180 ...

Next bike, maybe Ninja 250, R15 or KTM Duke ...

Bought Pulsar 150 version 3 (the first pulsar with alloys)

Initially I had idea of buying a splendour later my father told me, "this is not like you have bought mobile phone to change it frequently, buy one bike and use it for long" this is his words. so my idea changed to nothing less than the pulsar.

My father liked the unicorn but i don't. unicorn appeared very vague - only spoke wheels, skinny tyres, awkward graphics (in that time) while apache is also there but not the rtr. apache is plain jane so i settled for the pulsar 150.

While unicorn is like the previous hh and uncle 'riding stance' the pulsar attracted me with its compactness (compared to the unicorn pulsar is small), clean n zero graphics and sporty riding stance, bigger tyre, alloys

even today i luv my bike as it returns 58 - 60 kmpl without fail

          My bikes

Discover 135 DTSi (sold): It was my 1st bike. The Discover appealed to me on all fronts: was great looking, decent power, FE, comfortable riding posture, smooth engine, & within my budget.

YZF R15: I was completely floored by the looks of bike when I first saw it in the pics from last year's Auto Expo.. Then when I saw it in flesh somewhere around June last year, I was like .
But it had been only only months since I had bought the Discover, & R15 was too costly, so I decided to stay with my Discover.
About 1 year down the line, I chanced upon xBhp. Read the ownership experiences of R15 owners here & couldn't stop myslef. Heck, I felt the urge to upgarde urgently. Had saved enough money too in the last 1 year.. So sold my Discover & bought the R15..
& touch wood, its been a phenomenal 1600Kms so far on the R15..

calliber 115- it was my first bike ... clocked 30 k on it in gujarat with lots o abusing coz of the crappy roads and never ending monsoon..still i used to extract 70 out of it...but one day the day before we were sheduled to leave for AP ...my bike was stolen ..n had no clue how it had happened ..reperted to police waited...waited...waited for her...but she never returned to me i really miss u calli

pulsar 180 ug3 black- got shifted to AP ...lived 8 months here without any bike( u will never need a bike here ) but then atlast a bike was needed to commute to my college which is 20 k ...so i decided to go for p150 but then changed my mind coz ...it was very old since p150 was launched and it was common among the peiole...where ever u go u see p150 roaming around coz of its power and handling..so decided to go for p180 which was within in my range of budget ...it has got killer looks
very unique bike ...hardly seen on the road...i removed RTR from my list coz it felt very short for me( 6ft 1inch 80 kgs) ....removed HUNK and CBZ coz they were no different species... CBZX and HUNK RED was not lauunched and P180ug4 was not launched... if it had then i would have gone for p180 ug4...well iam happy with my bike ...really enjoying...
and u know what>?? my bike has got the same reg no as my late calli ..
            calli's soul combined in my p180 ..

I have owned many bikes, First came Luna when i was in 8th, K4100 when i was in 10th, RX 100, Crux R, Yezdi.

After 7 years of Crux R usage, i got a job in Ahemdabad (I live in Baroda), I knew i had to travel more than 800 Kms in a week as i would come down to baroda during weekends and need to travel more than 90 Kms daily in the city in Weekdays. I wanted some good bike as i would have to travel on Highway and there was no other good option than Yamaha YZF R15

I have owned this bike since past 3 months now and it has clocked more than 10K on speedo . She does 120+ like jam and traveling on highway is fun...

                How it all began!

My story is different from the rest of you guys. I have spent all my life in Saudi Arabia where there were no bikes and only cars. I used to rent ATV's and ride there. I learned driving at the age of 10 but I didn't know how to ride a bike.

Whenever I used to come to India, I used to crave about riding bikes. But no one would give me their bike. The first time I rode was when I was in 4th grade(I was just holding the handle and controlling the throttle). It was my uncle's LML Vespa. My first ride was when I was in 6th grade when I came for vacations to India and it was my uncle's kinetic honda. Rode it for about 4km. Was the happiest person on earth then. Next was the Chetak which I rode in 11th grade. The first bike which I rode was a Passion Plus when I was in 12th grade. I finally shifted to India in 2007 for my higher studies. Took my uncle's Activa while he was out of station. Rode it for 20km at speeds of 80-85kmph even when I didn't know how to ride a 2 wheeler properly. I was really passionate about riding bikes. I even tried stunting on my friend's chetak. Did a nice wheelie on it. Finally I got admission into college. Went to college by an auto for the first few days. But I got frustrated with the traffic and the time being wasted to commute.

So I decided that I would use my grandpa's chetak which was not in use for several years and had clocked only 4000km in 20 years. This is how the rider in me was born. At first, I was scared to take the scooter to college as I didn't know how to ride properly. But somehow I managed to do it. The day I took my scooter to college was another happy moment in my life. My college is 10km from my home and I covered this distance in 15mins. I learnt riding through the hard way, crashing several times and skidding in the rain, on oil and sand. I didn't even have a driving license nor I had the RC, insurance, pollution of the scooter. I didn't even bother to wear a helmet at that time. So had to pay a hefty sum whenever I was challaned. This was not all. I used to do speeds more than 60 while going to the college in the morning. On the way comes a flyover where I would do 80+ kmph daily and my max was 90kmph on that flyover. Due to this ripping my scooter returned a mileage of 20kmpl. I was really disappointed with the mileage.

Finally I decided that I want a bike as I have learned riding after covering some 11000 km on the scooter. But I was in a dilemma as to which bike should I choose. I just had two options in my mind either those high end bikes or the commuter. I didn't think about the 150cc bikes. The bikes on my list were Karizma or P220(for looks, performance) or Platina(for mileage). I thought over this for a long period of time and finally decided to buy the Platina. But no one supported my decision. My mom said me to go for a better bike and was ready to buy me the Karizma or the P220 but that would mean only riding from home to college and back. I was so addicted to riding that I chose to kill my desires for all those high end bikes and listen to what my heart says since I wished to do 100000km on my bike. I decided on the Platina as I wanted to make the most out of each and every liter of petrol. I knew that I wouldn't get permission for riding on the highways and had to manage the cost of petrol with my limited pocket money. This was the only way out. So finally after much persuading at home I bought my platina. It's been around 11 months riding it and I feel that I made the right decision. I have covered 27000km mostly by city rides and short highway rides. I had to quench my thirst by doing short rides as long rides are not allowed. I ride for 80-90 km daily. I'll buy a new bike as soon as I complete 100000 km on my bike. I plan to go for a superbike as I would start earning by that time. Till then I am gaining experience by munching miles.

Moeed, very interesting story there. Seems you have learned things the hardway. Somehow, I am not able to justify you buying Platina. You could have gone for 150cc which would be good on mileage as well as good for tours.

I understand your point bro. But the thing is there is no problem in buying those bikes. Even my mom was ready to buy me a zma or a 220, but that would mean, me sitting at home and only admiring my bike. Washing it four times a day and always thinking about riding it.

In short, I would get the bike of my choice but not the money for petrol which I use for touring. I like riding bikes at top speed. My bike returns 90 if ridden sanely and 50 when ripped. You can see the huge difference in the mileage figures. The way I ride a bike on highway, if I buy a zma or 220 it would return only 25-30kmpl which is very less for me. So I had to opt for this bike. If there is any bike which would offer more mileage than my bike(no matter if it costs even the triple the price of my bike), I would be the first person to buy it.

Here are some examples of my friends who chose to be the other way round.
They are the typical city riders who just commute from home to college and back.

My classmate bought a ZMA almost the same time I bought my bike. His odometer reading is 8000km and mine is 27000km. His top speed on his bike is 105kmph and mine is 110kmph on my bike. Do I need to say anything more?

Another friend of mine has an Apache RTR. While coming to college he would never cross 50 and my needle never goes below 60. I cover 10km in 10 minutes.

Another guy bought a P180 in august 2007. His odometer reading is 10000 km now.

Living all my life in KSA, I had a thirst for touring which could only be quenched by buying this bike.

@moeed: Nice to read your story. I also agree with Ravi-a 150cc bike would have better from the touring point of view. Maybe something like GS150R, the 6th gear would have been a bonus for touring. Moreover with the bigger engine, you would have not needed to rip it to reach that top speed of 100 or say 110. Same is the case with my R15-when I ride it between 80-110 on the highway, it gives me 48kmpl, but on ripping it more it goes down to 30s. City is never fluctuating though-it remains at 43kmpl. You have a great advantage on that front-you get 90kmpl in city, so you can even use those saved miles on the highway. But I still feel a bike like the GS, which would give around 55 in city&60 on highways would have suited you better.

                            My First Bike

                            I own a Pulsar 180 UGIII 2007 model.

I wanted a ride which had style and also power, Pulsar 180 was the only bike which had both. No other bike was VFM other than Pulsar 180 for me.
