Hunk
During my 12th i used to pester my mom and dad for bike. They both are doctors and used to advice me for hrs regarding safety issues in bike.
i wud put off my desire for bikes temporarily but after seeing a karizma on roads again those desires start killing me
.
i had many fights with my parents for a bike and well those were answered after 3yrs(2nd year in coll)...
my choices werent limited by my parents
had karizma,p220 in my mind..
pulsars- everybody has that...
Apache- im more than 6ft height
CBZ Xtreme-hate those looks
Karizma-heard spares were costly
P220- no service in Trichy
i rode one of friend's HUNK well i was more than attracted to that bike
got a black hunk on sptember 2008 and well after 2 crashes(1 major accident) have clocked 11300 Kms till now
HH bikes rock...
Seriously doctors(atleast my parents) have some villathanam(vengence) over bikes

Many Bikes from 1998 onwards.includes bullet std,Yamaha RX100,Suzuki Fiero(Brand new buy on 2002 used till 2008mid),Bullet Electra 4S(I miss it a lot!),HH CBZ and Now settled on My New Buy - Apache RTR180.I need a responsive bike and Mostly used in Town Riding or short trips of 40-50kms.Was seriously considering pulsar180 and Pulsar220 as well.Pulsar 220 was seriously too much asking price - 82500 OTR in Kerala! While at 71800,RTR180 is VFM.
But RTR180 is Fun to Ride.Last edited by prakash_mvpa; 10-15-2009, 03:01 AM.

Bullet- Well, this was the only big bike i could afford. It was a 2yr loan from dad. Still have the bike.
RD- Cause it was my childhood dream. Got addicted to the power and slowly started squeezing out more power from the engine. Still have the bike
Zma- needed a no nonsense bike which i just needed to fill up and ride. Wasnt too happy with the fact that people were fiddling with the rd in my office parking.
Criteria was a reliable tourer with good torque and headlamp. As i have had a 03 zma in the past, it was the only way to go!!85 RD350
98 900rr Fireblade
01 rx 135 5spd
05 zma
06 Baleno
09 SX4 vvt
Owned-69'G2, 82'STD350, CI535, 86'RD350, 03ZMA, 07ZMA etc

I bought my bike way back in June 2003 (damn, its been LONG)...
at that time, there were a total of four performance bikes in the country
CBZ, Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180 and the ZMA.
wanted something bigger than the 150 cc ones, and the ZMA at that time had recently been launched and was expensive as hell, so landed up with a Pulsar 180, and its been a good six+ years of owning it.Torque nut in the land of horsepower worshippers.

First bike.:-
learning to ride a bike dat too on a new pulsar was not recommended, but what the hell...i took my frnd's brand new pulsar 150 and learnt anyways...

but fell in love with it....had to buy it.So after tons of persuasion and lots of fights at home got a second hand pulsar 150...traveled for 2 years on the broken war horse....countless accidents and total abuse of the bike later...i finally sold it for 15k...
was looking out for something different this time around...the R15 didnt appeal to me...thin tyres were the biggest turn off...
apache had heard bad reviews from previous owners....
karizma naaaaaa......too costly...
it was down to fz16 and p220...my thoughts wer against the pulsar ...not another one...but the looks and the feel really pulled me....hadnt gotten a test ride on the fz as of yet...so was not sure on the pulsar till i had the td on both...
I am glad i waited...the first td was amazing...the wide handle bars...the pin point acceleration...the looks...the envious onlookers...man i loved it..
booked it immediately...
15 days what seemed like a millennium i became the proud owner of the fz16.....ever since then these 2000 odd kms have been a pleasure....sigpicGirls are like roads, more the curves, more the dangerous they are.
To ride or not to ride?? is a....
very very stupid question....

Of all the bikes you read in my siggy, i have sold only one, the first one i ever bought. A 88 model RX100, purchased restored from a company dealership in 2003, sleeved. Rode it for a good 6-8 months, and then sold it for the Bullet.
Here's the story how.
I was given a strict budget of 20k for my first bike, and i was told to buy a bike asap. Now i couldve gone the splendor passion way but then it wouldve never been me. So the only other hope i had was a RX100, for its sheer respect and image!!
So i got this RX for like 21k, and then after 8 months sold it back to the dealer for 18k. Did about 6500 kms on it.
The Unicorn was to be launched, and i had booked the first bike in Faridabad. But then one day roaming about in Delhi, i saw a bullet showroom, and me and my sister's husband ( he would be my bro-in-law, right? ) entered. He had kept a number of bikes in his heyday, ( namely, RD400 Daytona Special, NSR 250, suzuki gsx1100-katana, yes!!! , and the regular RX100, AX100 and RD350). He used to race also. So he put the keeda of bikes in me.
Tempted me to take the Thunderbird off the main stand, I did so, and then asked me to put it back, and so i was able to do so. Then he asked me to lean the bike to one side and lift it up, and i was able to do so.
So the booking went out the window, and i started scouting the second hand market. The unicorn was for 60k or so, so that was the window that i was looking at.
Then i got my hands on a 9 month old, run for only 2400 kms Silver Thunderbird, that i got for 55k. The previous owner had managed to break his leg when the bike fell with him, and just wanted to get rid of it. With two minor nicks , one on the handlebar weight, and other on the saree guard, i bought the bike, and its been 6 years of endless riding her!!!
- 1971 Jawa 250 - The single cylinder twin exhaust always intrigued me. Also the low end grunt of this machine was amazing, when i got to know on a friends bike. I started searching online, and found that the Jawa had a cult following of its own. And my search began for one. And the funniest thing is, i found this bike in the lane next to the lane that i live in, in faridabad. A 55 year old owner, his first bike ever. The bike started in a few mins after putting fuel and oil in it. I rode it, and was hooked.
After that i did a couple of rides on it, maxed it to about 90-95 kmph also, and then my process to restore and rebuild the bike started.
So i traced a couple of dealers in Rajasthan, and one day with a couple of friends, took my car and drove down to Udaipur, and Kota and chittor and where not, just to source as many parts and components as i could for the bike.
So with a car full of spares for nearly 2 complete bikes, i came back. The jawa has been at a mechanics workshop in Delhi, who specializes in restoration work for old cars and bikes. He does most of the old vehicles in our friend circle and i trust him fully to give me a fully satisfied job on the jawa. The problem with such mechanics is that they are finicky and like to work at their own pace, and will keep redoing one thing till they are not satisfied, forget customer satisfaction!!!
-2003 yamaha RXZ 5 speed - The RXZ was the first bike i learnt riding on, way back in 96-97 on a cousin's maroon 4 speed RXZ. What can i say, first wheelie, first skid, first accident, first date and girl behind me.. everything was on the RXZ. And the 5 speed model was a limited run vehicle, so that made it even more desirable. I searched online in vain to try and soup and mod it for higher, but realised the Indian RXZ is vastly different from the foreign one. But this bike has a special place in my heart, so finally two months back i was able to get my hands on a fantastic condition model, pics of which most of you mustve seen.
This bike will be undergoing a rebuild end of this month from the 20th to the 30th. Have taken 10 days off from work specially for this. Right now only the visuals and suspension and chassis and electricals will be restored, and then maybe around next year when i have the money, the engine will be rebuilt. Its running stock, no sleeve no oversize, And the engine condition is great. So the bike can actually do without the engine work too.
-2009 R15 - This bike was bought on a whim in a single day. I had been following reviews and market response to this bike since its launch. And then one day decided to test ride it and see how it feels. The 150 cc response was too good to be missed, and i needed a fast bike to get to work and back ( doing the gurgaon expressway most of the way ). And the ninja was no where in sight. More over with this bike being 1.5 lakhs cheaper, it was the best bike at the moment , and in feb 09, i bought it.
And last but not the least, the ninja 250 that i got yesterday.. what can i say??? lol!!
My offerings to the gods of speed -
- KTM Duke 200
- Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

this is my last year in engineering,i demanded a bike from dad when i ws in 2nd year.
my college is 30kms far from my place(kalyan) ,in panvel (MGM CET).
n had to travel by ST bus.
to ease my life i asked for a bike, then dad told me to wait for 6 months iws happy, okk jst 6 months..thn after tht share markets crashed...due to which i dint asked for my bike..bla bla bla
during diwali 2009 it ws d date i booked my bike Pulsar 220 dtsi...
i chose that cz
1.at Rs.79670/- i feel it is d best bike available(best in performance)
2. I'm a die hard fan of P220 headlights..
3. n from top to down front to rear tht bike has nothing unsatisfactory...everything is razor perfect.(ZMR has rear wheel n chain cover plus lack of performance issues)
4. Black 220dtsi "uski toh baat hi kuch aur hai"...it completes whole pulsar base design.
5. and if one considers low milege then, now a days bike(fz,apache) have jst 5-7kms plus than my p220...toh abh 5-7 kms k liye cudn sacrifice my dream bike!!

My first riding experience came from my father's old [28 yrs] LML Vespa ...
At the age of 19 yrs I didn't know any thing about biking and there technology..
I started earning and promised my self to save as much as I can to buy a bike..
nearly after 3 months I saved enough for the down payment to be made which was in the minimum category..
Now after my cash was ready I was fan of Pulsar as I grew seeing them all around...I was with my friends near MG road and saw the new model of Apache RTR just released..went in and garbed the catalog..hmmm...160cc
10 more than 150..then must be giving more power...went next day and brought it...
but after I realized it was more then the 10cc which it has
...I learned crouching, cornering, braking (never used disc earlier), counter steering and what not..and BIG THANKS to XBHP and it's member who helped me being literate about bikes..
My life in two wheels !

Nice thread, I enjoyed reading everyone's story.
My first ever geared motor ride was on my friends HH CD Joy when I was in 9th standard. Till then I had ridden only my grandpa's TVS champ and a certain gearless scoot. I had to have a geared motorcycle. But 9th is too early. My parents said wait till you're 18. Obviously they were right, I didn't argue.
My first year of intermediate, I travelled 14kms (up n down) to my college by bicycle (I had a hercules Top Gear 5 gears) everyday for half a year before I started going by RTC bus. Everytime I put my cycle in the parking I used to see all the dudes of the college coming in on their Pulsars, Pulsar dtsi was just released and I loved that bike. I used to think... "Someday... ppl will watch me and feel jealous." Had to switch college after 1st year because the first one was a waste of time, not teaching for the right entrances.
Inter 2nd year I had to change 2 RTC buses morning and night to go to the new college but they taught me well, I got a seat in a really good college.
Now my parent's couldn't refuse me a bike. I had worked hard. So, after my intermediate + entrance results, I was gifted a Hero Honda Passion plus. I loved it, still do. Irony was that my college was in Rajasthan so I could only ride my bike when I came home for summer and winter vacation. But I used to dream about riding her quite a lot. I loved the freedom.
In my 4th year, when I was walking in my campus at 1 AM, I was suddenly confronted by a twin headlight coming towards me quite fast. Moved aside, only caught a glimpse of blue. Didn't know what the hell it was, but was sure it wasnt an SBK from the sound, but sure looked like an awesome mod job! It was an R15, that's the first time I saw it. Wasn't in touch with the biking world at all, didn't know what was released etc.
Came back to Hyderabad for my 4th year 2nd semester, for the final project at a local institute. I wanted to buy a new bike because even though I loved my passion +, it had its limitations. I wanted more out of my rides. So all through the start of 2009 till July I was researching options. (all the while hoping for a good job after my project). Had a test ride of ZMA from a friend, Pulsar 180 too. They felt good after my commuter riding on passion. But I wanted to check everything out. Praise be to the heavens that a certain friend of a friend bought an R15, and I had a chance to ride it properly. Till then I only thought it was all looks, plastic, 150cc wat crap is that?! (Yes, I was very ignorant) One ride is all it took. I literally had tears in my eyes giving that bike back to the guy. I HAD TO HAVE IT. Never had I experienced the sheer JOY (absolutely nothing but JOY) of riding such a bike. Threw away all other options and zeroed in on R15. Joined xBhp, for getting more info about the R15, from the ownership experiences. Started working, and by God's grace, I was in a position to buy a bike in a few months from July 2009. Thanks to my parents who chipped in for me to get it a bit early (I love interest free loans
) and I got my darling - Yamaha YZF R15 Impact Yellow on 26th August 2009.
I have clocked 6007 kms till date, third service was done yesterday, and the unthinkable happened. It actually got even better to ride, I couldn't believe it. Nothing else comes close, for me. Who cares about the small tires? I got the answer - Those blokes who have no idea what just shot past them, and only get a look at the back of my bike. For me? The bike just EXCELS at everything, there is NO compromise. Those who ride this baby know what I'm talking about.
