Don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this, guess as it's related am posting here. . . Can you tell me what's a good camera to start off with for photography. . ? Like some point and shoot cameras which are less expensive as well, am going to buy a new cellphone soon as well, so don't want to spend more for this camera. . . I did do some research and found that Canon Digital IXUS 510 HS is a good entry level camera or else any others like nikon coolpix or from sony, . ? Now my main queries are,
1. Is it okay to start off with these and take good clicks. . ?
2. I think it shouldn't be a problem to carry around as they are small, also will the battery back up be good. . ?
3. As I said earlier please tell me something around 10k or less than that would be better, cos already going to spend 18-19k for a mobile, don't want to do more. . .
4. Do you think I am right in the above, like is there any other alternatives like should I buy a less expensive phone and get a better camera, seriously not in my list but still . . ?

Me no expert but if I can add my two cents over here, I would suggest since you are willing to spend 10k on the camera put another 1k and go for the nikon L820.

No doubt the IXUS 510 is a great piece of equipment but as you get accustomed to it and photography in general you shall find it to be a little underwhelming, you shall hope for things that it won't be capable of, hence I suggested the L820 as it is cost effective and will prove to be a great companion till you upgrade to a DSLR.

Just my opinion, wait for what others have to say

IMO consider Nikon and Canon for DSLR category only, for P&S or Bridge category look into Panasonic and Sony. You wont be disappointed. In Sony don't touch the Sony G-Lens crap!

If you are choosing between a mobile camera and a p&s. Let me tell you no matter how many mega pixel you get in mobile, it will be of no use if they dont put a good sensor in it. MP is only useful while printing out the pics and believe me for A3 size print 8MP is enough. All the apps/edits that one gets with mobile camera are just marketing gimmick. There is no substitute for "real camera"

Now coming to you choice, in entry level stick to Nikon/Canon/Sony...anything that has got high ISO limit and little bit of more optical zoom, but again that optical zoom would add grains when used to the maximum level and if you are into video, Full HD/HD video recording.

Every cam now comes with Li-Ion battery so you are safe for atleast 400-500clicks

For low light see the max aperture value (f stop) in the specs. In your price range most of the cams would have ~f3.3. Ofcourse for low light shooting you would need a tripod or some stable support or if you bump up the iso then shutter speed would become manageable but noise would increase. Gain some lose some..
Dont expect too much from cams in this price bracket.

and buying online would pose no problem as such but it would be good to handle the camera in hands before buying.

For the starting price bracket I would still suggest the nikon L820 as I have used one extensively and I found it to be quite flexible on manual. If you go higher on the price take g K's advice the sony bridge camera are really good.

Coming to low light, invest in good tripod, try making your own remote shutter release and leave your worries, atleast for the basic stuff (forget star trails on a PnS)

Have a look at the product in real play around with it and then if you get a better price online go ahead and order it from there. I recently ordered my new DSLR from Snapdeal as they had some offer going on. No issues whatsoever with delivery & handling

P.S - Expert opinion would be provided by them only. Here's my experience:

Buy what matters you more! You need a phone, get that first. Don't compromise with either!
I still shoot with a P&S! Sony DSC HX100V.

Buying a 10k phone is enough IMO, giving you 15k for a decent P&S, but if later you feel bad about the phone then the whole exercise is pointless.
Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!
