Yes and No. Depending on from where and what all you get it done.
I am owner of 2009 D135 with close to 1 lakh kms, have done full rebuild twice, once from Authorized dealer and another time from local reputed garage.

If you are rebuilding only the head or cylinder kit separately, don't expect any improvement in fuel efficiency or power.

Fuel efficiency and engine power will be like brand new only when you get the full engine rebuild, head, valves, cams, piston cylinder, crank rod, clutch plates and carburetor. All would come upto 11-12K done at Authorized dealer with original parts.

Suggest you get full rebuild only, and not rebuild each part at a time separately, also get it done at official dealer only inspite of costing 3K extra. Also, 6K only for head rebuild is toooo much.

          Discover DTSi 125cc

the mechanic has informed me that i should get re-build the engine of my 13 years old motorcycle. In coming months, i will also need to replace the front and rear tyres, and the shock absorbers as well.

considering the total cost, should i go with a re-build, or replace my motorcycle?

(the new version of Discover 125 has a tachometer and a digital display.)

So my Darling Discover 135 DTSi Sports was having issues with starting, there was no current supply to the plugs or the HT coil but battery and startor motor was fine.

Had the bike pushed to my trusted service center, on doing a full electrical diagnosis the Magneto coil had finally given-up(after being used for so many years and thousands of kms, this was still stock one that came from the factory).

Found the replacement part, only 1 unit was available in my entire city(Part No. DS111049). Replaced with the new coil and she was happy and running again like before.
While I was at it, I also got the preventive repairs done, got the existing valves lapped and adjusted, valve oil seals changed, new timing chain, new clutch assembly and new spark plugs. Cylinder, Piston and Crank was all fine and strong.

My mechanic has given me free next service as a good will gesture to re-adjust the valves once I do the break-in period again.

Pic of the old failed Magneto coil.
