the nut is close to the end because they are new brake shoes with their full friction material intact. perfectly normal. as they wear and you adjust the brakes the nut will move further inward (that nut is used to adjust the brake)
do u notice the pointed arrow tab/marking ^ .. as the brakes wear and u adjust the nut (goes inward) the arrow will move towards the marking on the case, and is an indication of ideal brake shoe wear limit.



so that doesn't bother me as long as i enjoy it. It's reliability, i have no clue as i haven't come across many of these.. just had a test ride a long time ago.
