Well I got the starting issue resolved. Called up the Authorized service center and they sent mechanics over. It turned out that the spark plug had black oil deposits because of which it was not providing any spark. They replaced the spark plug and it started after 3-5 kicks. The battery had drained down completely and the mechanics said that for the next few days please do not do a cold start using the electric starter but use the kick. When I asked them that why the black oil was deposited on the spark plug they said that it is normal and happens frequently. So now I doing cold start using the kick. The total cost was about Rs 300-350. Rs 200 for the visit and the rest for the spark plug. The Honda Service center guys had told me that if they could not fix the scooter at my place and they had to take it back to the service center they will charge me extra. That seemed fair, but they were not able to give me an approximate value of this cost.

If the scooter has not started or running for 4 hours or more then I consider the starting of the scooter as cold start. Maybe the experts and give us a suggestion on what do they consider cold start or what is the definition or rule of thumb that they use.

I am going to go the Honda authorized service center for the periodic service of the scooter and going to ask them on why is the oil getting deposited on the spark plug and to please repair it.

One observation which I had and maybe it will help others too, if you do a cold start of your activa scooter, then you accelerate or give throttle it while it is still on the stand and the engine cuts off immediately as soon as the accelerator handle is twisted then please have a look at the spark plug. Check whether the spark plug is working or is there any black oil deposit around it.

get the carb opened and cleaned.
the clearances need to be adjusted when the piston is at the tdc of compression stroke.
It's the 110cc model before the G nomenclature.

Carb opened, everything cleaned. Have set the valve clearance correctly.

Are the clearance values correct? I've seen 0.12-0.14mm mentioned somewhere.

2 weeks, normally shouldn't be happening. I've kept my dio idle for a couple of weeks at times and never had starting issues. Only time was when it was left unused for 7 months, had to drain old fuel and clean carb and it fired up in a click. this was a 10yr old dio that had done 70k +km but regularly well maintained.

Add fresh fuel and try. Or might require a carb clean or drain old fuel from carb at the most. Don't use the starter too much or you might drain the battery.
Without knowing the state or maintenance of the scoot cant say much further.

reboring or new bore, a lot also depends on the quality of work done. i've seen activa's , splendors with a rebore running fine for quiet long time.

just replacing a bore might not fix a particular issue unless you understand what the issue is first. sometimes a bottom end rebuild is also required, i.e the crankcase overhaul with new bearings and crank 'reconditioning' if required.
it's impossible for me to tell what that 'little noise' is without hearing it. it could be from the drive components i.e. clutch/belt etc..

did you rebore and put in a new piston (oversize) or did you just remove the old piston and put in a new std size piston+rings ? Any smoke from the exhaust ?

    3g/4g/5g same S
it is one of the best scooters around.
mileage depends on where and how it is ridden. with normal riding around in city traffic it should return anywhere between 42-47kmpl approx.
if it's used only for short distances like say daily running around for groceries for 1-2km or ridden 'fast' (whacking open throttle frequently to accelerate/get off the line quickly), then expect the mileage to drop a bit.
don't compare a commuter motorcycles fuel efficiency figures with a automatic scooter.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator

Hello guys planning to upgrade to scooter from Honda Twister,

Stuck b/w Grazia and NTorq, please help

My dad's also gonna use it, as I am gonna buy dominar soon...

    Main requirements:

    1.Good performance

Good handling and brakes, zero (minor) vibrations.

    1.Good mileage(atleast 40+)

my Twister is 7 years old and still gives 45+ always, funny thing is chain sprocket and clutch plates have gone long back...yet it delivers!!

    Great reliability and service.

Honda is also reliable but their service is shit...that's the only thing that's stopping me to buy another Honda.

I have wrote 3 complaints since last year because of their pathetic service, and they ****ing don't care.

    Please help me decide,*

    Thanks

stay away from fiber body scooters especially if its going to be ridden rashly/over bad roads/carrying load. the screws might not loosen over time, but the panel themselves might snap at the screw joints or worse a fall will easily damage them.
replacing panels is easy, but what about the cost of the panels ? Check the cost of the panels before investing in a fiber body scoot. If you find the cost of panels reasonable now, better get a set and keep as spare.

I own a dio from the past 11 yrs, and price of the body panel kit that used to be around Rs.2000 shot up to around Rs.12k in 2013 and still continues to sell for around that price for the old model dio. Unfortunately my dio did suffer body damage due a couple of falls and some idiots and i have used some duct tape and cycle lock 'pattis' to hold them in their place ! The engine though is a gem.

Please suggest some good upgrade. I have seen Phillips Blue Vision bulb in my friend's Activa 125 and it wasn't much of a difference from the stock one. Kindly suggest me a good bulb for night riding.
