Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
anyone here rode aviator & activa back to back? the showrooms aren't giving aviator for TD, is it ok for a footer like me?
how much mileage can I expect out of the aviator? also, saw the activa 125, it's more or less same like aviator except shorter seat height, how's the suspension? I found activa to be a bit too hard..
also, how are the headlights?? are they bright enough to light up the street?? I've seen activas and unicorns have the most pathetic headlight setup, the light beams somewhere upwards in the air.. only blindens the opposite rider... doesn't actually lightup where required..Last edited by Ajay Vishwanath; 09-20-2017, 11:23 PM.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
I guess honda used it to keep the cost down and they will keep using it until their sale figures fallOriginally posted by zikzak View PostThank you for the reply.
I find the suspension very stiff and it gives no response while riding in bad patch.
Telescopic would have been better i guess.
Do check the front tire pressure, sometimes the local mechanic shops over inflate the tires, the recommended pressure will be mentioned on the scoot itself or in the owners manual, stick to it

Re: Honda Activa cold start problem
Thanks for the suggestions,I just bought new set of air filters and spark plugs. I'll definitely try these and update by this weekendOriginally posted by neeljinwala View Post- Clean Spark Plug

If you are comfortable operating on your mechanicals of your vehicle, you should do it yourself (apart from tappets adjustment)

You are the right judge to analyse the situation.
1) BATTERY: As you have installed a new battery , it is ruled out.
2) Not Sure if Clutch got a good role while starting?
3) CHOKE lever: Is your choke cable working normal?
4) Is this scoot miss firing?
Try these areas...
1) Spark Plug : Try removing spark plug and check its condition, clean it if required and find for adequate electrode gap, if not adjust it and look for consistent spark.
2) Air filter : Inspect, replace if heavily clogged.
3) Carb Setting : Set it to Ideal AIR FLOW mixture ratio and set the IDLE screw at a little higher RPM.( to avoid stopping at traffic signals)
4) Loose Connections: inspect for any loose contacts , esp ignition side.
Worse case would be , valve Timing/seating would have gone for a toss. ( can rule this out as your's is very less ridden.)

Thank you for the reply.Originally posted by sarinsari92 View PostThat would be the old age "trailing link or trailing arm" suspension, they sort of faded away with the development of telescopic suspension mostly because telescopic system is much better at absorbing the shocks, but trailing link has its own advantages like,it avoids nose-dives while breaking especially on two wheeler s,which in turn enhances stability while breaking and cornering and it is cheaper to maintain
btw,it is one of the reason as to why the dio is so much fun to ride,it gives that anti-diving feature
You can get more info about the suspension on wikipedia

What is the type of suspension does the Dio have at the front?
And what is the difference between telescopic suspension and this.
I ride a Dio and when i apply front brake, it kinda feel like pushing up rather than pushing down which happens in telescopic suspensions.

I have installed new battery as per the advice of local mechanic but no improvement so far.
I also tried starting with choke on, got clutch overall servicing done ,but it's not helping.
Guys it's causing lot of trouble for my aged dad to start it when I'm not around.can somebody please guide me how to fix it.Thanks in advance.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Hello,
I finally got time to take the price quote on showroom for Activa 125 and Aviator.
Price quote taken for Disc brake variant of both bikes. I think if I'm choosing Activa 125, I'll go for Drum Variant itself!! (Budget reasons)
[Thought of wrapping up within 78k but 78k without accessories is expensive, I had checked in some websites and it showed 74-75K OTR !!]
Will Drum+Alloy make a lot of difference w.r.t Drum variant?
Also regarding the Honda Exchange, Those guys said they'll pay 19K for my Honda Twister.
It's a 2011 STD Drum brake Variant, clocked 28K kms recently. I don't think it's a good deal! (Right??)
Should I check out Jupiter or Access 125?, Also I'll ask how much they'll be willing to pay under exchange!

(Apologies for the orientation)

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
You can swap the 10"alloy wheels, but do check if the break drum size is the sameOriginally posted by Maddy79 View PostYes, Height increase is noticeable from sides...with stock setup there isn't much gap between silences and body , but with this mod , Gap is evident..And this is when it is parked(with out any load) on side stand only. This gap isn't noticeable once it is driven.
Ya...I too meant that will get used to it..
Good to hear...No oil Leak.
BTW....any idea if Hero Duet's front telescopic suspension is a match for Activa/Dio.
As I see that Duet is the only scoot with 10" wheel and Telescopic setup.
Also saw Hero Pleasure with black alloys 10" (front & rear) , they look cool.
Telescopic suspension may not be a good idea,as modifications to forks/handlebar is likely to cause serious handling issues and I am not even sure if its a straight fit.I also had this idea to swap with yamaha ray's (10"wheel) telescopic suspension, did a little research, turned out that it was not a clean swap, mechanic said the cone sets won't match.Last edited by sarinsari92; 09-08-2017, 10:23 AM.

Height increase won't fade away, may be a little but you will get used to it after some riding.
no oil leak btw
,no grime, its been a few days after I wiped it clean.

Is the height increase noticeable from outside, does it affect the looks of the activa or blend in beautifullyOriginally posted by Maddy79 View PostUpdate after fixing this shock absorber.
Fixed it and found the initial impression similar to "Sarinsari92"post.
1. Increase in height ~20mm/2cm/1inch.
2. No issues with stability or breaking.
3. Single Gas filled shock absorber is not equivalent to dual shock setup in Motorcycle.
Increase in Seating height might fade away after getting used to it riding few hundred kms.
Far better than stock setup and very easy and useful modification for those who have issues with stiffer current setup of Activa/Dio.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
They actually don't protect anything. Rather do more harm than good like causing rust spots and bending metal at the point where they get bolted on.Originally posted by xeo View PostEven I hate those grim looking guards, but my sister will also ride the same scooter!!
(she's still in learning phase)
So definetly my dad will insist on installing them...
I'm planning to buy all accessories from local garage itself, would that be a problem?
I'll see if any offers will be announced for Dusshera !!

As for accessories, remember with Honda, even the number plates and side stand are accessories.. Yeh you can ask them to exclude the guards and you can get the same from local shops.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator
Considering Aviator, I live near Electronic City, Bengaluru..my riding will be more highway and minimal traffic..Originally posted by s1d View PostThen Aviator would be a good choice. I personally don't see a reason to spend extra on the 125. For regular city use there wouldn't be much of a difference between either one. I've ridden my 2007 Dio on highways (300km round trips) and for a scooter it has enough juice/refinement/economy to see you thru your long trips if any.
Do get a test ride and pick up one that you prefer. And do yourself a favor and don't get those 'crash guards'
installed.
Everyone I asked are saying no to Aviator just because it's a 2 year old scooter with no updates. But it's a tested engine, offers everything that Activa 125 has to offer except the power, 2L larger boot space!
I'm yet to take a test ride of both vehicles, I'll decide soon on which to buy based on the ride quality.
