Do get a test ride and pick up one that you prefer. And do yourself a favor and don't get those 'crash guards' installed.
Even I hate those grim looking guards, but my sister will also ride the same scooter!!
    (she's still in learning phase)

So definetly my dad will insist on installing them...

I'm planning to buy all accessories from local garage itself, would that be a problem?

I'll see if any offers will be announced for Dusshera !!

My heart says Activa 125 but mind is revolving around Aviator (Mileage and Price)
After all the accessories and taxes Activa 125 and Aviator has 4.5K-5K difference.
So I am planning to take a test ride and finalize my decision.

the price difference is for a 15cc increase, roughly 1hp,its not that much of a difference but activa 125 has a higher top end speed but low and mid range performance is likely the same on both models.Mileage also is the same on both models as the Honda HET engine will give 45-50kmpl,under normal riding.

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator

    Hello

I took a test ride of Honda Activa 4G bought recently by my friend. He bought it around 2 months back.

    My observations:

Engine is very smooth, I think it will drive excellent till it hits 75+kmph mark.

Build quality is good, I am wondering why they covered the 2 spaces in front, they couldn't have made a space for DRL'S or extra lighting.
    (maybe cost cutting plans)

The pickup isn't that great, I could experience the lag w.r.t acceleration.

Suspension was a bit stiff in rear but the front suspension is bad, the major bummer I experienced in my test ride.

And he said everything that's secondary to the bike is an accessory starting from side stand🙄🙄.( For all Honda Scooters😕)
Honda is using it's record sales as an opportunity 😈😈

Coming to fuel efficiency, he is getting 45-50kmpl ( more highway and less traffic conditions)

I will take a test ride of Activa 125 and Aviator in few days,
Hands down on Activa 4G for now!

    Plus the sales figures!!

My current option is Activa 125.

    Questions:

Which has the best ride quality (suspension, brakes and power delivery)?

Which has the best fuel efficiency?

Finally, Which bike do u recommend?

Do I need to look into any other scooters...?

(Jupiter has questionable build quality, service and parts problem in Access 125, Yamaha scooters have lesser fuel efficiency figures compared to others!
    Pick up the activa 4g.

The ride quality will definitely increase and it will change the entire look of the scoot which will make it a cop magnet, also you will loose the anti-diving mechanism of the stock forks and you might have to change the front mudguard as well, also handling issues(not sure)can occur.
The total cost of the mod will depend on the type of parts you buy(new/used) if you buy all brand new parts, its will cost around 5k,if you are adding disc brakes it can go up to 8k.If you buy all used parts you can get it done under 4k.

I'd say go with activa 125,comfortable,reliable and offers decent mileage as well.
In normal riding conditions honda claims 60kmpl but in reality you can expect a mileage of around 45 in the city and 50 on highways, same goes for all honda scoots.

Even i never had that noiseon my aviator. Mine has run 23k kms with a belt change at 18k kms. No whistle noise. I have ridden activas and dios with thay sound but never a another aviator.

    Hi Sarinsari92,

Is this what you had bought/fixed for your Dio.
I inquired few mechanics at TVS service center for Jupiter rear shockabsorber and every one said "Wego and Jupiter" share same part number/Shockabsorber.

Will be fixing this in couple of days.

Update after fixing this shock absorber.

Fixed it and found the initial impression similar to "Sarinsari92"post.

    1. Increase in height ~20mm/2cm/1inch.
    2. No issues with stability or breaking.
    3. Single Gas filled shock absorber is not equivalent to dual shock setup in Motorcycle.

Increase in Seating height might fade away after getting used to it riding few hundred kms.
Far better than stock setup and very easy and useful modification for those who have issues with stiffer current setup of Activa/Dio.

Is your shock absorber leaking oil?

2 or 3 cms is close to an inch and that's a good difference in length for such modification.

Please post your long term report once you have done good riding/kms with this suspension setup.

Can you tell the PART number for this shock absorber.
thanks for pointing it out,I checked it there was just mud,no sign of oil, wiped it clean to double check,I definitely hope its not an oil leak
Yes,its a bit taller than the stock suspension but the only thing affected is the seat height,no issues in handling or anything.
So far I have clocked around 200km with the new suspension,I will post again after clocking some more km.
I don't know the part number, other TVS scooters does not have this suspension set up,I think only Jupiter has it.

How old is the tire (in terms of years?). If it's more than 3 yr's change it. It could be uneven tire wear (may not be easily visible) and also the tire structure that also ages and can possibly cause a wobble.
Get the engine mounting bushes checked. They tend to age and crack over a period of time.
Cone-set. was it checked ? If it was replaced, then the job needs to be done correctly (i.e. installing the race and bearing so that it sits flush and then properly greased and tightened)
Then, there are bushes in the front suspension arm on either side, they need to be greased periodically. Get them inspected, cleaned and greased (or replace if necessary).

That's some of the things that i can think about without riding the scoot.. for a more accurate diagnostics i'd have to ride the scoot.
You could go back thru the pages and search for my posts regarding maintenance/tasks I get done during a regular service. And I also recently came across this youtube channel.. pretty good content. Watch the activa videos by this guy, so you understand about the different parts that i talked about: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqF...KY08cCw/videos

Follow the intervals (days or km whichever is earlier) specified in the manual if you want to retain warranty.

If you are not bothered about warranty, then you could extend service intervals to 4000km or 6 months and should be fine. In such a case I'd recommend you switch to a 10w40 oil like the shell ax5 or ax7.
If you use the "recommended" 10w30 grade (i.e. what they use at the svc), Then I'd recommend you get it serviced every 3000km/4 months.

This is from my experience of owning (still own , ~70k km) and maintaining a 2007 Dio, that still runs well with just the basic servicing/periodic preventive maintenance (like replacing drive belt, clutch shoes, variator rollers) and nil engine repairs till date. It has never failed to fire up at the first kick/starter so far and to date returns the same performance and FE 38~42kmpl.

The TVS suspension is taller by 2/3 cm,did not check it side by side. No,the rear wheel does not touch the ground while on center stand and yes,it is a clean swap, nothing else needs to be changed. On the dio(2013) the seat height increased a little bit but its unnoticeable, doesn't look odd as it blends in with the design of the scoot but I am not sure how the activa would look with the rear raised.
I found the video on YouTube where the mod was done on an activa,On the video the guy says its fine but to my eyes it definitely looked a little bit raised,I did it anyway because, occasionally I take the dio on long rides and I was fed up of the stock suspension set up.

Do take a look at the video, search for: "nitrox suspension on activa" on YouTube.
