Remove the sparkplug, pour some oil, try to push start in all gears until you get the compression back.

        • Honda Unicorn 150 - Oil change

Hello everyone. Hope you all are doing well!!!

I'm going to change the engine oil in my Unicorn (22,000km) from Castrol Power One 15w40 to Motul 3100 gold 20w50.

Do I need to inform the mechanic to do an engine flush before an oil change? I don't know if Motul is synthetic or semi-synthethic. It says Technosynthese on the can. I don't know what that means. Castrol Power One was semi-synthetic.

Use the bike for long drives and office commute.

          Kindly advise.

I'm going for the service tomorrow morning, so replies before that would be greatly appreciated. Beer and pizzas for everyone.

          Take care guys. And thanks!

so far i know currently recommended grade is 10w30 so a 20w50 oil might be too much for the bike
technosynthese means semi synthetic most part of oil contains mineral only a little portion is synthetic

further authorised service centre might not allow for engine flush but if you know the mechanic well and if he suggests you should go for it

              Hey,

That's the first thing I did. But I did not get any clear answers on Google.

              Thanks for your reply.
Will post a review once I'm ready.

According to my memory in unicorn the engine oil which is used is 20w40.
And yes for the valve in future you might be needing to get your engine open to get new set put in as the petrol which we get generally a sugar type coat sets on the valve resulting the bike to behave very differently. It happened with me long time back. Please check my previous post. I am a very old client of honda unicorn.

20w50 will degrade the performance alot, you'll have cold start issues and also mileage drop. Best suited oil and grade I found for unicorn is shell ax7, 10w40.

                    • My Smoothie - Pre-Worshipped Honda Unicorn 2006!

                      Hi guyz!
My dad bought a pre-worshipped Honda Unicorn 2006 model.
Some experts told me that the models before 2009 were the best of the Unicorn lot.
So, without any second thoughts, we bought it.

We saw that bike's 'for sale' ad in OLX Bangalore.
My dad noted the seller's number and he went there the next day itself.
The seller said that the bike needs a renewal of insurance.
The bike has a denton the right side of petrol tank but not visible from a distance.
The bike has ran for about 46k kms.
The seller serviced the bike last week only and showed the bill to my dad.
                      Tyres were in good shape.
The self starter could not start the bike because the battery didn't had enough charge to start.
The seller even gave an unused VEGA professional helmet worth Rs. 1500.

The seller quoted Rs. 20000 in the OLX ad.
But when my dad met him, he came down to Rs. 17000.
But, my dad's negotiating power made the price to come down to Rs. 15000!!!

The owner filled petrol for half tank and blessed my dad to have a trouble-free ride.

I would say that the seller was kind enough to do all the essential things on the bike before selling like filled half tank with petrol, serviced, checked air pressure, shown that everything is working and need not to worry, took my dad for a test ride, said what to do when something happens, etc all in front of my dad.

My dad is so lucky to get this nice deal.
I would say that the deal is worth it 100%.

                      Ride experience:
Kick the starter, you will feel that kicker is soaked in butter.
Kicked? You think engine is not running,
You kick again and the kicker goes down whooosh,
Then you realize that engine is running,
You pull the clutch, clutch feels a bit heavier than other 150cc bikes,
You slot in the first gear, again you feel the smoothness of a Honda,
You release clutch, the bike goes front linear without any wheel in air movements.
NVH levels are so low that you cant even guess whether the engine is running or not in traffic.

After my dad closed the deal, he took it from the seller's place. The above is his experience.
He told me that he cruised at 90 effortlessly without any vibrations or stress from engine.

He cruised comfortably. The seat is spongy.

The engine is free-revving, it can be at 7000 rpm all day long.
Vibrations? If somebody says that a Honda engine vibrates, he may not ridden/driven a Honda in his entire life.
The smooth engine is very frugal, delivers mileage above 45 kmpl all the time.
Acceleration is not the best of all, but satisfies my dad's requirement.
The engine is bullet proof, just change oil and put fuel, it will be running all day long.
The engine has a good top-end but a 6th gear will enhance the top-end even more.
The engine puts out a smooth hum.
                      Exhaust note is not crisp.

Handling is awesome, thought not like the Yamahas.
                      Cornering feels like child play.
Hair pin bends are easy as 1 2 3.

The instrument cluster is old and outdated but it is NOT boring.
The fonts are well taken and it feels sporty to me.

                      Pros:
                      + Smoothest Honda-made engine ever.
+ Superb mileage, about 50 kmpl.
                      + Handling is good.
                      + Comfortable seat.
                      + Good mid-range an top-end.
                      + Good Headlight light spread.

                      Cons:
                      - Looks are boring.
                      - Feels under-powered.
                      - Horn is not loud; not up to the mark.
                      - Lacks crisp throttle response.
                      - A short handle should have done justice to the bike's handling powers.

Yes, every ownership thread requires pictures.
                      Here you go!

                      Front:

Notice my dad's previous ride behind it, Yamaha Libero.

                      Rear view:

Instrument Cluster, notice the odometer reading:

Notice the dent near Honda logo, not visible uh?

Not sure if its because of that handle or OLD oil
