Honda svc changed my Front fork pipes and springs saying it was slightly scratched

    Hai,
I recently sold my Yamaha glady and went for a used unicorn. Its a 2009 Unicorn with odo reading 44k. It was in good shape. I kept it for service at Honda service centre.
They called me a couple of times asking me whether to replace this and that. And of the thing they asked was Fork oil seal. Since thats something that wears out i told them to change it. When i went to take the bike i was expecting a bill of around 3k. But i was shocked to hear it was 5.5K.

They had replaced my Front fork tube, its springs and most things related to suspension. my old Tubes wasn't in bad shape at all. I own an rx 100 which is 20 years old and i haven't changed its fork tubes yet. it was late in the evening and the mechanics and left the place so they asked me to come next morning to talk with the mechanic. One of the mistake i did was i paid the bill and took the bike that day and took it back to svc the next day. And i was shocked at mechanic's reply. he was telling me that whenever their is oil leak in the fork its because tube is faulty. I kept arguing that it starts leaking when oil seal is worn out and replacing it would solve the problem but he kept insisting that ALWAYS LEAKS OCCUR WHEN TUBE IS FAULTY AND IT SHOULD BE REPLACED . This is something i am hearing for the first time. I have been used to bike since last 2 decades and have never heard such a claim.

So after some argument he agreed to revert back to my old pipe but i should pay labour charge and also for a set of new oil seals. But that will be total loss for me. so i didnt agree with that and came back.

Now did anybody have to change their tubes because of some slight scratches which are almost invisible to naked eyes . I have taken my old tubes from them so that i can prove i was right. So what should i do now ?. I dont think they should be allowed to go free on this. Whom should i report this to ?

Guys I fitted a straight handle bar on my Honda unicorn

    Pros -

    Handling has increased
More relaxed feeling when you ride
Looks better than the stock one

    Cons -

More vibration can be felt in our hands
The handle sliders won't fit properly

Almost all handle bars have the same diameter. Not sure about cable lengths. If they are short then re routing may needed

    Tight chain
    clutch setting
engine oil that has done more kms than recommended
they always do the clutch setting, chain setting and say now it wont happen. I have bought the heel and toe gear shifter because i cant shift to 2nd gear with just the toe. I also had ridden other Unicorn's, there is a nice CLICK while changing gears. mine goes 1st to 2nd like THUD!

honda service is worse here in PCMC.

Surprised to see so little discussion about the Unicorn 160. I've seen quite a few on the road and picked up one a couple of months back. A few first impressions

    - Overall, it is a very plain looking bike without any standout features. The one thing I can think of is the rear lamp that is shaped like a H
    - While the fit and finish is generally good, the quality of the switchgear is pathetic and not fit for a 80K bike. What were Honda thinking when they put the choke down near the carburetor?
    - Headlamp is pathetic, I have a Wego and I find it is much brighter and gives more confidence

Some of the good things I found
    - Engine is unbelievably smooth below 5000 rpm. After that, there is some roughness but it could be because it is new
    - Gear shifting is good but I've had instances of false neutrals on occasion
    - Handling is good very confidence inspiring in the city. I find the ride to be a little on the hard side, the seat is also not that comfortable (a little hard)

Overall, I think it is a decent bike but nothing memorable. Honda will sell 1000s per month and it will run for years without complaint.

I'd bought this as a commuter, but I think I would've been better served with an Activa 125 for my daily office commute. That is more of a gripe about Bangalore traffic than this bike.
    1) Honda is bothered only about profit margins these days. The switch gear used is the same one found on the Honda Dream and trigger. Hell, the same thing is used on the CBR 150. Imagine that. Same switchgear found on a Rs 60,000 bike is found on one costing 1.3 lacks

    2) I agree headlights are weak. They are also pretty useless on my Old cb unicorn. The beam is not very powerful and highway riding at night is a real pain. Cannot be upgraded because of ac circuit.

Bikes which cost in the same region, offer more features than honda and are better designed.
