@ Nilhawk and scorpion81: thanks for your response to my question on the tires. I am sold on the bike. But, people here seem more knowledgeable than the sales persons. That's why I asked.

Hi guys i test rode the impulse today, i loved the way the bike behaves, the suspension is like a breeze, the power is "Okay", could have been better but my sheer requirement of a third two wheeler is Fuel average with Comfort in the city, and according to the above post i think i like the average of 55+.
By the way is there any way by which we can fit a center stand in the bike(dont mind in sacrificing a little ground clearance) because there are kids and other elements in my neighborhood, who like jumping and playing on the vehicles.

i am going to the showroom again tomorrow and i might book the bike. But any idea what are the lowest prices going on in Mumbai and where(which dealer ?), i am asking this because every dealer is quoting different price and a waiting period of 1 month. the prices so far that i got are 79300 , 81000 , 82000. This is MH01 registration. Please advice and suggest some best deal if anyone knows.
          Thanks in advance

            Guys

Some observations I made during the short test drive today.

            1. The best aspects of the bike are suspension over rough/bumpy terrain, smooth engine/gearbox and brakes.

            1. Engine: While the engine is smooth(for a single cylinder), it tends to run out of breath in 1st gear rather quickly. The smoothness of the engine made me want to rev it some more, but a look at the tach indicated that I was at redline.

            2. Gear Box: Shifts well with a direct feel and with little play. 2nd-5th gears appears to be closer spaced, but with quite a drop from 1st to 2nd

            3. Suspension/Tires: Probably the best part of the bike. Absorbs pot holes well and grip on gravel was good. The front end dives during braking, but in a controlled way.

            4. Brakes: Good, with decent feel.

            5. Not tested: a bunch of things including high speed stability, stability in cornering, lights etc.

            6. Other: Hero has gone cheap is couple of areas: No Kill Switch, Gas cap comes off rather than staying hinged. There might be more, but I did not notice.

            7. Conclusion: I pick up a red one tomorrow. and will be dispensing off the saree guard and knee guard.

              Test rode the impulse yesterday

1.again liked the suspension and overall ergonomics.

2.When switching from first gear to 2nd , i felt a sudden drop in torque. Overall a rev happy engine.

3.bike is very much flickable , brilliant for city usage.

              4. Rear brakes seemed to be useless. isnt rear brake reqd more than the front in off roading?

Congratulation. Please update with your experience with the bike.

You are right that the use of rear brake is more in offroading but note that since there is less traction in off roading scenerio (compared to a road), you do not need very powerful brakes.

                So I start off-roading... :D

                    • Mileage

I just filled up my tank. It took 12.8 litres (the tank included a little bit that dealer put). It might take a while before I can report back.

I got 42 KMPL on reserve to reserve basis. I would like to add here that...

                        1. I rev the bike hard.
                        2. It includes more than 10 Km pure cross country in soft sand and river bad where you can not go beyond 2nd gear.
                        3. 20% of the time off roading.

Conclusion, if somebody ride it nicely (on the roads), you can get around 55 for sure.

You will get better accuracy of fuel efficiency with Reserve to Reserve method.

                          • Went for a 100km ride today to Nandi hills and back. Included NHwy, SHwy and some ghat section. Over all I am happy with the bike. The suspension is great even at highway speed. Perfect for Indian roads. Was able to keep up with a Bullet Classic 350 and Apache 180. The bike needs more POWER.

The engine seems to run out of steam after 90 kmph -- it could be because of run-in tightness. Hit top speed of 105kmph - did not stay there for long. The stock tires are pretty good. However, the front end is twitchy went entering corners. Could be the tires, or suspension - not sure. Brakes are good too.

Still trying to get used to the "hole" between 1st and 2nd gears. It's a pain when cruising slowly. First gear is too short, and 2nd too tall. The rest of the gears are close ratio.

What do you mean? Number of front and rear sprocket teeth? I think Hero should provide those detailed specs somewhere. I am finding it hard to find any of these including compression/gear ratios etc.
