Actually, with this gears, Impulse became slightly slower than NXR.

NXR has to reach 10,000 rpm to move at 130 kmh speed. If it is not possible, the speed in the YouTube clips you mentioned are, as usual, not correct.
    .
Not sure if your calculations Punarvasu.. here is mine:

Total Drive RatioPrimary Reduction X Final Reduction X 5th gear ratio)

    NXR 9.046
    Impulse: 9.23

So the gearing of the NXR is about 2% taller.Which means if the Impulse's engine is spinning at 8K for 105kmph, then the NXR is spinning at 7,840. It does not end there. One has look at the circumference of the rear tire:

    Tires:
    NXR: 120/90-18
    Impulse: 110/90-17

If you compare the circumference of the tires, the tires of the NXR is 6.8% larger than the. So, the at 105kmph the NXR's engine is actually spinning at 7,340. If we extrapolate, at the 9K red-line NXR's theoretical top speed is 128kmph.

So, the NXR's overall gearing is 8.8% taller than the Impulse for the same engine capacity.

Total reduction ratio of NXR seems to be (67/20)x(49/17)x(30/32) = 9.0524 and of Impulse, (67/20)x(50/17)x(30/32) = 9.2371 and the difference, as you said, is about 2.04%.

While searching for the specifications of a bike, different cites give different figures. The size of tyre of NXR shown here is 110/90-17; not 120/90-18. If the tyre size of both these bikes is the same 110/90-17, the circumference is 1979.3714 mm; I think.

If so, NXR reaches 98.4 kmh and Impulse reaches 96.4 kmh at 7500 rpm in fifth gear due to the different sprocket ratios. Hope I am correct.

      • Hi bharat... just a couple of questions
-your setup is neat, but I'm planning to
        mount it lower, though
preferably not as low as the
        the crash guard... let's
        see...

-your lights are connected to the pilot light? Because
        the headlight is AC I
        guess... any problems with
the battery? N pls tell us
how bright is it (lumens) n
        how much electricity it
        consumes, if possible

        -Which brand are these
        lights? N details of Mumbai
        seller...

Thnx bro, and yeah i dont have any installation pics as my phone got bricked and was using a dabba phone.
Its 35W HID, so, no rewinding needed. and also, i didnt want to mess around the the factory fit wires (didnt want cutting and all) so there was only one alternative, to get a seperate switch installed for the HID which is what i got done, will be calling my friend over as he wanted to see this setup, so will take a few evening snaps from his phone.
And yes, it has upper and dipper both in it, the brightness is way way better than the stock halogen bulb.

You are probably correct. ~2% is what i got without taking tire into account.

However, the NXR redlines at 9.5K The Impulse at 8K. That alone means a theoretical top speed of 124kmph for the NXR, extrapolating your calculation. Now, granted the Impulse's engine freely spins past its 8K redline. But has difficulty going beyond it in 5th gear due to lack of power.. I think there is more power that is waiting to be unleashed from the Impulse engine. Gotta figure that out..

For better comparison, try taking pics in the late evening with less ambient light rather than pitch darkness... and I guess your light will be purplish?

I will do that today, and its not purplish at all, infact, its completely similar to those new fortuner's and merc's lights (a relative lately brought his fortuner at my place and we parked them side by side and found it to be completely similar and was teasing him that see, no difference between a INR 2100 headlight and a INR 20000 headlight ), purplish light gives pathethic visibilty, and its 12000K which has the purplish colour, even the 10000k is not purplish, its complete bluish with a tinge of white. I was myself scared when i was later told that 8000k will be purplish by a friend, though i had got it tested in the shop and felt cheated by my friend's words (just like when you get a haircut, it looks great in the salon but as soon as you reach home, you curse yourself and the hairdresser) but when installed, i thanked god as it is what i wanted and same as what i saw in the shop. I will also take a pic of the bike from the front view so we can get a better idea of its colour as well.

Just thought I'd post a pic of my first ride to Kodachadri and first ride on the Impulse in Sept 2012. Bike had a little more than 500 kms on the odo.
                              -------

Anyone retrofitted a centre stand? Or found an alternative? I'm kinda paranoid if I have to fix a puncture by the road side with no stand.

Hi Samyaza my friends and I too rode up Kodachadri about a month ago .I enjoyed every bit of it.
I have done 18000kms since last June and no punctures yet. But I am sure that a rock or small stool could be wedged underneath the engine.
