  • re: Hero Impulse ownership experience

well i don't own this bike bit so i cannot judge how good is this bike. yes i had a bad experience in Honda and Hero Honda showrooms. both were not interested in selling their products.
anyways regarding the idle rpm not remaining constant it is due to the fact that the tuning hasn't been done properly.

    • hi.....
yesterday i calculated millage before first service and i got 42.07 kmpl. I filled tank to full with 8.9 Ltr of petrol, though i was not riding on reserve so it was supposed to be less then 8.5 but i dont know how 8.9 ltrs went in my bike's fuel tank. From a tank full of fuel i rode 374.5 kms and i again filled it to the top with 8.9 ltrs. Surprisingly when i checked tire pressure it showed more then 32psi on both. i brought it down to 22 and experienced a smooth ride after it for the first time and i was more confident while cornering. i don't know, delivery guys don't check the pressure before handing it over to us or its just a mistake. Now my trip meter is showing 430 kms and soon ill be going for my first service. Any advice guys that i should keep in mind when i go for first service?

      • Whobbling when 2 people ride on Impulse

        Hi,
I am riding Hero Impulse Green. Overall Bike gives great riding comfort, I could sense whobbling when 2 people ride. Any one faced similar issue? what could be the cause for this whobbling when 2 people are travelling. Single ride I dont observer or its not visible.

        • @ersriram. check Tyre pressure. i felt same for one month after i purchased my bike. After a month I checked Tyre pressure and i realized that i was running on more then 32 psi in both tyres. Now after 22 psi in both tyres i feel no wobbling.

yes check the tyre pressure..it should be 22 psi in the front and 29 in the back tyre
If you ride like there's no tomorrow there won't be.

Well as usual it was a whole day long affair and nothing done other than wash-oil change- add a overpriced 3M additive (?) without my permission in the oil. My indicator LED on the speedo console was not working, they don't have spares for that. In the process of tinkering with it, they messed up my pilot lamp. I realised this after coming home. The bike vibrates as much as an Apache I guess (..and to think I used to make fun of TVS as Terrible Vibration System, my bad.)Idle speed hovers from around 900 rpm on cold starts to around 1900 rpm after 25-30 Km, sometimes I can even see the needle wobbling mindlessly when idle. Dunno why this issue is there.Since about 10-12 days I haven't even ridden my bike and taking the metro to college, reason: terrible wobbling & bumpy ride.Got pressure checked and stuff, it was fine. Then went to Divine Auto Noida (worst ever, I bought my impulse from there), reached at 8AM and my waiting no. was 32 LOL. After an hour or so, still no mechanics were to be seen and I tried to talk to a lot of people, none seemed interested. Then I met the "alignment guy" and he sad it would take atleast Rs. 500+ for looking at the wheel alignment.Came back frustrated, and referred to some local mechanic. He said your spokes are loose (strange, this hasn't happened in around 3-3.5 years in my friends' Avenger & Electra)I took it to a local 'expert' in sector-9 noida. He took 200 Rs., removed front wheel and tightened spokes on the rotary stand,, then could not remove the rear wheel and tightened spokes while tilting the bike on the side stand. Even then the job wasn't done properly. Turns out some spokes are broken. So much for an off-road bike, which has only been driven on Delhi's 4,6 laned paved roads TILL DATE.The mech recommends that all rear spokes be replaced. 36 new spokes need to be bought but no spares with Hero people as expected. I talked to Uppal Motors as well, and he was 'pissed off' that I asked such questions and almost shooed me off, telling me to call Divine Auto.I have lost the little respect I had for this company. They are doing us a favor with their so-called service. I have paid my money and hence now I am nobody to them.On a brighter side, my MBA is about to be over and in the 3rd semester itself I got placed s a Business Analyst in a reputed IT MNC. Will be getting a company cab to-n-fro office, might have to move to Bangalore though. I had thought of taking my motorcycle to wherever my job took me, perhaps even plan weekend tours in south India, placed I always wanted to visit.Sadly all my enthusiasm has died of late.My father is insisting not to bother with any more headaches, and put it up on OLX. I have 3 months of college still left, in confusion which decision to take. The company is deaf & arrogant as far as I have seen.
Have you tried contacting company directly. Just fill up the query form that is given in the website and write in such a way that you should not shout at them, but they should feel that you are very pissed customer and desperately wanting help and such. Then just sit and watch the magic. The same suggestion i had given to SARBONAXELY in extreme thread and he was treated as a special customer and all his complaint were addressed. Just by the attitude of service staff doesn't mean the company is like that. In fact hero is a company that takes its customer very seriously and this has been told by my mechanic in service center. If a complaint reaches them then the area manager in that area immediately asks the showroom to give an explanation for harrasing customer. SARBONOXELY can give you a better reply than me since upon my suggestion he has done the same.

And most important thing never write that you had worked on it outside as first thing they will do is cancel your warrenty. So write out all the problem you faced and never worry about spares as you also write that. After you write that your tension is over and the tension will be now on service center as after the work company will call you if you are satisfied, and if you reply no, then the service center will face the music.

So write to HERO as company has given this option because they want to know the feedback of customers.

And i repeat never ever evaluate a company on its service center.
I am telling my experience about service:-

First of all i had not touched a service center in 11 years of ownership of joy as after free services i never went to them as i did most of the works myself and also i got an excellent mechanic outside who is fabulous in his job.
When my sister pleasure came, i used to do its SERVICES in ROHAN motors here but when they didn't changed the engine oil in fourth service and billed it for me i was pissed and i never went back to the service center. The next two free services were not done and instead i did it myself and also any major work was done my friendly mechanic.

So when i bought my extreme i was naturally worried where to service and since it had exteneded warranty which amounts to 5 years of warranty on engine, i had to do paid and free services for the bike in company. First of all no to rohan motors because they had ruined my sis pleasure and my cousin brothers CD DELUXE. So i had to go for another service center which is good at servicing. BHARAT motors is there but they have too much bike and will take late in servicing.
Now most in Bhubaneswar do not know there is a small service center known as kharvela motors. It is quite small and also doesn't feel good to look at. But i am the person who doesn't look for show in the service center as some big service center. So i decided to do service in this.

From the first service itself a single mechanic works on my bike and also he is best in his buisness.

I have talked with other customers and no customer of that small service center is dissatisfied.

Each service i tip the mechanic and he does all the job i ask for. Even during first service they opened the clutch cover to clean the centrifugal filter and oil strainer eaven if i didn't ask for and the mechanic always change the engine oil infront of me and if i am not present he waits for me to change the engine oil.

Now i am adding my sixth service experience:-
When i went there i had just changed my engine oil to SHELL advance ultra 10W 40(fully synthetic) so i refused to change the oil. The donkey at the service reception began to argue that oil changing is compulsary and such. Then my mechanic intervened and told that since engine oil has been changed why should he force customer to change it. He also said that i take good care of bike and the guy at reception must not worry about that. The guy at eceotion also told to grease the handle coneset and also change shock oil which i didn't agree as i never open something which is not giving problem. In my JOY i never open the coneset after once fitting and it last for 25-30k easily before requiring replacement. If you open and regrease then it will not last long.
Similarily the shock oil they use is local and not of good quality and i use MOTUL or ESCORT shock oil in my joy always. So when i asked the SVC mechanic that i want to use the same in my joy and since SVC do not stock it then what to do, then he said you can change it yourself or if you want to service it here then just bring it here and do not tell any body and i will change it.

Sobasically you see that if you build good rapport with mechanic and tip him then he will always help you. I know i will go for only regular service to that SVC as major work i will do myself or will do it from my mechanic who works on all my bike.

So do not be worried and write to hero directly.

                    • I've just booked the Impulse and sad to see only one thread dedicated to the bike! I would love to know more - especially the "wire-in-the-carb" mod and even to the extent of seeing if we can plonk the Karizma engine onto the chassis of the Impulse.

I will be asking a lot of questions once I get my hands on the bike.

                      • hello all.
i have a few questions regarding this bike. though i did ask about it in some other forum i think this is the right place to get my doubts cleared.
having learned about this bike through this forum i learnt that it has an extremely short first gear and very long second gear. well i know it is supposed to be like that due to its off roading capabilities. but my question is can this bike be modded for long tours? like changing the gear ratios? for a more linear pickup n torque. what is the ideal cruising speed of this bike where it can just run with hours together non stop without getting the engine temp rise at alarming levels. we could say the ideal speed where it can give optimum fuel efficiency too.
the upright position for a long drive just seems so perfect in this bike.

Hi , I got those Gaiters first left of J.C Road around 100 meters in.The shop is located to your left from J.C Road. I think the shop is named Motocross and something , I do not exactly know but its at the end of the line of all the motorcycle pimp up shops .its smaller from the front but a long shop . The gaiters that i am using is not of good quality rubber. it's torn in couple of places .I didn't find black colored gaiters .I have requested him to get a pair of Black long gaiters.Last time i was there to get an Iridium spark plug i saw Yellow and Red gaiters.

                            • i had been to goa on my impulse from mumbai, was a great experience, mostly used the 5th gear n was at d speed of 80-90 kmph on most of the road.
Used 3rd gear on the ghats n hairpin bends
Use 4th gear for quick overtakes
the engines was all good, at 1 stretch, rode, 233 kms non stop at 90-95kmph. no issues at all.
the fuel efficiency that i got was 638.3 kms for 11 liters so i guess d FE that it gave me was around 58kmpl. honestly i was shocked, as many impulse owners said that they hardly get 50kmpl. i guess it varies according to driving patterns as well.
my dad gets 45kmpl in d city on same impulse whereas i get 53kmpl.
trust me u wont feel any pain in your back if u use impulse for touring.
