re these lights cop friendly? I saw exactly same lights on a duke 200 when a white clothed robber (aka traffic cop) was fining him and asking to remove the lights there and then
I just loved the setup bro.

The illumination is really good, but LEDs with that intensity and at that height can be a trouble for on comming traffic. You should consider putting them on the engine guard. Wont hurt on coming motorists

i have a few questions regarding this bike. though i did ask about it in some other forum i think this is the right place to get my doubts cleared.
having learned about this bike through this forum i learnt that it has an extremely short first gear and very long second gear. well i know it is supposed to be like that due to its off roading capabilities. but my question is can this bike be modded for long tours? like changing the gear ratios? for a more linear pickup n torque. what is the ideal cruising speed of this bike where it can just run with hours together non stop without getting the engine temp rise at alarming levels. we could say the ideal speed where it can give optimum fuel efficiency too.
the upright position for a long drive just seems so perfect in this bike.

Hero has completely screwed up this bike by meddling with the 1st and 2nd gear ratios. the explanation that this is for off roading is complete BS. The ratios have been changed from the the original Honda NXR Bros transmission. why I don't know. Some one pointed out that these ratios are similar to that of an existing Hero bike. So, they may have just used that engine. Basically, 1st and 2nd gears completely suck -- bordering on un-rideable. Optimum cruising speed is about 80 kmph, after this the engine appears to strain. It does not overheat, but appears to straining. That again is because of the short gearing. The only solution, IMHO, is a sprocket change. Which I am exploring. Someone here claims to get 63kmpl while cruising at 90kmph!!! That sounds unbelievable. I don't get more than 33kmpl, regardless of the speeds I cruise it.

Whoaa, i just love the 2nd gear on this bike, from 25 kmph to 56 kmph is an awesome feelig (maybe i liked it as i dont own a cbr600 but iwould love to), and regarding the FE, dude i still get 55+ in mixed riding conditions (80% highways, 20% city) though always refilled it after 55kms in a litre to avoid stalls. i can prove it to you if you are in mumbai. Get your bike serviced by a good service centre (surely does make difference)
If your in mumbai, i can suggest you an authorised service centre

thanks for the info. me too had the same idea of sprocket changing but i am not sure if it changes the gear ratios. my worry about changing the sprockets is that it will compensate the short gear but higher gears that aren't short will become longer so it might get harder to overtake vehicles.
regarding optimum cruising speed something between 70 to 80 is fine. it gives us the time to enjoy surroundings on state highways gives you the time to take in the nature. touring is not about high speeds. that said i am even ready for one day tours on my scoot
i actually enjoy riding my scoot at around 60s km/hr on state highways nearby hyderabad.

You are right. Changing sprockets will not do anything to eliminate the big hole between 1st and 2nd gears. IMHO, even the higher gears are all short. For example, in 5th at 4K rpm, the bike cruises at 51kmph. An FZ, on the other hand, cruises at 60. that is more than a 10% differential. This can be addressed with sprocket changes.

Dont know what the guys are Hero were thinking. Or rather, not thinking.

                    • I accept the hole between 1 & 2. But seriously, r u guys expecting a street or sport bike gearing on a DS? I guess its high time u guys ride a KLR650 or DR or XR650. These 650cc bikes have a max speed of 100-120 mph. Whereas a 400cc sports bike can kick their ass. But that is where the difference is. Can a busa or gxr or CBR do the Baja or Dakar. NO!!!!!

After riding from Kargil to Rangdum, the guys on Bullets, ZMA and pulsars were crying with back pain. But I had a smile coz I never worried abt the bad/no roads in that section. That's the same smile all of us have when we just ride over a speed breaker and all other bikes slow down.

It is a DS not a sports bike and has its own advantages/disadvantages. U want top/cruising speed better than a FZ then buy a sports bike.

                      • Yup I agree that the Impulse might not be the zippiest bike on the road. But it does do what a DS is supposed to do, or at least what I expect it to do.
I would have been a fool to expect it to rival the street performance of the fz, same as I would be a fool to expect the fz to do rough roads as well as the Impulse.
It's comfy for sitting with the soft seats n erect sitting posture, it's comfy while riding and takes up all the sorry excuses of roads here without a hitch. In the bargain mebbe I lost top end, but again how often in a week do you cross 110kmph? As of now, I've found the cruising at 60-70 (which is definitely quicker than rest of the traffic) to be quite relaxed. I get a mileage of around 42, which is okay by me.
So I've got comfiness n practicality, though I don't have max speed above 110, I don't have back pain due to "sporty" riding position and hard suspension, and I definitely do not scrape the centre stand every time I come across a speed breaker.
If roads were better, no doubt the 200NS would have been the smart choice.

PS : I hope lights will be better once bharat helps us out... :what:

                          • well I won't argue with anyone here but i was wondering if this bike could be modded only for touring purpose
i don't need the quick acceleration in the lower gears but a good cruising speed of about 70-80 giving me the capability to ride it for hours together without any stops. can the whole gearbox be changed?

Rather swap the engine with that of a ZMA, a guy has done it and he says its a direct fit, just welding is needed near the head part for the exhaust to fit in.
Try searching on youtube, Hero impulse 230cc

                              • Muralidar, my friend rode an Impulse from Blore to Shillong and back this Jan. He was doing 90-100 kmph all day and didn't face any issues. I took mine to Leh last yr and for 1300kms trip last month. And I was cruising with C500s, KTMs and P220s in the highways at 100kmph all day.

The bike is capable of taking all the beating and can still go on. But if u want to do all of it at lower rpms then a zma engine swap will be an ideal option.

Or if its only long distance high speed touring u look at and don't want to go thru the hassle of engine swap, try changing the primary/inner sprocket. Stock is 17T. Try fitting an 18 or 19T. Do let us know how the bike performs if u change. Also note that ull have to be in lower gears in city traffic if u increasing the primary sprocket.
