nice to know impulse could be a good tourer if one is not much interested in 100+ speeds.Originally posted by viks View Posti had been to goa on my impulse from mumbai, was a great experience, mostly used the 5th gear n was at d speed of 80-90 kmph on most of the road.
Used 3rd gear on the ghats n hairpin bends
Use 4th gear for quick overtakes
the engines was all good, at 1 stretch, rode, 233 kms non stop at 90-95kmph. no issues at all.
the fuel efficiency that i got was 638.3 kms for 11 liters so i guess d FE that it gave me was around 58kmpl. honestly i was shocked, as many impulse owners said that they hardly get 50kmpl. i guess it varies according to driving patterns as well.
my dad gets 45kmpl in d city on same impulse whereas i get 53kmpl.
trust me u wont feel any pain in your back if u use impulse for touring.
can you tell me what is the rpm at red line? and also at what speed impulse goes at half the red line in the fifth gear ? the speed at which the rpm is exactly half of its red lining is generally considered as the cruising speed.

Did you get it painted at Motocross?? Even i would like to paint some parts black. & wont the exhaust paint peel off due to heat?Originally posted by SiDDi View Post@viks the original color is Black. Tank plastics , chain slip guard and exhuast cover were painted to black. Two coats of paint with a clear coat costed me Rs 850.

The redline starts at 8100 rpm, and at 8000 rpm the speed is 104kmph, at 4000 rpm, its 56kmph, i have gone till 9200 rpm and the speed was 118kmph (the winds were on my side),Originally posted by murlidhar View Postnice to know impulse could be a good tourer if one is not much interested in 100+ speeds.

Honestly, even at 110 kmph, the engine doesnt feel stressed at all, but it doesnt cross 9000 rpm, i forcefully tried making it go 9200 rpm, which was only once, i wonder what speed will it take if it can be pulled to 11 rpm. However, it has a very very quick acceleration, but a lesser top speed as it has been tuned that way for offroading.
Also, once just for experimenting, i removed its side tank wings, front mudguard, saree guard, rear grab rails, and also the tool kit, and at the same 8000 rpm, i got a speed of 115kmph where i used to get 104kmph with all these things on it. awesome isnt it. And they say that the speed limiter limits the speed at 105 kmph, hahaha. Not all who wander are Lost

Friends,
I am planning to buy an Impulse. i tour a lot on motorcycle.
Kindly request Impulse owners to unbiasedly answer below mentioned queries
1. I am 5'7": Would this be a problem to ride the bike?
2. How does the bike behave on wet roads? Does it lose the grip or fish tail on wet surfaces?
3. How does the bike behave on roads with loose gravel and sand? Does it lose traction and skid on such surfaces?
4. Can we easily maintain a speed of 90 Kmph without any vibrations?
5. is it good for normal touring on Highways?
6. How is the braking on this bike? Do we get a good feedback on hard braking?
7. What is the fuel efficiency like?
8. Have you had any punctures while off roading?
9. how does the bike behave in city traffic conditions?
10. Finally how does Impulse behave in corners?
Eagerly awaiting responses.

1. I am 5'7": Would this be a problem to ride the bike?
[Amit] Little bit. This bike is taller than other bikes by some way. I will suggest you should take a test ride and find comfortable position.
2. How does the bike behave on wet roads? Does it lose the grip or fish tail on wet surfaces?
[Amit] I find it gripping much better than other bikes. Have not found any issues in wet condition (other than getting my legs painted with mud) so far. Driven more than 6000 km in last one year.
3. How does the bike behave on roads with loose gravel and sand? Does it lose traction and skid on such surfaces?
[Amit] Its a perfect bike for these kind of surfaces.
4. Can we easily maintain a speed of 90 Kmph without any vibrations?
[Amit] Its difficult to maintain 90 kmph on this bike. It is more comfortable between 70-80 (this is my observation and personal opinion)
5. is it good for normal touring on Highways?
[Amit] It is good in terms of riding position but not so good when a vehicle passes by you. You will not get confidence of riding a bullet on highway when you ride impulse. But on broken road, nothing like impulse.
6. How is the braking on this bike? Do we get a good feedback on hard braking?
[Amit] I have disk brakes for both wheels (rear custom fitted) and it works perfectly.
7. What is the fuel efficiency like?
[Amit] Around 45 kmpl
8. Have you had any punctures while off roading?
[Amit] Fortunately no punctures for me but we had multiple punctures in our group while traveling across ladakh
9. how does the bike behave in city traffic conditions?
[Amit] Nice
10. Finally how does Impulse behave in corners?
[Amit] Doesnt give you confidence of say a duke if you are going fast in corner but it is generally balanced when in its speed zone.

You will not need to change gears if you are cruising. You can put it in 5th gear and it keeps going well at speed between 70-80 kmph without any trouble. I have done multiple rides covering more than 200 km in 3-4 hrs on highways, never faced any heating up issues.

i have a few questions regarding this bike. though i did ask about it in some other forum i think this is the right place to get my doubts cleared.
having learned about this bike through this forum i learnt that it has an extremely short first gear and very long second gear. well i know it is supposed to be like that due to its off roading capabilities. but my question is can this bike be modded for long tours? like changing the gear ratios? for a more linear pickup n torque. what is the ideal cruising speed of this bike where it can just run with hours together non stop without getting the engine temp rise at alarming levels. we could say the ideal speed where it can give optimum fuel efficiency too.
the upright position for a long drive just seems so perfect in this bike.

How did you guys remove the stupid saree guard? I removed the nut near the footrest and another under the seat. Then I saw that the third nut is actually the one that holds the "toolkit box" to the frame? Should that nut be removed too to remove the saree guard?
Btw, just got my Impulse - green yesterday!
