The bike is capable of taking all the beating and can still go on. But if u want to do all of it at lower rpms then a zma engine swap will be an ideal option.

Or if its only long distance high speed touring u look at and don't want to go thru the hassle of engine swap, try changing the primary/inner sprocket. Stock is 17T. Try fitting an 18 or 19T. Do let us know how the bike performs if u change. Also note that ull have to be in lower gears in city traffic if u increasing the primary sprocket.

I agree, even i was at 90-100kmph (Except for when on hairpin bends, where i was at 60kmph) on my way to goa and back, the bike never complained. Never.

      • Guys, here r some of the pics.

2 10W LED lights. Made two clamps and mounted the lights to the point where the headlight assembly is mounted.

The power is taken from the main line that goes to the headlight. But these lights have a separate switch. Did not give a direct connection from the battery bcoz if I forget to turn off the lights then it will keep running even if the bike ignition is off. That's why took the connection from the main line. In this way the lights are turned off when I turn the ignition off.

I know am lazy. The switch is still held together by 2 tags. Need to do a mounting plate for it. Will do it tomorrow.

The same lights are available in Chennai also for 5k a pair. Will try to get the sellers contact number. I got mine from Mumbai for 6K + shipping.

P.S. I made that Dakar ADV sticker. Anyone wants it, PM me. I have 3 different sizes in reflective white and black. The one is the bike is the smallest size.

Top speed is as much about aerodynamics as it is horsepower, which is why the sport bikes have fairing. If you compare the Impulse gear ratios with the Honda NXR Bros, you will see the difference for your self. See Endurance's valuable post on this same thread (http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post777925)

The Impulse gear ratios have been "Indianized" by Hero.. Why? Are the pot holes here in India different than the ones in Brazil?

            Comment

            • True... But check the 5th gear ratio. Its the same as NXR150. So I don't think highway cruising or top speed is going to be any different. But yup, Hero did mess up with the 1st n 2nd gears big time. May be its to satisfy the Indian mentality of 'Kitna deti hai??'

Impulse, Dazzler, Unicorn, Xtreme and Hunk shares the same gear box. Unicorn’s and Dazzler’s final drive is 2.800, Xtreme’s and Hunk’s is 3.077 and Impulse’s is 2.941.

Thanks punarvasu for the clarification.Looks like Hero is trying to make an offroad bike out of "Dazzler, Unicorn, Xtreme and Hunk's" gearbox.. tsk.. tsk..

ha. ha.. ha.. "Kitna Detha hai", and I got that question everyday for the 1st month, is a result of the top gear, usually.. If Hero was smart, they would have made the top gear taller..

                    • Had an absolutely hilarious experience test riding the Impulse yesterday.
Went to Auto Needs, Gurgaon and asked for a test ride. There was no display bike so we went to the store. On seeing the bike the sales guy remarked "Yeh kya banaa rakha hai"
"Mujhe samajh nahi aata ke aise kyun banaa dete hai bike."
I explained some of its capabilities. On seeing the seat he said "Ismey toh 3 , 4 log aaraam se baith jaae"
Was really disapointed with the pre-sales experience. I guess since Hero has its splendor, the salespeople are least bothered to learn about other bikes.

ha .. ha.. ha.. I hope you did ask the "kithna detha hai?" question. If not, the salesman would have ben even more disappointed..

-Neat, but I'm planning to mount it lower, though preferably not as low as the the crash guard... let's see...

-The pilot light? Because the headlight is AC I guess... any problems with the battery? N pls tell us how bright is it (lumens) n how much electricity it consumes, if possible

-Which brand are these lights? N details of Mumbai seller...

As a result, the pickup in first gear has increases considerably by about 11% but decreases by about 4 to 2% in other gears except 5th.

The top speed in fifth gear remains almost the same.

Not really punarvasu.. the secondary drive (chain/sprocket) ratios of the Impulse are shorter, making the engine spin faster for the same speed in all gears, and to make matters worse, our engine is designed to run out of breath soooner due to the lower redline. The NXR has a redline of 9K while the Impulse has a redline of 8K. So, Hero has messed with power delivery characteristics of the engine too. There are youtube clips showing that the NXR can hit 120-130kmph. Sadly, our stock Impulse will never get there.

Usually, while mentioning altering the final drive of any bike to increase the speed or torque, we are leaving other gears intact and hence calculating the effects is easier.

Here, the1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and the final drive ratios of Impulse is different from NXR and the overall gear ratios of each gear including 5th differs due to it and this difference effects the speed and torque.

Actually, with this gears, Impulse became slightly slower than NXR.

NXR has to reach 10,000 rpm to move at 130 kmh speed. If it is not possible, the speed in the YouTube clips you mentioned are, as usual, not correct.

There was a mistake in my previous post which I have corrected now. The figures were correct but while calculating the torque, the figures of Impulse were mistaken as NXR’s. Sorry for that.
