It belongs to Hero Moto corp though
. I actually wanted to attribute the multi-purpose role it plays for me. The etimology might be different to person to person for same thing.
Btw, my point was more towards the nature of ride we take day to day here in India.. be it any city you can never drive ideal tarmac-tarmac in any of your rides, be it going to office, spinning the wheel to get fresh air along side the beach, going to worship... I always encountered the path journey constitutes of tarmac, bad roads, average tarmac, no road, mud, water (if its rainy season). Impulse is giving u a 'comfortable' ride in these variying conditions, other 100cc 150cc bikes 'can ride' in these but how comfy are they compared to Impulse is the quesion. Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

It all began when our friend called Impulse an off-roader. I am living in a village – more precisely in a remote village – and am familiar with all the rides you mentioned except going to worship as it is not in my agenda.Originally posted by joeantony View PostIt belongs to Hero Moto corp though....
Remember that the alteration in Impulse’s sprocket is not for torque which is essential for a bike like Impulse; it is for speed. And I don’t know how comfortable the ride on it through muddy roads while raining but what I heard is that it throws mud on the rider.
Since both of us do not come to an agreeing point, let us sign a pact of ceasefire. I am turning 180o and marching away.

Thanks for this comparison. Clearly, Hero has used the same gear box of the Extreme/Hunk instead of the NXR Bros. this explains that big hole between 1st and 2nd gears that make it really difficult to ride the Impulse is slow traffic speeds.Originally posted by punarvasu View PostWho said it is the same? This is the gear ratios of Extreme and Hunk:
Primary: 3.50, Final: 3.071, 1st: 3.077, 2nd: 1.789, 3rd: 1.304, 4th: 1.091, 5th: 0.938. Rear tire: 100/90-18.
Impulse:
Primary: 3.50, Final: 2.941, 1st: 3.077, 2nd: 1.789, 3rd: 1.304, 4th: 1.091, 5th: 0.938. Rear tyre: 110/90-17.

the NXR BROS is only available in Brazil and is listed on their website Honda NXR 150 Bros Unfortunately, as I have learned since buying the Impulse, it is not an exact copy of the NXR. Hero has changed to gear ratios (by using one of their existing transmission) as a result, the 1st-2nd gear drop is HUGE -- similar to a 3 speed - and makes it difficult to manage in slow speed traffic.

If you see carefully what you yourself typed the gearbox ratios are the same (1/2/3/4/5). The final ratio is the sprockets.Originally posted by punarvasu View PostWho said it is the same? This is the gear ratios of Extreme and Hunk:

You can compare the gear ratios. The gear ratios of Impulse was collected from this thread itself; I think but I am not sure about it. Corrections if any are most welcome.
And it can jump 9.90 cms higher obstacles than Hunk/Extreme can do.
The NXR 150 Bros ratios are similar to the CRF150F, barring the 5th gear, as Honda Brazil already have the CRF150F in their portfolio & because the NXR is not a dirt only bike like the CRF.Last edited by Gyroerror; 09-19-2012, 11:44 AM.

Tak Tak go...
1st service done at adyar motors here in chennai. Only complaint I gave was the TAk TAK sound and they dont know how to fix it. They gave back as it is... I thnk just washed and replaced engine oil .. nothing else. Anyone has found a solution for this noise... any DIY tried. I read somewhere that you need to keep a thermocol padding beneath the console panel to stop this sound.. is this true? Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

Finally took out time to install the 26mm carb from the XR200, the airbox boot needed to be shortened as my home made adapter was a bit on the thicker side. The stock jetting is spot on with the pro circuit pipe, and the bottom and mid range is far superior to the original CV carb.

Hi Guys,
I got a Blue Impulse last week. Have finished around 280KM. Bought the bike primarily for long distance weekend trips - cant wait to finish the 1000KM run-in as quickly as possible. Overall, so far, am satisfied with the Bike's performance. I see that there are some Impulse veterans already on this forum - want your thoughts/assistance on a couple of points/concerns that i noticed:
1. The engine gets heated very quickly. Not sure if this normal for the Bike?
2. The rear brakes are poor (very spongy). Do you suggest any modifications to improve the feel?
3. The gearbox (as already shared on many forums) isn't that great. I hope the feel changes once the bike gets more miles.
4. Looking for good knuckle guards for the bike. Do you have any suggestions? I stock Rs 80 ones are poor and are useless, want to get better quality ones if available. I am from Bangalore, kindly suggest a vendor from where I could pick up good ones.
5. I am also looking at changing the headlight to a more powerful one, as I would be doing long rides and they would come in handy. Do you suggest any specific type of bulb etc? what do you think will be good?
Request the owners to kindly share best practices as it would be a massive help. Thanks in advance guys!Cheers!
