sludge will anyway form whether you change oil or not.but when you drain the old oil the sludge formed will also come out along with drained oil and your engine will get fresh new oil once you change it. This is recommended because there is lot more of wear and tear taking place when engine is new. formation of sludge is due to wear of piston ring and other components which takes place during initial running-in period which may last for first few thousand Km.of course you have oil filter to clean this sludge but it may also get choked specially if service centre guy did not cleaned/replaced it during first few servicing... this choking will partially restrict oil flow to engine and some sludge will pass through filter and circulate in the engine.this sludge will reduce engine life in long run. so with frequent oil change you are actually removing the sludge & other particles mixed in oil which have escaped through oil Filter providing clean oil to engine without sludge.Originally posted by ArriveAlone View PostLast edited by sachin1111; 02-05-2012, 04:32 AM.

I am asking this because the recommended first oil change of most or all the bikes are at 750-1000 kms. For Impulse and its original Honda NXR 150 Bros, it is between 500 and 750 kms.
Our engineers are, however, highly brilliant and are accepted worldwide.

+1 to that statement. I finished my first service and the service guy didn't clean centrifugal oil filter nor the carburetor. I did insist it but they were reluctant and said it is quite a time consuming job and they will do it in 6k service. I didn't push him to do it, for the fear that he may mess it up.Originally posted by sachin1111 View Postof course you have oil filter to clean this sludge but it may also get choked specially if service centre guy did not cleaned/replaced it during first few servicing...
Rather than that, I decided to change oil every 300 km until 1000km and 500km till 3000km mark.
The schedule in manual is if the oil filter is also cleaned whenever oil is replaced. However, since that is seldom done, it is better to replace the oil as frequently as feasible.
Since, 10w30 is recommended by company for Impulse, can anyone tell me if after 3000 km, is it ok to shift to 10w40 fully synthetic.

Noticed yesterday,
In idle or in neck to neck traffic when the high beam is on, we can still use the passing light, as the headlight is dim at very low rpm.Vehicles Owned/Previously Owned

Hi, did the handle need to be unscrewed for this process?Originally posted by Nilay View PostToday i went to service center and check the steering assembly and the mechanic found it loose. The Big bolt on alloy triple clamp right below the steering was tighten up and now the sound totally disappear.....
I too have this problem, but mech at service center is clue less about it. When I insisted to tighten the steering adjustment nut below the steering, they said it is time consuming since they will need to unscrew handle bar for this bike.
Did anyone else get this sound rectified on their bike. If so, please share the process.

Hey....I am getting this problem again. Mechanic tighten up the bolt and sound disappear for two days after that it appears now and also getting some vibration on handlebar while shifting gears from 2nd to 3rd. it is very irritating because whole bike running smoothly except for this mentioned thing.Originally posted by Endurance View PostHi, did the handle need to be unscrewed for this process?

My initial guess is that tapered roller bearing is damaged at lower portion of steering clamp.
Also i went through the dealer and they replied in very lazy manner that "itna to har koi bike aavaz aata hi hai". So i am very disappointed with hero service center guys.
Don't know what is the solution but i have to look at myself into this matter and will try to open up the steering assembly and check each and every bearing than after i can conclude..........

Exactly my problem too. Except that irritating 'thud' kind of noise every thing else is superb.Originally posted by Nilay View Postit is very irritating because whole bike running smoothly except for this mentioned thing.

And the dealership is acting similar here too, they say that if that steering adjustment nut ( it has notches and located at lower part of steering) is too tightened, noise may go but steering becomes tighter.
Though I didn't believe them, my previous Yamaha had this problem too. No matter how many times I got it tightened the sound used to reapper. But didn't do any harm , so I think it is ok if we can live with it.

I also has yamaha rx-135 in its 12 years of age and it does not have this problem at once. But i had same problem with my Bullet machismo and when i replaced the steering cone, the sound was disappear and bike running smoothly.Originally posted by Endurance View PostExactly my problem too. I dont think that this is ok for impulse because it has another technical defect with gear ratio. There is a huge gap between 1st and 2nd gear and you have to rev hard in 1st gear to neglect that gap before shift to 2nd gear and if you dont rev hard then bike has some crank vibration deliver through handlebar and if your steering assembly is loose then those vibration becomes even harsh.......
If Hero officials are listening to this post i want their answer.......

Okay, then I will pester the service guys to look into steering sound issue more seriously.Originally posted by Nilay View PostThere is a huge gap between 1st and 2nd gear and you have to rev hard in 1st gear to neglect that gap before shift to 2nd gear and if you dont rev hard then bike has some crank vibration deliver through handlebar
And to the gap between 1st and 2nd gear ratios, I think that is not a defect but side effect of design. I don't recollect exact figure, but remember first gear ratio > 3. Whereas second is 1.8 something. And, maybe, the intent is that the torquey first gear will be of good use during offroading. Also, peak torque arriving at 5000 rpm while bike redlines at 8k also is not so highway friendly.
But being a dual sport, I think it is an ok compromise.

I too got the same answer from Fortpoint Service center Mahim ""itna to har koi bike aavaz karti hi hai, ZMR bhi karti hai".Originally posted by Nilay View PostHey....I am getting this problem again. Have anyone figured out how to support the bike when a tyre is removed for repairing puncture? I enquired about the paddock stand at spares but they couldn't take an order as part numbers are not available.
But even then, paddock will be helpful at home only. What if we need repair punctures while on a ride?

i guess we will have to hunt for wooden log or tree bark pieces before we take the tire off..Vehicles Owned/Previously Owned

Yesterday I rode my bike for 200 km with 90-100 Kmph and achieved the top wake of 110 kmph with my genuine 95 kg weight. It returned 28.45 kmpl of fuel efficiency for whole trip.
I also found that this bike is not suitable for highway cruising because of lack of top end power though it reaches the 90 kmph effortlessly, after that it delays to reach its top speed.
My personal feeling is that Hero Motocorp has to launch the aftermarket accessories to bump up the power to around 18 bhp with this engine and the Bigger diameter front suspension for better stability in heavily metal surface road.
