I also found that this bike is not suitable for highway cruising because of lack of top end power though it reaches the 90 kmph effortlessly, after that it delays to reach its top speed.

My personal feeling is that Hero Motocorp has to launch the aftermarket accessories to bump up the power to around 18 bhp with this engine and the Bigger diameter front suspension for better stability in heavily metal surface road.
Mileage of 28 kmpl? Really? A CBR250 gives 35 kmpl on highways.

Am right now using a car jack and a flat wooden peg to lift the rear tire for lubrication/cleaning. May need to carry same on out station trips.

            Same pinch
Did a 440 km round trip (highway, includes ghat and offroad). Max speed I could do is 103kmph ( aided by slope). But on flat roads, the bike takes ages to go beyond 96kmph which it can reach at 7500rpm in 5th gear.
I maintained 80kmph which is achieved at about 6200rpm, at which speed bike is cruising very comfortable and is quite composed at those speeds. Frequently jumped ( didn't brake to slow down) on speed breakers at speeds of 70kmph which came in the villages through which the highway ran. Can't do the same stunt had there been alloy rims instead of the spoke and steel ones.
            Doing 78-80kmph, bike delivered 40kmpl.
I think the 57 teeth rear sprocket is what cuts off the top speed on this bike compared to its 150 siblings. On the plus side, the acceleration upto 90kmph is quite good and inspires confidence.
BTW, on ghats , while I was climbing inclines in fifth gear it occasionally slipped to neutral. Didn't have any problem when I downshifted to 4th or 3rd. I think eventhough bike is still in power band, 5th being overdrive, should not be used for heavy loading.

              • @niks,
Yes it did slip to neutral from 5th. I thought I broke a tooth or two on that gear. But after that incident I did another 200km on plain roads and didn't face such issue again. Looks like on ghats , under load the gear slipped.

                • Sorry for a back to back post, problem with my browser.

To hoist the bike for small maintenance jobs, I improvised the car jack by welding some square tubes to it.
Now, I can raise the bike myself, clean the wheels, chain and lubricate.
Not a very smart solution but does the job. Will post the pics later.

Its hard to believe that such a thing happened. I hope it was just a one off case and won't happen again

                      • i too have had similar experience of dropping of fuel efficiency by quite a good amount at higher speeds,
Just being curious .. is there any way the top whack and fuel consumption be bettered , by changing the sprockets .. etc.. ?? Cos on longer distances the top whack and the average matters a lot... Any suggestions/ideas ??

                        • had got mine on 15th january

i have done around 800Km till now.. mostly city driving.. to-and-fro university (28Km from my home).. i cruise at around 65Kmph @ 5k rpm in 5th gear.. i think i am getting an average of around ~50-51kmpl based on 2 res-to-res odo readings (not a very accurate calculation but i don't fret much about mileage anyways)

                          nevertheless
had my first service done and it cost me 650.. oil+coating.. tht's it

about the 'TUCKKK' sound in the front wheel while the suspension dips, i had my cone and handlebar tightened during the service and the guy said it was just plastic sound of the fairing or the odo setup.. i dunno, i mean it's nothing too serious i guess but one does feel skeptical

general driving feel is awesome.. this bike gobbles up speedbreakers and potholes.. paisa vasool moments when CBR guys have to brake to standstill while approaching breakers but i can thud-thud-thud past by

                          weird problem today
i went to college and in the evening when i checked, the 'service due' indicator was on :O i mean it was not on in the morning.. dunno wht the prob it.. will get it checked..

i have touched a max of 90kmph at the DND expressway once.. i like the acceleration, confidence inspiring during overtaking..
else i am happy cruising at 65 on wide delhi roads with gloves, jacket balaclava & a comfortable helmet.. the ride is as relaxed as, dare i say it, a bullet

the attention this bike gets is annoying sometimes, but well, i guess i had seen it coming

Seems like it is a universal problem with this bike. On a personal note, i prefer to leave it like that rather than get the mech to overtighten it thereby damaging the cone bearings. The steering is to be tightened to specific torque and not just to be overtightened. Unfortunately the svc guys are not that patient enough.

Not a problem but amateurish implementation for service indicator from Hero. As per the manual, I will come on after 550km and will stay on for ever after that. Blinks for the 500 kms service grace period ( 3000-3500, 6000-6500 like that) but stays steady during other times.

There is no other bike on this side of 1 lac that can turn this many heads. Especially many kids come around and complement that bike is 'cool'

                              • me and my wife had a long ride with some tough off roading on my impulse. the story ends with me going down in a water crossing along with my bike. ( wife crossed the water flow by foot and thank god for that) bike had to be carried back in a jeep and now i am cooling my heels with a bad back and my impulse in hero service. will put up a detailed story in the tour thread.
