i too got the delivery yesterday ! I also noticed similar sound ! It actually comes during taking a turn through a pothole or so. It doesnt seem to come while riding straight or else. And the sound feels very plastiky! So lets figure out what the problem is and share !
While going through the manual. I noticed that the tire pressure should be 22/22 psi for single rider and 22/29 for two up ! So dont go by 28/32 as a thumb rule !!
Also the manual says the oil should be 10w30 whereas the SVC guy told me that they put monograde 40 during service and i cant give them oil from my side because they get only 40 oil from the company. This is 'fort point motors' IN mahim mumbai
    Please advice.

    • Even I got mine yesterday from "Fort Point" Mahim. On close inspection, I found out that there were a few scratches on the head light fairing, paint was slightly chipped near fuel cap and the tail light was cracked. Avdhut from their workshop got everything replaced from other Impulse and I got to see the chassis and other internals of the bike. Have clicked a few pictures of the bike without head light, tank, seat and tail light. Will try to post them by tonight. Also wanted to confirm if 22/22 psi is good for city riding?

I can confirm you after so much off roading on the bike, there is no sound at all.

        • 1st of all, Congratulations to all the Impulse owners out here!

Saw the bike in flesh today, and man it looks big (as compared to what you think by looking at the pics)! Tall and impressive.
Good for guys like me (6' +)

          Enjoy the imPulse!
Suggesting my friends to go for it!

            • Congrats, Impulse owners. I have a question for you all.
How effective is the heat shield? Does it get really hot after riding for an hour or so? Can a saddle bag be used on the Impulse without any issues?

Heat shield by the rear seat is very effective. Gets only luke warm as there is a 1-1.5" gap between the exhaust and the shield. I have not been brave enough to touch the heat sheild by the engine..

yes the heat shield is very effective.. after 32Km of riding, i touched it out of curiosity lol it was cold.. the black piping is at a good distance.. and pillion also didnt notice any heat

in the morning the bike doesn't start after many kicks, i have to use choke.. is it normal? also the engine does shut off (quite occasionally) while in 0 throttle+clutch at 2nd, 1st gear.. with a 'plop' sound..
i am new to all this... kinda freaks me out

this is my first bike ever, can anyone hook me up with a 'beginners' guide' or something like that for basic stuff.. thanks

yes agree to it. The engine does take time starting with the kick. We need to kick it many times. And use the choke! But after it warms up it settles down. May be the engine idling is set slow or may be the spark plug temperature is not correct. Lets see after running in the bike properly and then decide.

                      • d-man & southpaw: Why don't you use the electric start? You paid for it.. My bike starts up with half a push of the button in the mornings. Unless I turn off the petrol. If I turn off the petrol over night and turn it back on in the morning, then I have to crank it a little more. Never felt the need to use the choke.

Yes, the engine does go off occasionally when cold.

                            • query on head lamp effectiveness

                              Hi forum members,

I joined the forum just today. I am looking to buy Impulse and the factors the prompted me to go for it are:
                              1. Comfort-in short test rides I took, the bike carpeted virtual everything that came in its way.
2.Go any where capability. I am not a spead freak- comfortable with 70 kmph on highways. Major use is in city only where the streets are all generously studded with pot holes and huge 'back'breakers.
                              3. Pillion riding is not essential . I take car when I go out with family.

My current bike is a 9 year old yamaha libero, on which I clocked 60K kms. This bike never broke down and I have ridden it on good roads, rough roads, bad roads, no roads and everywhere else a bike can go( once even on rail track ). The bike itself is a road bike but given my nature of using the bike in such ways, I thought Impulse fits me perfectly.

However, one thing that neither my test rides nor reviews help me to understand is the effectiveness of the bikes head light.
Esp with the front mud guard so close to the head lamp, did any of the new owners of impulse find it casting shadow in the path of the head light beam? Also do we have any provision to adjust focus of the light beam. In other roadbikes with fairing there is usually some screw to adjust the focus.
Also are the electricals dc type (like that of pulsars) or old school a/c based?

I don't see any shadow and the headlight is quite bright and effective. To adjust the headlight, there is a screw below the light which can be accessed easily with no need to remove any parts. It does not change the "focus" of the light but the angle of the beam.

Headlight runs off the alternator -- which means that it does dim when the engine revs slow. However, the Impulse has a passing light switch which runs off the battery and can the high beam can be flashed if necessary.

PS: this bike is designed by Honda. So I am counting on it to be designed and put together well. So far, I have not been disappointed. However, my main complaint would be lack of a kill switch
