The only problem that's bugging me from the day i bought this bike is the tires and tire pressure I ride more than a 50kms a day. The recommended tire pressure is 25/32 solo and 25/36 with pillion. I always fill it up till 36 coz mostly for short distances i'll have a pillion rider. Problem is it goes down real fast. Every morning I've to check the pressure there will be 2 to 3 points less every day even if i ride the bike or just keep it in the garage. and it happens to both tires. Anybody else facing the same problem ? or is it natural. I always fill petrol and air from the same petrol bunk.. so their equipments are not faulty! Help me fellow commuters!

when do you fill up your tyres?? if you do it after riding a bit then its been always under-filled (after riding, tyres become hot/warm because of that air pressure inside tyre increases) . because what manufacturer recommends is at "cold temperatures" which means without riding your bike, first time in morning, bike kept/parked under shed, preferably in a garage.
but after a week or so 2-3 PSI decrease can be considered normal.

But it effortlessly goes from 40 to 70. which is really needed for a commuter bike but after that the bike looks like its out of breath. But a twist of throttle can easily make it go beyond 80.
doesnt look like a issue to me. Actually 4th gear is pretty tall and it can take you upto 90kmph. but 80 to 90 will be in a slow motion timing. wont recommend you going beyond 80 (for sustained period of time)
P.S. have seen a star city doing 95 constantly, that too with tripple load (though skiny people)

Well i cannot fill up tires from my garage a trip to the petrol bunk 1km away is inevitable. I have to check tire pressures everyday now. When i took it to the service center last time the guy said its perfectly alright! Will make them do it again when i go for the second service.

Yes! you're right 4gear is realllllly tall i took her till 90 for the first time and with a lot of vibrations I weigh just 65 so I'm kinda scared! and i've changed the way i up shift now, i used to do
        1gear: 0 -10
        2gear:10-20
        3gear:25-30
        4gear:30-40 and above
I tried 'ripping' it, the 1st gear only allows me to do till 10/15kmph, and 2nd allow to go around 25. what i love is 3gear i was surprised to see how fast it gained speed when i put it in 3rd and gave throttle wow! it easily went till 50! . Is there any harm in doing this?

shifting pattern is ok. Though you should not regularly rip it, specially in first 2 gears. It won't be good on the long run (of course engine should be warmed up prior to doing it all)
            .
About tyre pressure, buy yourself a good tyre pressure gauge. And fill your front tyre by 5 psi extra and for the rear fill in 10 psi extra, while you are returning home. Next day morning, prior to riding, release extra pressure using the gauge.
Another possibility can be a really small leak may be from the valve or tube itself. But i sincerely think, its because, your riding before filling.

Honda_CBF alright! tyre pressure gauge is on my list! Ya even i don't think its a puncture SC is pretty hi tech so when they said its alright i believed those guys. Thanks a lot for clearing my doubts i really appreciate it!

Is your poor drum brake issue there since new or you found it latter? May be your brakes just need cleaning..
And you should check other star citys for difference in braking power too. No difference = No problem and vice versa.

Ya.. those brakes need cleaning. last service i got it cleaned and was going smooth but now the free play and also the breaking distance have increased. and also day before yesterday at night i was at a signal as usual i switched off the vehicle, when it was time to go to my surprise the self start didn't work, it made some kinda "purrr" sound that's all. I got scared I'm not comfortable with kick starting the engine as i do it only once every morning (Cold start)! i managed to start it and rode home .. I checked again after reaching home and the self start worked. Yesterday morning i was eager to check the self start and again it didn't work the horn, indicators break light were working. Today i took it to the SC and those guys checked the battery and it was ok, but told me that the acid from the battery leaked and it seems it fell on the fuse box/compartment and destroyed it. Idk the battery breather hole was connected to the vent pipe and i'm still wondering how it happened!! . Now its alright got it checked working perfectly, and the guy from the SC told me to open battery compartment and clean it with a cloth next time i wash the bike
and i'm gonna do just that!

you yourself can adjust the brake free play, no big deal. check owner's manual for how to. regarding cleaning, it needs wheel/brake drum and shoes removal so it can be hectic DIY for first timers.

regarding acid spillage, may be the vent pipe was clogged or may be it was twisted, just my guess. and also electrolyte level must be maintained upto max level, never above that. mechanics many times tend to fill it upto brim.
and shift to maintenece free battery next time when you change it. they last long, no/less maintenence, longer warranty, no deposits formation are the pros and only con is little higher cost. which is worth I think

I've seen my battery .. its filled to the brim. oh and i can use a maintenance free battery in my bike? VRLA battery right? When i had kinetic honda with me i wanted a maintenance free battery for it but the owner of the battery shop told me that it wouldn't support it.For the TVS I'll have to check with the SC guys even i like putting a VRLA battery in my bike.. hassle free! and I'm not a DIY type i strongly believe that i'll ruin it.. ^ no there's no support thingy with battery. Just match the AH rating or use little higher AH one. No problem.
P.s. Using 9 AH amaron MF battery on my kinetic Honda from last one year. Didn't even looked at it after fitting.
VRLA/ MF/ LOW Maintenance etc are different names with different technologies under different price range. But one thing is common. Hassle free. Low maintenance battery is the cheapest type and may need adding water, may be like once in a year or two.

The day i got the fuse changed, that evening my self start didn't work. and for the first time i took out the fuse box. It was in a very bad condition it was destroyed due to the acid leakage from the battery completely gone! I called up the SC guys and asked about it. Last time they said they changed it but actually a new fuse box was not in stock so they somehow kept the old one connected, They apologized and asked me to bring that bike down there. I went today and asked them to change it, fuse box costs Rs.51 including 2 new extra fuses. They drained excess liquid from that battery and now its working perfectly. 2284 kms on the odo next service on 2500kms.

                              Wish you happy miles ahead.

                                Battery Problem

                                Hello Ash_win
                                I Bought my RTR 180 on 15th Feb 2010.
till 2nd service everything was in good condition
but for 3rd servicing when SC guys open Battery side it was all gone by Acid as I am from Mumbai RUST got UP so Fast Than I was thinking since then I am taking care of my main RTR 180 frame & Battery side all metal parts repainting them every 6 months now I am about to book Star City in next Few Days (Green or Sliver Stickers Confused Lets see) Its very interesting that everybody is talking the same issue, What i am gonna do is simple the moment you get you hand on Brand Bike Replace the battery with AMRON Maintenance free battery from proper authorized dealer, (check on there website for your best matching type) for Star City 2012 it's 12 Volts & just learn how they fix new battery & remove your Old One Next time when you visit the showroom Replace battery given by them & enter the service center, so you simply maintain your Warranty & don't harm your bike chassis with those stupid battery problems.this is the only way I think we can do to save frame, colour, Chassis, RUST, & problems of some white white things on battery in Monsoon Season.Or Else Be Good Friend With Garage Guy give some 50-100 rs. for chai paani

Thank you I hope this will help need to recheck with service guy if you change the battery as soon as you come out of showroom & use its charge as portable home charger for mobile HIHIHIHIHIH

BTW: do you have mobile charging point behind your Front Left Indicator?
                                IF YES PLS UPLOAD PHOTOS
its good thing to have mobile charger on BIKE
