Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
I am little confused here. I asked this to RE Sales person about swapping Classic's stock exhaust with the bent one...he said 3000 (not swapping from CL to TB). Does this means we have an option to pay extra for exhaust and change them at the time of delivery; and this we can do with Thunderbirds too now ?Originally posted by mountaintrekker.india View PostIt would cost around Rs. 2200/-. Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
After 8 days of complete rest, my Blue Bird electric-started at the first crank itself this evening.
She will be going to the company-owned service station on 18 July 2013 for the second free service.

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Today, my Blue Bird got her second free servicing done at the company-owned service centre, OMR, Chennai, after completion of 3 months and 2460 km. There was no complaint from my side. I was not charged as there was no oil change involved.Originally posted by J.Ravi View PostShe will be going to the company-owned service station on 18 July 2013 for the second free service.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first service: 9 am to 12:15 pm.Originally posted by TranquilRageHow much time did they finish their service in? Both 1st and 2nd?
The second service: 9:30 am to 2:45 pm [There were lots of bulls; hence, I couldn't get it before their lunch break, which is 1 to 2 pm]. On both the occasions, I rode in my Blue Bird without prior appointment.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
The service started at 10 am or so, I think. But, there was a big queue for washing, test-ride, etc. Hence, the delay.Originally posted by TranquilRageSo from your second service, if it started after 2
If there is no queue, then, 2 hours per bike.I assume they normally service one bike in 45mins to an hour?---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Stray cats freely roam around my Chennai home. Recently, one such cat managed to climb on to my Blue Bird's rider seat and slept during a rainy night resulting in some some minor damage to the seat.
After that incident, my Blue Bird remains covered, when not flying.

Hi Ravi,
The same used to happen to my Apache earlier... it got so worse, I had to get the seat cover changed
Worse, I got to see a rat hiding under the seat too

Royal Enfield To Replace Petrol Tank
A few weeks back while having petrol, I observed peeling off of the coating of the inside of my Blue Bird's petrol tank. When I rubbed my finger on the surface of the petrol tank's mouth, a layer of the coating came out along with my finger.
When my Blue Bird went to the company-owned service centre, OMR, Chennai, for the second free service on 18 July 2013, I witnessed the security guy checking the fuel levels of all Royal Enfields by dipping a scale. I saw all the petrol tanks of all other bikes were clean and neat without any signs of peeling off of coating. Why is that coating on the inside of my Thunderbird 500's petrol tank only peeling off, when others' are clean and neat? The service advisors did not have any answers for my query and consoled me not to worry. Unfortunately, the service manager was not available on that day. I made them mention it in the job card. I was told that they took some photographs of the petrol tank, they would discuss it with the service manager and I would be contacted later. I waited for 5 days. I did not get any call from anybody.
Yesterday morning, I sent a detailed email to Royal Enfield customer service enclosing these photographs and raising a few questions. Within hours, I got the response from them stating that the service manager would contact me. The service manager called me today and assured me that my Thunderbird 500 Twilight would get a new petrol tank within 7 working days as it was out of stock in the service centre. Now, I keep my fingers crossed hoping that the new tank would be free from the problem of coating peeling off.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
Onwer's manuals of both my Thunderbird 500 and my son's Classic 500 recommend electric start only. I also use electric start only. However, whenever I tried kick starting, my Thunderbird 500 starts in the first kick itself. I too use my Thunderbird 500 once or twice in a week. So far, I have not faced any battery-draining problem.Originally posted by npawar View Postany recommendation in starting the bike in the morning using kicker instead of switch start ?Last edited by J.Ravi; 07-24-2013, 09:17 PM.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500
I had enquired recently in RE showroom in Shimoga about TB 350, and it had a custom silencer fitted. The store manager told me its a "Beat" silencer and will cost about Rs. 2500.
The sound of the TB was nice, but on the higher side.
Right now waiting for delivery of my 'bird. Will enquire again and give details.
