20w50 grades should be kept aside if we talk about Discover 100 as the recommended grade is 20w40. It holds good for pulsars as their recommended grade is 20w50.

I recommend 10w50 in my previous post as the viscosity at working temperature is more or less same as 20w40 grade. Infact 10w grade will give hassle free coldstarts and 50 grade will give superior protection to engine. This oil has highest Viscosity Index on spec sheet. The main reason why it lasts so long.

I have even tried motul 5100 15w50. Its feels buttersmooth but somewhat heavier, not good for engines at early stage.

Oh sorry didn't knew discover had itself assigned w40 as grade.
      So guys don't but 3100 ,instead buy motul 3000 ,Its 20w40 .
And yes ,never ever change the grade after w .that is w40 .
Use lower pre grade in winters, that is 15w40 or 10w40.
Use higher pre grade in summers ,that is 20w40.
Don't use 5100,7100,etc .not worth the money to spend on 100cc bike.
Instead use mineral oil ,ex motul 3000 that costs less than 300 ,change it at 3k intervals. It'll be better than buying 500-700₹ oil and then using it for 4-5k kms.

        Re: Discover 100 DTSi

If you guys dont mind experimenting with Diesel oils, I would recommend the Shell Rimula R4. Used it last time and it held exceptionally well from Kollam to Salem and I didnt take much breaks, only one smoke break at Thirumangalam. Comparing with Shell AX7 which is also good, the R4 holds up better on continuous runs. But I cant comment on the longevity cause after Salem some 40kms to Bangalore bike got hydrolocked and the oil got contaminated with water and got emulsified, and I ended up changing it at 810kms.

So this would be my final update with respect to my Discover 100, I rode it back to Kerala on the same Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40, and she was running fine, took the Thirumangalam route and it was decent. Had visibility issues at some poorly illuminated areas. Other than that everything was fine, the next day rode around for some kms in my home town, and surprisingly the new rear tire had also started loosing air. But everything was fine, the bike had done a total of 16,100 kms in 1 year and 2 months, mainly because I seldom used it and most of the use was limited to trips and KL-KA runs. Anyways, later on I went to the Bajaj shop and exchanged my Discover 100 for a P220. The SVC people were surprised on inspection, the bike was as good as new, except for the three month dirt accumulation from being idle in my hostel parking lot. They inspected the engine and the electrical's after which they fixed an exchange price, which I believe was fairly low, but since that was the best price they've ever offered and because I didnt have much time to spend there, I obliged and the transaction was completed.

            Congrats bro!!
So, here you end your journey with D100. Now you have realized the need of power on highways. P220 will serve the purpose well. Bajaj again, becoming fan?
Btw how much resale value they settled for it.

Not power, but better lighting. As far as performance goes it's mostly similar. Both does 80~85kmph and does my 750~800kms run in 1.1~1.5k rupees at those speeds. But I have to agree the strain is greatly reduced on the P220., but still the D100 is way way more refined than the P220.

The D100 has made me a hardcore Bajaj fan, and it's going to be Bajaj for life.
