  • Re: TVS Jupiter Owners Review and Experience

    Another TVS enters home.

Based on the experience with the Jupiter and my previous Streak, it was decided to get a TVS Scooty Pep+ as the distance traveled will be less than 200 Kms a month.

We booked Pep+ and just a day before registration shifted the booking to Zest 110 and got it delivered last week.

I would have purchased Streak if TVS did not stop the production. My Streak is still going strong in the 7th year(with my relative)

I am updating this in Jupiter thread as both the Zest and Jupiter shares the same engine. I will be using the bike till the first service. Don't want to open a new thread as I wont update the thread after first service.

    First the Negatives:

    Very hard seats.
Flimsy seat joints. Feels like breaking when lifted to access under seat storage.
    Breaks not inspiring

    The Good:

Awesome throw of light in both low and high beams (Will win over most of the 150 CC bikes.).
Power to Weight ratio resulting in increased pickup. Can easily touch 50KMPH without you noticing. Jupiter on the other hand takes time to reach 50KMPH mark.
Front storage space is decent and the quality of plastic is also acceptable.
Clearly readable speedo markings and clear display
Good rear visibility in the mirrors.
    USB Charger
Broad tubeless tires for additional comfort(90 mm wide and 90 mm sidewall height).
Telescopic forks (compared to ones used in Dio and Activa)
Comes with factory fitted pillion foot rest, side stand and number plates (These are additional accessories in Dio or even my Gusto for that matter !)

Completed 330 Kms in last 5 days and the average per KM comes to 55+. Rode between the 40 and 50 KM mark and touched 60 twice to overtake big vehicles.
No vibrations but engine grinding noise in the 35-45 KMPH mark which is similar to our Jupiter. !!

I would suggest this vehicle who are looking for a light weight vehicle and also a reliable engine.

Dear gopi_xbh, I am waiting for your review. Please review your latest new TVS Jupiter Disc Brake variant 2017 BS-IV and also please share high-quality Pics especially front disc brake and combi brake wires (if available). And Please clear my some doubts.

Q1. I know that all drum brake variants of TVS Jupiter (standard and ZX) have combi brakes but what about Jupiter Disc Brake variant? Does new 2017 Disc Brake variant of TVS Jupiter also have combi brakes (Sync Braking System) like in Honda Activa 125 disc brake variant? Does it have two combi brake wires attached to front disc brake calliper or any sync brakes logo in front???
I have read on the internet that Indian Govt. have made COMBI BRAKING SYSTEM (CBS), BS-IV norms Engine & Automatic Headlight ON (AHO) feature mandatory in all two wheelers from 1 April 2017. Currently, TVS Jupiter DISC BRAKE variants (2016 models) have no combi brakes. But after April 2017, will TVS Jupiter Disc Brake variants also get combi brakes (sync braking system) like in Honda Activa 125 Disc brake variant???

Q2. I have one more Question, will disc brake variant of Jupiter got new colours in this summer (May or June 2017) because I will buy Jupiter Disc brake variant in this summer but I don't like the purple colour.

Q3. Is there any engine specs changes like bhp@rpm and torque@rpm etc.

      Anybody can answer, please.

Almost 400(200+200 to and fro) kms ride to see Olive Ridley turtles laying eggs.
Scooter performed well with bigger bikes. Constant 70-80 kmph.
Ride started at 8:00 in night. Not much ride pics.
Reached the spot around 12:00 am in night after having a long dinner break.

Though we were almost 2 weeks late from the breeding season, we still got to see some turtles(with torches in pitch dark beach) in and around. Slept on an abandoned boat on the beach. Rode back next morning at 5:00.

How to keep bike / car scratch free

          Dear Friends,
I am really pissed off with People and ASC staff who doesn’t take care with your vehicle. I have a TVS Jupiter and during the last service they had scratches on my tail light cluster, which I got replaced after complaining to TVS. The TVS Showroom / Service Centre has the workshop upstairs / downstairs and a steep ramp is only there with turns like stairs do have. Many times its close call for the mechanics to not to brush against the wall or corners. I am talking about Sathya TVS in Tambaram. Due to less commercial space availability the design of the service centre itself is a threat to scratch / damage the vehicle, if the mechanic is not care ful, and which mechanic will be careful when dealing with work pressure , and servicing 100+ vehicles daily.
This time while taking my bike from service (recently yesterday 06 May 2017) I noticed a scratch about an inch long right above the petrol tank lid. I am unsure whether this scratch was from beginning only or happened at the ASC. When queried the ASC People, they mentioned that the scratch must be from beginning only and at ASC there is only possibility of scratches getting done on corners. I didn’t wanted to argue much with them and left from there. But it looks bad on my new vehicle (1 year).
How do car / bike owners manage to keep their bikes / cars spot / scratch free even after so many years. My office has got secured parking and even home also. While shopping or going out sometimes I have to keep my bike on roads / unsecured places like beach wherein lot of people leave ./ take their two wheelers or big superstores. To avoid scratches I cant just avoid taking my bike out. If I get minor scratches how to cover them up? Is there a DIY mentioned. Do the scratch pens work well?
Or n a totally different note should I just get small pieces of red decals and paste them as my bike is red in color?

          Advise me please.

Why no front number plate? Did you ride a brand new bike at 70-80 Kmph speed?

LOL. Scooters are very much prone to scratches every now and the. Reason why I chose silver- the colour hides dusts and scratches more than any other colour.

No Mine is a >2 years/30K kms old scooter. Couple of months back, due to an accident, front panel with no plate were damaged. Havnt put the no plate since then. Will put one soon.

Next drain and check the gear oil, you should be able to drain out around 100ml. Refill fresh oil.
Next get the valve clearances checked and adjusted to spec.
Then have them check the carburetor.. If possible try to get a new float assembly, it's that plastic thingy in the carb that prevents flooding of carb. And make sure the hoses that go from carb- engine-pcv-airfilter etc. are all in good condition. This includes the vacuum hose/pcv(or the pollution pipe as some locally call it).
Finally, if possible ask them to swap the cdi unit and ignition coil with one from a properly working bike and check.
Please get it checked by a reputed scooter mech or at the svc.
I am not able to locate the transmission oil drain nut.. Will you help me on this?

i don't own a jupiter.. but i did a quick google search and came across the owners manual https://www.tvsmotor.com/pdf/Manuals-TVS-Jupiter.pdf (see pg 35)
it shows the transmission oil inspection bolt (usually there are two bolts, one for draining and one for checking level/filling oil).. but i see no mention of the drain bolt.
the transmission oil inspection & filling hole (bolt) is located on the left side, just above the rear brake cam & parallel to the ground
the drain bolt position is not mentioned in the manual, but it probably is placed below in that same area and maybe the bolt which is perpendicular to the ground (the one above the rear brake cable/adjusting nut)

maybe another jupiter owner can give you the exact location of the transmission oil drain nut.

I bought tvs wego from sathya tvs, tambaram 2 months ago. now after the first service, after a week, I spotted that the speedometer transparent panel, rear tail lamp and indicator lamps are broken and contacted the showroom people as I don't hit the vehicle anywhere and I'm taking proper care of my vehicle. they told that this is a common issue occurring in the scooter and they promised me to replace them once the stock arrives at them. when asked about why it develops cracks, they told that it is a Fibre part, not metal, so it tends to crack due to the high temperature in these summer days. hope they change the parts as soon as possible.

if you scroll in this thread, you will find my email to TVS. Dont keep things verbal. Shoot an email to TVS. This I learnt that when i bought my first bike in 2006 (Hero Honda). The dealer people were very lazy and I sent email to Hero Honda, immediately the supervisor called me and sorted the issue. Mr. Pandian is the supervisor, but it is better that you write email to TVS. Even my bike will complete one year in 10 May 2017 and i recently did my 5 last free service. Even in my bike there are scratches on speedometer glass and they tell its fibre. We should write this to TVS.

How is the digital speedometer of wego? is it good?

TVS Jupiter Review 01 Year 10000 Kms .

                        Hi friends,

I bought my TVS Jupiter on 10 May 2017 and very soon it will be 1 year. I have finished my 5 free services and the vehicle has run 10000 kms. Just today the vehicle crossed the 10K kms mark. The photos taken are after two days of use after service. Little dust is on the body from usage. Photo link is here:
TVS JUPITER MAY 2017 - Album on Imgur
My first own vehicle was a scooty and then a bike. From past 8 years I have been driving a bike only and it was very uncomfortable to carry huge loads, or buy some groceries / vegetables while way home. In bike I had to bear all weight of luggage on my shoulders & back (backpack) I was looking for a good commuter to travel to office 25 kms one way in traffic conditions (metro city Chennai) and lots of luggage space to store groceries / vegetables etc. As I am working and earning good I was not concerned about the mileage and wanted my comfort more over the economy factor. Apart from the first scariness of heating of under seat storage this bike has not given me any problem. I am the only user of the scooter and I drive very cautiously. Mileage ranges from 48-52 kmpl depending on various conditions.
It is a very good commuter bike, pickup is good, and can store a lot of luggage, both in front near leg, and in underseat storage. In traffic you can drive without tension of changing gears and using clutch Overall I feel I made a good decision to buy the TVS Jupiter.
As mentioned by other members there is cracking of glass of my TVS Jupiter speedometer glass. When it is very clean we can see scratches, which the dealer is telling is because of quality of fibre. Apart from that the Vehicle is sturdy and has all good features. Pass switch is very useful. I have to yet to undertake a long ride in this bike. Planning to go to Pondy or Mahabs one day and stay over the weekend.

Just wanted to know how the carb tuning works. Picture attached is the carb on the TVS jupiter (top view)

                            Marked Red: Fuel Screw
Turned clockwise reduces fuel making it run lean and Anticlockwise makes it run richer.

                            Marked Green: Idle screw
Changes the way the engine idles, rich / lean idle.

                            Is this assumption right?

If i were to get a bit more power out of the scooter, what would be the best way?

Please let me know if there are oversize pistons available for the jupiters block and if it shares the block and piston with any other scooter/bike.

My mechanic said that best bore to 150cc which would be approx 4th oversize?

Upgrades are restricted to engine, fueling and exhaust system.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.
