    Background:

My ride till work is 10kms. The whole route takes me upto 90 mins with bumper to bumper traffic and unlimited potholes. The whole scooty weighs around 160KG incl my pillion both ways.

    Main Issue:

One same problem in last 3 months for atleast 6 times--

    1. My scooty is running normally, we have run around 7-8kms of the route (once 4km, once 2km) the traffic is ok, I'm riding at 30-40KMPH max and suddenly scooty looses power, I get no jerk and the ignition is trying to maintain itself and within 10 meters the ignition is off.
My petrol tank is always more than half full

    2. The scooty is for today running but with a drag like it's coming back and slowing down. 30KMPH is the maximum speed post which I feel it will give up and it's also become a phobia that it will stop and again.

    Here's what I do:

    1. Now I try to start it a few times but it won't start and I know it won't 'cos it's now a regular affair.
Just once the scooty started (last week) and the ignition stays but when I try to accelerate, there is no response and the ignition is off.

    2. I drag it to the nearest roadside mechanic. The guy checks the pipes for leakage or proper fuel flow and if they're fine, he checks the spark plug for the blue spark and all that.
He would change the carburetor setting, high low and he would try just everything and it would end up starting and again in 10 days same issue.

    3. But last week 3 mechanics could not start the scooty even after cleaning the whole carburetor. In heavy Mumbai rains I was dragging my scooty from one guy to another.

    4. Finally a young mech kept it for a while and I left for office. Later he called and told me 'Air ka problem tha, Jupiter ka air clean nahi karte kyunki body kholni padti hai'
I know in Jupiter the air cleaner is supposed to be replaced every 12K kms and never cleaned.

    Question:

What is happening? I have made a 300km + & return Gujarat tour twice on this TVS Jupiter with no issues at all with constant 70KMPH.

    Scooty condition: POOR

    1. It's a Sept 2014 model and only 4100kms run. For 4-6 months the scooty remains in the parking then I use it for 4-6 months and the routine continues.

    2. I use regular Castrol engine oil and have never replaced anything inside except the pipes time and again.
Servicing is done by local mech only every time I want to use it for a while.

    3. The manual says replace Air filter cvt filter element and spark plug at 12K kms or 12 months.

PLEASE HELP! What to do :'(
Dude, 2 years without changing the Air filter and spark plug is a very bad idea, especially when the bike isnt running. You might also need a carburetor cleaning now, as it might have clogged. Why are you not servicing in Authorised service? How will you claim warranty?
Also from now on, tell some one to start the engine in main stand and keep it idle for 15 mins, once every week.

Sambit, my carburetor is cleaned n number of times in last few months. Every time the scooty is stalled, the mechanics would clean the carb in and out. Plus the SC is far away so I don't go there.

For what I understand, I think the low power or drag issue is cos of either the transmission Patti or gearbox or valve clearance. What do you think?

I have no idea. Scooter experts can help here. Just once take it to the autherised service. Must be a minor problem.

        • Drag while riding in TVS Jupiter

Hi guys, off late I have felt a drag in TVS Jupiter in such a way that the bikes gets very difficult to ride above 40KMPH and starts to push itself back.
Once I rode a little rough in the drag and the bike just stopped and started after some carburettor jugad by a local mechanic.

Before I show it to the SC, what do you think the problem is? I have changed all 3 air filters and spark plug thinking it will help but the drag is still there.

P.S. My scootys silencer pipe was cut in between and was welded a few months back.

I'm experimenting with headlights on my Jupiter (Bought Aug 2016, Stallion Brown, 900km clocked).
The default Phoenix HS1 35W/35W seemed too low for my taste.

First I went with OSRAM HS1 Silver Star 35W/35W which was a good experience and easily offered 30-40% more light compared to the stock one. Much recommended for everyone who want to keep it as stock as possible.

After using it for a few days I carried forward and got myself a Bosch 55W/60W H4 halogen bulb (Yes, HS1 socket can take in H4 bulbs).
I'd say they are at another level of brightness, easily illuminating the night. But of course the headlight assembly heats more and I can see the electricals a bit stressed (pilot lamps glow dimmer at low RPM). But I can say that Jupiter easily handles a 55/60 bulb. There is no overheating of headlight assy and no deformation spotted.

Now I have ordered an 20W/20W 2000Lm LED Bulb for my Jupiter. It would arrive in few days. Reviews are super good.

According to the seller this light would take only DC voltage. I assume that Jupiter directly feeds alternator AC supply (regulated) to headlight.

If this is the case (Correct me if I'm wrong) I'd need to convert electricals to DC. How much would a mechanic charge for this?
Also I'm thinking of making a simple bridge rectifier + large electrolytic capacitor as a cheaper way to feed my new bulb.

            Thoughts really appreciated.

                  +1

I too share the same opinion. Rear suspension is hard for single rider and just perfect with a pillion.

I would suggest you get a complete inspection of the drive train i.e. Open the left side case and check all components such as drive belt, variator/rollers, clutch shoes, Springs. Replace if any of them are damaged.. They usually last atleast 15k km.
Next drain and check the gear oil, you should be able to drain out around 100ml. Refill fresh oil.
Next get the valve clearances checked and adjusted to spec.
Then have them check the carburetor.. If possible try to get a new float assembly, it's that plastic thingy in the carb that prevents flooding of carb. And make sure the hoses that go from carb- engine-pcv-airfilter etc. are all in good condition. This includes the vacuum hose/pcv(or the pollution pipe as some locally call it).
Finally, if possible ask them to swap the cdi unit and ignition coil with one from a properly working bike and check.
Please get it checked by a reputed scooter mech or at the svc.

                      Hi all,
Have a query. I am running in my sister-in-law's Jupiter which has done 600 kms on the odo. As per the manual it says to keep speeds below 50 kmph for 1000 kms. As per the directions from the company notifications and sc it has to be below 40 kmph for 1000 kms. Its a pain to ride on the highway below 40 kmph. What is the correct running in procedure of the scoot

Pull the throttle gradually, ride at 50 kmph max. sometimes its ok to go more. But dont do it frequently. You have already crossed 600 kms. wait for only 300-400 more.

So I can move from 40 and keep it contant at 50

Yes, 50 is perfect for the engine and for any bike for that matters. I did the same and its touchwood.

Please check the CDI and the sockets, if electric power is getting supplied properly.
