Re: TVS Jupiter Owners Review and Experience
Jupiter manual says petrol mixed with ethanol will have the impact on engine components, now in every petrol pump it is written 10% ethanol blended petrol. Nothing could be done for this i think.Give your details help a biker stranded in your city.

Re: TVS Jupiter Owners Review and Experience
does the manual mention any % of ethanol as a safe limit ? Just curious.Originally posted by rprathin View PostJupiter manual says petrol mixed with ethanol will have the impact on engine components, now in every petrol pump it is written 10% ethanol blended petrol. iirc my dio's manual did have something that mentioned that running an ethanol blend is safe.
on the other hand, you may want to use 'iftex system g' say once every 3 tankfuls. I've started using it on and off on my dio that's now covered over 50k km and it otherwise ran mostly on the regular pump gas with no issues.
A little test i did : I took a bit of fuel and added a little water to it in a small bottle (you will see two phases since fuel floats on top) and on adding a bit of system g and shaking the bottle, you no longer see the separation.. this might be good to tackle water separation that would occur when using ethanol blended fuel (which is almost all fuel now sold in india)

Re: TVS Jupiter Owners Review and Experience
i see.. it's surprising they don't design/use materials that should be ethanol compatible with at-least the current 10-15% blends which is what is most of the fuel sold in India and a few other countries too.Originally posted by rprathin View PostNo the manual just says "ethanol blended petrol will have impact on engine components"

Re: TVS Jupiter Owners Review and Experience
Booked a TVS Jupiter for my Brother in-law. Getting the bike this Friday.
I will be using the bike at least for the first 1000 Kms.
Anything to keep in mind during the running-in ?
I was so confused between the Gusto & Jupiter. Also considered Maestro Edge (Only Indian-made brands considered).
Gusto top variant was priced 62000 On-Road Chennai including complete set of accessories(Offer: 1000 discount on total amount or 5000 Cashback to paytm wallet if booked via paytm).
Jupiter was priced 63750 on-road (including accessories)
Based on my observations
Gusto:
+
Height adjustable seat
Flip key with find me lamp & Torch
Guide me lamp
Small storage below the speedometer
Highest Ground clearance
Good seating position(similar to Aviator)
Good response for all queries from Mahindra Service center
12 inch wheels (steel)
6.5 Litre Fuel tank as said by Service center guys against the 6 L updated in the website.
-
Availability of Spares in local shops
2 years warranty on engine
Mileage indicated in the website was 63.xxKMPL but the service center guys told I will get an average of 50.
Under seat storage cannot accommodate big helmets.
Need to open the under seat storage to refuel.
Jupiter:
+
External Fuel filling
Decent under seat storage
12 inch wheels (Alloy)
Trouble free ownership of having a TVS for last 5 years
Availability of Spares.
Total of 5 years Engine Warranty offered for just Rs.350 (includes in on-road price)
My bike mechanic was pushing me for Jupiter (TVS organized a 2 day training even for local road side mechanics to service the Jupiter). I am not sure if any company will promote bikes such way.

Service center
Pathetic support by service personnel. No one was interested to attend after being in the showroom for almost 10 mins. I was the only customer that day !!
NO discounts what so ever. Take it or leave it attitude.
5 Litre Fuel tank
Ground clearance
Maestro Edge:
+ve
Not sure.
-ve
Rear wheel is of 10 Inch against the 12 inch front wheel.
Service center: End of 2014: I went to nearest service center to get a quote for Hero Achiever. Got a shocking answer. "There is no Bike called Achiever in Hero saaaar"
Got the same reply when I asked about Maestro Edge this Monday
My bro in-law was using my wive's Activa for some months now. Crashed badly, crushed his hands and is almost not using bike for 6 months. His only concern was lifting the bike's seat for fueling + storing an helmet in the under seat storage.
Found that most of the Gusto's +ve's are just a "Want" and not a "Need". So Dropped Gusto.
Will ride around sometime over the weekend and update.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade

Got the bike registered on Friday & delivered on Saturday Morning.Originally posted by BlackPanther View Post

....................
Will ride around sometime over the weekend and update.
Completed 100 KMS on Sunday.
My First ride experience.
Engine heats up very fast even running less than 2-3 KMS (Heat felt after opening the seat to place the helmet) and should be OK after first service.
"BIKE LIKE" to ride. Comfortable & relaxed ride position.
Good pick-up and can overtake vehicles without much strain.
Did a 30+ km non stop ride and the bike fared well in the 40-50KMPH mark. No pain in wrist / shoulder
Other small and useful features:
Low Fuel indicator (lights up when a minimum of 600ML fuel is left in the tank)
2 helmet hooks under the seat apart from the storage.
After starting the engine, if the bike is stationary for 110 Seconds, the Orange Power light on the meter console starts blinking to warn the user of fuel being wasted.
After coming to a standstill, post 20 seconds, same light starts blinking to switch of the engine.
Request people to test-ride this bike before going for Honda Activa/Aviator. I myself was a big fan of Honda Aviator before riding the Jupiter.
Not so good:
Main stand was bend. Show room guys who took the bike for registration must have hit a speedbreaker badly. This also resulted in paint in engine parts getting peeled when engaging & disengaging the main stand. Notied this only after 100 KMS and demamded for replacement of Stand. Ignored the deep scratches on the engine casing as I do not want the enging casing to be removed so early. Bad on TVS part who did not do a proper inspection before delivery. The polish during the delivery hid the scratches and I also could not find anything.
Grinding engine noice only between 35-40KMPH. This got fixed after the replacement of the stand. Weird.. might be vibration.
As per my instinct, I changed from engine oil at 100 KMS to Castrol Activ Scooter 10w30. Bike will be with me till the first service (750Kms) after which will be handed over to by brother in-law.
Thanks for reading

Re: TVS Jupiter Owners Review and Experience
^^ BlackPanther, congrats on the Jupiter, you will be happy with this shoot & scoot
, whenever I am in India, make it a point to use extensively, the 12" wheels and the front & rear suspension are superior.
Am sure your BIL will be happy with the jupiter.

Covered 716 KMs and completed first service. Was charged RS 275 for Oil change (engine and transmission).
Both Brake drum was cleaned and the engine side cover was removed. Not sure what SC was doing.
Engine grinding noise & vibration on foot between 35- 40 has occurred again. Not completely solved but reduced after the service.
Suspensions are a bit stiffer on bad roads.
Felt lower back paining after riding 120Kms in a day.
Out of the 716 Kms, 350 were driven during the worst rains Chennai hasn't seen in a decade. At some places, the silencer was even submerged. The bike performed very good.
I will definitely like to comment on the breaking and grip.
Awesome breaking during the monsoon. 50 to 0 within few feet on a straight line. Changed the perception I had on TVS tires.
To achieve this, I should use both my hand and foot brakes in my TVS Streak & Activa. LOL.
Bike safely handed over to my brother in law.
My 389xxK run Activa is sold to a close relative and the Streak will be moving soon as well. I have started saving for a new scoot for myself in 2016. It will either be a Wego or Jupiter.Last edited by BlackPanther; 12-01-2015, 12:52 AM.2005 - Hercules MTB Thriller | 2018 - Apollo Evade
