Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
The reason for the snapping was hooked teeth of front sprocket. few links had stiffened too. but after I replaced the chain sprocket set, I tested it with the old sprocket and found out that was the culprit.Originally posted by Sumazure View PostDid you find out the reason for the chain snapping?
At 16k kms my chain started sounding odd. Kind of a muffled sound of some nuts clanking in a rotating metal container. Cleaning up the chain and lubing would give a few days of reduced sound but would be back to the clunky sound in 3-4 days. SVC told to replace the sprocket and chain set together. The teeth of the sprocket were not worn and could have lasted another 5-10k kms. But got them replaced and the chain movement was smooth again. The cause was 2-3 links of the chain had stiffened and were not bending properly when going over the front sprocket. I suspect that might have been the case with you as well. For me as i was doing short city rides the chain wasnt stressed to the extent of snapping.
Also a question to everyone - for long driving stretches across multiple days is it good to clean up the chain lets say every 1000 or so km during the ride itself. Especially if riding in dusty or rainy conditions?
Throughout the trip I lube the chain every day before starting the to ride.

Did you find out the reason for the chain snapping?Originally posted by bobisbacktorock View PostI was returning home from a long extreme monsoon trip. Had ridden over 2300 kms in torrential rains and super bad roads covering Hyderbad - Goa - Amoli - Satara - Mahabaleshwar - Pune - Rajmachi - lonavala - Khandala. On the way back to hyderabad from Pune, after covering 150 kms, my drive chain snapped while I was cruising at 100 kmph.
The chain immediately locked the rear wheel and I went 150 meters sliding (fishtailing the rear wheel). I could manage to contersteer the slide enough to not crash. the bike came to a halt after 150 meters of sliding.
The damages were catastrophic. I had to get the bike toed on two different trolleys (chota haathi type / Ashok Leyland).
PS - The chain had done 24000 kms before this incident. The chain was making horrible noises in the last 200 kms before the mishap.

Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
The oil is Costly than LIQUIMOLY and MOTUL.Originally posted by vanp View Postlet me know your review of the oil in future
i am not sure but yamaha's part quality is really pathetic.. i use motul chain lube to lube the chain at around 500-600 kms.. the noise i have is not tak tak.. it is like a continuous whining noise which starts at around 45kmph.. i feel that maybe the chain is touching the swingarm rubber.. but i have shown at the svc and they said that it is not the case.. but they were not able to solve the issue either.. it is actually our job to search and give them solutions.. at the end they just say we cannot hear any abnormal noise..
i owned the pulsar 180 for 8years.. met with 2 big accidents.. rode around 35k kms.. never lubed the chain.. only at servicing they used to put used engine oil on the chain.. never i felt any abnormal noises from the bike.. and never i had to change the chain
I think its directly imported from japan because the contents written at the back of the can is japanese. Its reddish in colour.

let me know your review of the oil in futureOriginally posted by truelypulsarian View PostToday only finished the 6th free servicing its too early to comment on the oil will update once i cross atleast 500 kms
During the accelerating the chain is producing tak tak noise which is quite distrubing for me it has started from since 1k kms.
According to yamaha service center people thw chain life on the FZ is just 15 K kms. My p220 chain sprockets lasted me for about more than 20K kms. I maintained the chain well cleaning it at every 2K kms with the motul chain clean and lubricating at every 500-800 kms depending upon the usage but it gave up at 15K kms[emoji15] only Strange.
Do u use chain lube for the chain??

what difference do you feel on YAMALUBE RACING GP Fully synthetic oil?Originally posted by truelypulsarian View PostYes i agree with you. Today done with the final 6th free service this time asked them to fill YAMALUBE RACING GP Fully synthetic oil that costed 1,300 Rs this oil is used in the yamaha super bikes like R1 and MT series.
Changed the chain sprocket with new one as the old one is producing irritating noises.
Checked a couple of FZ bikes for the engine noise all most all bikes have this noise problem but sounding frequencies are varied from bike to bike even old FZ’s version 1 are having this noise [emoji15] yes there is no solution for this as this is a manufacturing defect of the engine head[emoji35]

There is no
Permanent solution for this as many Fz owners reported the same.
Vanp & #bpk how are your bikes doing??
