  • re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread

Guys any idea if the Duke/RC 250 launched in Tokyo will replace the 200s in India?

If so any idea about the prices and launch date probabilities?

No matter whose side the debate turns ,but it is true that RC series is not a bike ,It's a track focussed machine.
In my locality, I've seen 3 people purchasing rc and then 2 of them selling it off ,despite being a healthy person. I know you can do whatever you love for, but put simply, Rc is a bike you should get only when you have a duke or something like that "ridable" in your garage. Anything above 100kms per week on rc is plain joke to your physique, which will show up in long run.it looks, performs, delivers the best in class, but it is not a city/highway machine .it should be only used on track and people highly ignore this factor while purchasing the bike itself.
And yes ,in our garage ,my brother just rides his RC on Sunday for 50kms or so and uses dream yuga for rest of the week ,despite no constraints on petrol money or so.

The duke/rc 250 are just showcased in japan, no information about their launch dates and prices is there currently.

There is no speculation from KTM about launching these bikes in India and even if they launch them, the launch will be atleast 1.5 years from now since RC 200 is still a very new bike

Just wondering, if you brake hard with the front and the rear tire comes off the ground, what happens then if you also slam on the rear brake? Will the rear lock up and slide when it lands down or is the ABS smart enough to figure all this out?

Generally speaking, i don't understand what all this fuss about ABS is and how it makes riding a motorbike sooo.. much safer. Its a safety net and that's it. Relying on it for safety and using it as a crutch is IMO foolish. A rider who hasn't developed good braking skills is already dangerous to himself. Period.

Fully agreed on that last line. It's a pain to ride in city traffic. I ride it twice a week alternating with my Activa.
But with that said i'm surely gonna attempt a Mum-Pune ride soon after the first service.

ABS doesn't not effectively reduce braking distance, but only prevents you from locking up. With good modulation you can stop in a shorter distance without abs.

Talking about braking, What Tyre Pressure are you guys riding on ? (Single Person). I'm seriously questioning the braking capacity of the zapper. Still after a lot of R&D i find some amount of Fishtailing on rapid braking.

i mean ..yeah ..i sort of agree with you but i dont see why can you not live with this kind of bike day to day...i mean i do!!
to totally negate the practicality of this motorcycle is also harsh....

but yeah its always better to have a comfortable ride for city traffic( i dont)

It's actually depends, I'm happy with mine as a daily commuter. Weekend highway tourer.. She does both.. And I'm pretty happy.. Yes, it was a struggle initially, but I accepted what she is meant for.. And I'm happy..

Look you don't have many tracks in India.. So it's pointless.. And completely personal opinion and what you feel and experience..

Under what conditions do you hear these squeaks ? (It normal for a squeak or two after riding in the wet or a wash, which should vanish after using the brake a few times)
A simple solution, is to take the pads out and rub them down on sand paper and also rub the edges of the pad material down a little with the sand paper. Clean the disc rotor with some dish wash soapy water or hit it with some brake cleaner (u can also use a cloth dipped in acetone to clean the disc rotor)

I had the disc rotor (first pads were replaced, which dint fix the squealing) replaced on my D200 under warranty.. no squeals since then.

Had to clean up the rear disc pads with sand paper after a 2400km trip a couple of weeks ago.. which included some riding in the wet and slush, they had a very minor squeal, that was got rid of after a wash and rub down with sand paper.

For those who say RC is plastic built...its so damn strong... Not even a single scratch at visor other then few small spots at the bottom, scratch at handle and broken brake bar...
