Typically this has to be done every 8 to 10,000 km but no one does it. You have to leave the engine to cool down overnight and only then do it.
I agree that with a 20000 Km run bike its normal, but feels weird when the bike is just new and a week old ; just feel the engine just cant handle it.

Wait for the engine to run in properly. Should become less in about 1500kms.

Have just done 500km as of now, The Ride is been pretty well, apart from a few small issues such as the heating after a long drive, the noise at higher rpm and sometimes just sudden drop in the pick up, all is fine.

Great commuter bike, easy to handle in traffic, the tires feel much more better than the old unicorn, pretty good mileage in city limits.
Ride quality is good and yes enjoying it.

            Re: Honda Unicorn 160

Been almost 3 weeks and around 800km on the odo and here are my impressions.

            1. The seating is good but on to a little harder side.
            2. The suspension seems to be a little stiff, have had some complaints from pillion.
            3. The bike seems to be set for more of a mileage point of view and not performance, because it gives you a feel that the bike just starve if you push above 4000rpm.
at 4000rpm on 1st Gear you can get up to 17 kmph, above that you just feel the bike does not respond as intended and makes a huge noise.
            4. Bike also gives you a feel that the setting for AFR is done to a lean mode.
            5. Have pushed till around 6000rpm once or twice, at 5000rpm the bike is at 57 kmph and at 6000 around 70 kmph.
            6. The engine seems to be smooth for less that 4500rpm for gears 1-4 and 5th gear it feel pretty smooth till 6000rpm.
            7. Fuel efficiency of around 44 kmpl with almost all the 800km done in pretty much city limits (80% city - 20% highway).
            8. The display console is really great, required information is there.
            9. Like others have already mentioned, no kill switch .
            10. The rear and front breaks is good.
            11. Ground clearance is pretty nice, the engine guard has just touched a few times with a pillon & driver combined weight of around 155kg, else its a breeze on the huge bumps.
            12. Have not felt any noticeable vibrations till date.
            13. The head lamps are a poor on ambient light and managed to good on low lights but after adjusting the head lamps it felt a little better.
            14. Handing is a breeze, loved the way the bike responds. In traffic it just does a great job.
            15. The fuel indicator starts blinking in the last band when its round 3 litres in the tank.
            16. The bikes performance does drop i feel while driven for around 20-30km(I shall put this as in city limits), you sometimes feel the just does not respond that great and you can indeed feel the engine heat.

Overall the bike felt great. I am happy with the bike till now, waiting for the first service to see if the engine smoothness increases at higher than 4000-4500rpm.

              Hi,
So my take on Honda Unicorn 160 after test riding few, is that the old majesticity is gone in this new bike. The bike weighs much lesser, which makes me feel like a 100cc or a 125 cc bike. The bike is not as smooth as the the old unicorn. It is ROUGH. I mean it, it is rough- the silent exhaust note, which you hear and enjoy in the old unicorn is gone. I think it is more suited for college goers and not for 30+ people. The success of gixxer has made Honda to make this bike I guess. Overall a big disappointment for me , as i planned to upgrade to this bike

I absolutely agree that the engine sounds harsh but the engine is much more refined, smooth and responsive
In my opinion the engine sound is smooth like the old Unicorn at less than 60-65kmph.. Above that yes gives you the harsh feeling.

                      Re: Honda Unicorn 160

I am really not able to find a fuel efficiency difference between City ride and highway ride. City i get around 45-46kmpl and at highways 48kmpl..

                      City Daily commute of around 50km , 60% on 1-3 gears(0-50kmph) and 40% on 4&5th gear(50-70kmph)

During Highway ride 80-90kmph most of the time.

Any suggestions why this is so ? Any thing wrong with the driving style. ?

How is the bump absorption capability of this bike. I learnt that it has stiff rear suspension. How's its effect on one's back. Owner's kindly throw some light. I have'nt met a single owner of this bike at my place. So ur input will be very valuable for me to decide in purchasing it.

                          Thank you!!

                            That seems about right.
The 'lower' fe you are getting on the highway is due to the speeds you are riding at..
Keep it to under 75 and your FE will bump up to over 50kmpl.

The stiff suspension is fine on the riders back. No problems to the rider, it has been really good to the riders back.
But to the pillion it might cause some problems, you ride the bike on a ditch at a relative high speed, you can hear the pillion complain of the having a bad experience on the back.

As i earlier replies pillion experience is a little bad on a bumpy city road,
On long rides it seems to be better on highways with occasional complains of the calf muscle pains and back pain if the pillion is not seated upright and straight.
