The service is due next week. So i am going to ask the SVC ppl to have a good look at the tyres also.

i think the engine was doing around 4500+ rpm in 4th gear (around 55 kmph).

Riding 75 kms everyday from Home to Office and 80% highway and 20% city . i'm getting 57-59 kmpl in R-R basis.. It's still under 1000 km and i'm trying to not push her beyond 62kmph any time.

        Re: Honda Unicorn 160

        Hi all,

I am a proud owner of Unicorn 160 for past 9 months. All free services done. Only glitch I had was the tachometer see through cover, which broke. But honda acknowledged it as their defect and changed it free of cost. Now that free services are over, I am now looking for a good engine oil. My brother suggested Motul lubes. Any other good suggestions/ expert advice on the engine oil would be great.

        Thanks,
        Jaga

Those are the ideal conditions for better mileage. Long rides on highways daily at consistent mild pace (around 60 km/hr).

I purchased it on 23rd October. after first service, multiple problem started.

            1. Very poor and continuous variable pickup.
            2. sometimes engine showing poor performance with knocking.
            2. engine idling speed continuous changing even after engine is hot.
            3. Rear suspension noise.
            4. Oil like brown black liquid out from gap between engine head and sparkplug
            5. Oil Leaks
            1. gap Between engine and starter motor.
            2. Gap between head and block.
            3. leak from where engine two parts joined, below front side of head.
            4. leak from engine two parts joined, front downside

            what i have to do?

do i go to demand replacement for this multiple problems?

No Honda wont replace , consider yourself lucky if they solve all these problems.

I will answer one by one .

              1. Looks AFR has been tampered with , It results in poor pickup. Note : Tight Tappets do the same.
              2. Knocking ? Again loss of performance can be due to above two issues , Carb tuning and Tappets.
              3. Please explain how the noise is . It is normal for suspension to make phuss phuss type noise under bumps.
              4. Spark plug is loosely fitted / Wrong Plug is fitted.
              5. Can be residual oil from other sources or Bore gasket is kaput .
              6. Head gasket gone - Replace it.
              7. looks like Head cover gasket you are talking about - Replace .
              8. Again looks like head gasket - Replace.

Why was head removed in first place ? These gaskets are durable until one removes head or block.

All in All get entire source of leakage fixed or you can get catastrophic engine damage from low engine oil level.
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

I already complained service centre on 22nd December.
                In front of me,

1.they tried to set AFR but engine is not responding to settings.
2.Spark plug checked, cleaned and fitted properly.

before two days ago i have noticed this oil leaks.
I shown this oil leaks to local mechanic, he told me that to stop oil leak between two parts of engine(not head gasket), engine must be open.

Motul 5100 is a good semi-synthetic oil for the unicorn.

Motul 300V is a fully synthetic oil, though it may not make much of a difference in the unicorn. The oil change interval is very long if using this oil. Some users have complained of leakage/reduction in quantity after some time. I've never used it, so can't comment.

Head gasket mostly has to be changed in your case.

The Honda service centers usually aren't good. I would give a complaint on the Honda website, so that the problem can be looked at properly by a certified technician.

                    Re: Honda Unicorn 160

It's been 2500 kms on the unicorn. I absolutely love the machine. The only issues so far: occasional false neutrals and hard rear suspension. Pick up is good and engine is butter smooth. Loving this bike.

                    Cheers,

                      Re: Honda Unicorn 160

It's been 1020 kms on ODO and first service is due. I haven't pushed my engine much so can't say much about it. Some points are compared with my old bike Hunk.

                      1) Engine feels refined but minor vibes are present which may be subjective.
                      2) I've been driving everyday 72-75 kms and 80% highway and 20% city and i get really good mileage when ridden in sane speeds <55kmph.
                      3) Front Tyre mud guard is very poorly designed with 0% utilitarian in Rains. The black scoops near front fhock absorbers are aesthetics only which makes matter worse in rains by splashing dirt above knee.
                      4) VERY STIFF SUSPENSION SETUP. The front suspension ain't so good in absorbing potholes and REAR OMG! (no pun intended) sends hell to my back. Stiffer ride quality, ain't made for bad roads. Will try to change it to soft setting and update again.
                      5) Good pickup with great maneuverability in city.
                      6) Paint quality looks good but could've been Better.
                      7) I've changed oil once and now running on Elf 10w30 and feels good so far.
                      8) Lights are Not meant for night riding.
                      9) Switchgear could have been better and there's a second delay when activating indicator switch. The lights turn on 1-2 sec after it's pressed. I'll say there's a lag.
                      10) Engine doesn't feel strained even while riding with pillion.

Well, ride and see if everything feels fine. Make sure they change the oil and clean the strainer. I had a bad experience with Haiku Honda on 2nd servicing. The bike felt very sluggish and the engine starting making odd noises. Also, they polished the disc.

                                Congratulations for your new bike.
                                1. You can ride below 4k rpm. And avoid exceeding 60kmph speed limit.

                                2. as per drive in period you have to use all 5 gears varying the rpms and avoid highway driving.
