Brake hose gone awry or air bubbles trapped/formed in the hose.
check brake-hose from top to bottom for any deformations.

Check oil level when bike is either centre stand or off stand in straight standing position. Oil should be between the given marks.

            Re: Honda Unicorn 160

My Unicorn 160 has completed about 11400 KMs. I will be going for next service very soon. What are the things that I should take care for? Do I need to change air filter, spark plug etc at this time?

I used Honda mineral oil initially but last time used Shell Advanced AX7 10W40 semi synthetic oil This time I have purchased Motul 5100 10w30 semi synthetic oil. Let me know if this is fine. Also, should I get the engine oil filter cleaned this time? (I don't know after how many kilometers it should be cleaned). I change engine oil after 2000-2500 kms. Will motul 5100 go for longer than that?

Any other suggestions will be helpfull.

In terms of problems, I am facing three
            1. Sometimes the bike starts moving sideways like a drunkard. But the problem goes away when I stop for 2-3 minutes and restart.
            2. The Engine sound becomes very harsh sometimes but mostly it is fine
            3. The gear shift is not smooth most of the times. Some times its fine but mostly very rough.

I ride 45 KMs daily mix of highway and city condition, riding between 70-90 kmph whenever possible.

            Regards,
            Vikas

Yes, according to the manual you're due for an air filter and spark plug change. Get the centrifugal oil filter and the strainer cleaned.

Motul 5100 is fine. It should last around 1000km more.

Coming to the problems you're facing

              1. Weird issue. Never heard of anything like that. You may ask them to adjust the handle and cone set setting. Check for rim bends.
              2. It is fine in hot weather in traffic. No issues.
              3. Get the chain tightened, cleaned and lubed.

                Re: Honda Unicorn 160

when i took the bike out of showroom i filled 7.6l of petrol.
the bike has run 160 km and today the fuel bar started blinking.
i have also noticed that the fuel bar fluctuates sometimes.

why is the mileage so low ?
                any suggestions

                  Re: Honda Unicorn 160

Relax, your mileage will improve as you ride more.

Fuel gauges are usually not very reliable. Movement of petrol inside the tank causes fluctuations. The best way to know the correct level is to park the bike on centre stand on level ground.

what should be the expected mileage before 1st service.
how much did yours give before 1st service?

I think you are fine in terms of mileage. out of 7.6l that you filled, 2 to 2.1 lt went to reserve. out of remaining 5.5 lt assuming a 40kmpl mileage you will get 220 km. even though the petrol indicator is blinking you have more than 1 lt oil (other than reserve) so you can go at least 50-60 km more before hitting reserve. Of course it all depends on your riding condition as well.

I think I got about 43-45 kmpl before my first service (going 45-55 kmph and within 4000 rpm range) with 60-40 highway and city riding conditions.
Mileage improved after first service. Maximum that I have got is 57.3 kmpl.

Thank you for the suggestions Shashank, I will take care of these. btw on the first issue, the problem doesn't happen every day or even frequently. It happens like once a week and that too for few moments. It feels as if it is trying to go sideways instead of going straight so, I just stop it immediately and wait for 2-3 minutes. Then start the engine again and the issue seems gone. I checked for rim bends and the rim looks perfectly fine to me. But will check with the service center guys once.

for Motul 5100 do you think it will last for 3000-3500 KM? or even more? or less?

3000-3500km at the most I guess. I'm using Motul 7100 currently.

i gave my bike to my younger cousin and he had almost no experience in riding bikes.
he rode for about 500 m only but after he gave me the bike the gearbox has become loose and shifting is not accurate.it is also making strange noises on shifting like something is broken.

                              guys what has he broken??

Maybe the clutch cable setting is gone. Go to the ASC immediately and get it checked.
