    • Problem in Honda CB Unicorn 160

I bought my Honda CB Unicorn 160 on seven months back. Odometer is just above 3,000 and second servicing done last month only.

One month back my bike suddenly got stopped. Self-start wasn't working and there was no pressure on the cick-start! I took it to nearest Honda Service Centre and they said it is a Compressor Problem!

They opened spark-plug, put some engine-oil inside and after continuous kicking; engine started with lots of white smoke from the silencer.

The mechanic asked me to bring the bike next day for cleaning some carbon deposit. As I wasn't ready to open the engine of my new bike I consulted with one of my known local mechanic, who said this kind of problem is happening with few Hero & Honda new model bikes. He also suggested me no to visit service centre immediately and if the problem recurs then I should go to service centre. I generally fill the petrol from a specific outlet, but from last 2 months I shifted to another petrol pump and I thought there might be some problem with the new petrol pump and if I start filling from the old/usual outlet I might skip this issue.

But yesterday I faced the same problem again for the second time. Though this time the bike started with 2/3 minutes with continuous self start effort.

Now, shall I visit Honda service centre where they're planning to open the engine head and clear some carbon deposit or I should carry on like this? How serious this problem is?? Please help and give suggestions on this.

      Regards,

      Sandip.

Yes, this is common with Honda engines (mostly the Unicorn engine). It is due to excess carbon deposits or sludge (maybe because of bad fuel). I've heard of many cases like this.

Go to the SVC. They do something called head lapping. It causes no problems or doesn't harm the engine in any way.

Compression loss and honda go hand in hand. Get a compression check done at SVC, They cant deny it. It should read 180 psi something.
If its near 170 , that mean your bike is losing compression and needs either new rings or new bore kit.
Other thing can be sticky valve. For that you need to keep clearances in check using feeler gauge

Use iftex system g in petrol.
For getting system g go Tata motors.
            They have it.

Just a crazy thought: anyone thought/tried the foot peg assembly of the hornet 160 on the unicorn 160? The engine and the chassis seem to be the same. Need ur inputs on the same as I just got this idea. If the foot peg can be interchanged, it would give the uni a slightly sporty stance. Just an idea guys.

              Cheers,

I too had the same idea. The front pegs will fit, but the rear is problematic. In Hornet the rear pegs are welded to the chassis. The mount point for the exhaust will be a problem.

I thought about CBZ Extreme's footpegs. They are slightly rearset, but the exhaust mount point differs a little bit, even though they seem to fit. I went to JC Road, asked the parts shop and compared the pegs. They seem very similar. It costs 2k for the pegs.

Also the handle may need to be changed for a better experience.

That's a great insight. Glad someone has the same ideas. Coming to the handle: I got a spacer and increased the height of the handle as it was uneasy to recline front. It's much more comfortable now. Hope we can do something about the footpegs too.

I was thinking of trying it out, but I'm just out of college and didn't much so much cash to splurge.😉I took measurements from an extreme parked in my apartment😛 and I think we can get it fitted with some typical Indian ingenuity. The nuts, bolts, etc are all same, and considering the fact that the chassis is similar, it is possible, but money is the problem as always.

Edit- The side panel has a Allen screw and I don't think the Extreme footpegs set will have the hole for that.

How much did the spacer cost you and where did you get it BTW?

Unicorn Dazzler with slightly rearset footpegs of the HH Hunk. Was almost plug and play. Have to check measurements of a Hunk.

Need to source the brackets, the footrest pieces, springs, levers, etc. I estimate the total cost to be around 2.5k-3k.

                          Hi Guys,

                          1. My Front Disk Pads are wore out at 12000KM, Is this usual ? Do I have to change it every 10000KM ?
                          2. Planning to change to Full Synthetic Oil for my next service. Is it a good Idea ?

Pad wear is usual. Does it making screetching sound?

Dont go for FS oil for 160cc engine, SS is sufficient.

Screeching noise did exist as the pad had completely wore out and the iron was touching the disk,
Once i changed to new Disk pads that noise has gone but while driving i hear the pad constantly touching the disk noise (not screeching but kinda a hush).

Use FS if you do a lot of high speed runs/highway runs/rip the bike. Otherwise FS is of no use.

For regular city use with occasional highway run, you can try either Shell AX7 10w40 (400rs at Shell bunks) or Motul 5100 10w30 (550rs). But Honda Throttle FS costs nearly the same as Motul 5100.

Winter best is 10w30, while summer 10/20w40 is good.
