I am a novice biker. I have used a Honda Aviator for last 4 years and almost never ridden/drove bikes or cars.
Recently purchased Honda Unicorn 160 (STD) after much deliberation and comparing with other bikes and my usage pattern/preference.

Thanks to all the experts members on this site. Your comments on various threads about bikes were really useful for me in taking this decision.

The bike has run for only 117 km (3 days) as of now (No registration yet) as I have not started taking it to my office. Also, I am still learning to negotiate with Clutch and Gear so .

What I liked -:
1. Bike is very very powerful. A little too much for me. (I guess its because of my habit of Aviator ).
2. The gear shift is very smooth and pickup is also good. The bike keeps running on top gear even at lower speed in traffic, which is good for me. Otherwise negotiating traffic in Mumbai would have been hell.
3. Headlight seems powerful enough (again Aviator effect).
4. Bike looks really big but relatively very lightweight.

Something that i disliked -:
1. Seat is not at all comfortable. Its relatively narrow and very hard. I will have to buy a separate seat with some cushioning (which can be used in heavy rain). If anyone can give any suggestion will be very helpful.
2. The Buttons on the handlebar and instrument panel are of very low quality. I was able to reset my trip meters but did not find anything to reset time. Any suggestions?
3. I have not received Owner's manual yet. So, if someone can let me know the speed limit or RPM limit before the first service (for how many KM), it will be very helpful. I am running <60 kph and <4000 rpm until now.

Any other suggestions in terms of things to change/modify may be useful (specially keeping oncoming rainy season in mind!!).

After so much of research.. Finally bought Unicorn 160 avoiding Gixxer. Had a ride for 30 kms today..Good pickup..but mileage is my concern. I am very new to biking. Don't have much of the technical knowledge. Yesterday got delivery and filled approximately 3 litres of petrol..n rode 20 kms and suddenly the fuel indicator started blinking.. At 20 kms..!!!? Is this normal..? Is blinking indicating that it is now with reserves..? Or even reserve is below the Limit... Or I have to do any basic adjustments..? Worried a bit.. Need help..

Congrats on ur bike
And since the bike is new go to any aithorised service centre and explain them the issue they might just resist but compell them to check for any issue
And Before that you yourself try to check the issue after
filling petrol 2 ro 3 more times
There is no chance of such low fuel economy if theres issue it should with indicator !

And about reserve i dont think it automatically goes on reserve so before petrol is empty bike will give u JERKS like COUGHING thats the time to turn on reserve

First of all congrats for the bike! I also saw the fuel indicator blinking much before it was in reserve. So, I think it is not an issue of mileage. I am going to ask to correct this in my 1st service (due this week).

As far as mileage is concerned, I have got 57 kmpl with 600 km on Odo till now, which is pretty good I think. My usage pattern is 75%-25% (highway-city) and never went above 60 kmph. I will measure it again and post here, specially after first service. Lets see if I get any improvement on this .

In terms of additions, I have only fixed a side luggage box of studds, and this weekend going to add additional cushioned seat with cover on top.

I noticed that the Owners Manual of the Bike indicates Reserve and On settings wrongly. The actual 'Reserve' setting is indicated as 'On' in the booklet and actual 'On' setting is indicated as 'Reserve'. I had to drag my bike to petrol bunk because of this in the middle of the night . Thank fully I got it because I was not very far.

As per owners manual, the usual service interval is 6 months/6000 kms whichever is earlier. Isn't it too long? The previous Unicorn had service interval of 3 months/3500 kms. What has changed so significantly? Any clarifications from seasoned bikers is welcome. Also, any suggestions for what to get done in the first service is welcome.

I observed that when they delivered my bike it was in reserve n I filled petrol and drove in reserve itself. So it started blinking very early..now I have turned it on..even though the milage would be around 30 kmpl..i think because at 30 kmpl thevfuel indicator will be in the last band. Keeping it in the last band how many kms can i ride..? Now it has run 100 kms. I drive only in city..Hope that the mileage will increase up to 50-55 kms.

I believe they are now using or going to use Honda Throttle fully synthetic oil, thus may cause the long service interval. Though I like to know is this 160 cc engine use any Engine Oil filter ?

just for the curiosity, user need to actually activate the Fuel Reserve feature....isn't there a blinking fuel bar or something?

I am not 100% sure about the Engine Oil Filter, but I will check in the Owner's manual and confirm. does service interval depends only on the Engine Oil type?? just curious...

For Reserve, On or Off setting, one needs to turn the Fuel Nob. if the Arrow points down it is On, if it points up it is Reserve, if it points sideways it is Off. In the owners manual, the direction of Reserve and On was mentioned Opposite (incorrectly).

...And yes the Fuel indicator blinks when fuel level is low, but it starts blinking much before the Reserve level is reached.

Hello guys, hope you all are having good rides. I serviced my 160 @376 kms yesterday. Now getting some 40 kms mileage approx. But I have observed that the pickup has gone down. I am not getting a feeling of 160cc engine at all.. Is this due to break-in period..? I am not accelerating to a greater extent, even I do it..seems like the engine is taking heavy loads.Engine is getting heated and could hear some noise as well...is this normal...? Are you all experiencing the same..? Or I am the only one with unique luck..
I heard some one saying in some forum that his 160 runs @ 40-45 in 2nd gear..my god. Can't even imagine.. I see some pulsars speeding on roads very easily but, I am not able to do that..I don't want to ride my bike @100 or more but,want to ride with ease.. Some times I feel that I am over thinkinking n let me ride it how it goes.
please share your experiences..will be helpful.

Driving the Unicorn 160 since a week, have done around 400km as of now.

As its still in the run in period, i have gone till 6000rpm few times just to check if any vibration but
I have noticed that the engine noise is very high or the exhaust just gets loud and noisier at rpm's greater the 4000 in gears 2/3/4.. is this normal ?

Apart from that a great package.

Perfectly normal. Happens on my unicorn when i cross around 4800RPM and its run 20k KM now. Vibrations and engine noise gradually increased after around 12-14k km mark since the SVC are not bothered about doing the engine valve clearence checking and the local workshops in my area are to busy to carry out this time consuming job. Typically this has to be done every 8 to 10,000 km but no one does it. You have to leave the engine to cool down overnight and only then do it.
