Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Now that I've crossed a 100kms., I can pen down my initial impressions as follows:
I'll keep this to the point, coz there are more subjective and elaborate reviews available already.
1. Looks:
Don't judge by the pictures. If you're coming from an R15/RTR, the first impression will almost intimidate you, like I was. It's almost as big as a Ninja 650. My R15 and an RC390 are almost dwarfed by it.
2. Quality:
Nothing to add. Everything is top notch.
3. Stance:
The riding posture is more relaxed than an R15's. Definitely a touring setup. Footpegs and clip ons are sporty, yet comfortable. The bike fairing extends a fair bit forward to provide the wrap around effect.
4. Ride Report, City:
It can crawl through traffic, but it heats up a fair bit. Though the temperature indicator never crossed 4 bars out of 6.
Ground clearance is good enough for potholes and speed breakers alike.
Flickability is nowhere near R15, because of weight/chassis/tyre setup. Not oriented for tracks. But handles fine for the bulk it has.
My take: This bike is meant for open roads. Keep a smaller bike for city and be happy with both.
5. Ride Report, Highway:
I took the bike to 145 kmph just to check. It was rock stable. Twisting the throttle generates a lovely twin cylinder howl and the bike pulls forward with fierce enthusiasm! Like any sport bike, you will need to warn the pillion to hold on before you accelerate hard.
The pillion seat seems scary for me at least.
For the rider, stance and seat are very comfortable. Inner thighs would grip onto the lower plastic surround part of the tank. Seat has space to adjust posture, unlike KTMs.
It is stable against crosswinds and doesn't feel like an ant on the highway!
That's it for now, please feel free to ask me specific questions. The startup and walk around video is also there for you to view.

Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Today I got the chance to ride R3 for the first time, also this is the first time I am riding a fully faired bike.
I own a duke 390 and the riding stance felt weird to me.
Growl from the exhaust was bassy and had a very nice rhythm unlike duke.
While taking a U-turn my hands were touching the tank, that was something I have never experienced this in DUKE, not sure if it's the same for all sports bike.
acceleration was good when compared to duke 390, just a touch slow.
I am not sure if this is the bike for me, it did not rev my heart. I guess I am too used to riding a naked bike
Note:- I went to siddhartha Auto Gurgaon, I saw people ripping the new bike, trip/speedo meter was disconnected, I just hope they won't sell the same bike to some one. It would definitely be not fair to the owner.

That's scary... I've seen this many times because in front of our work campus is where the registration of new bikes and car happens. I've seen silly guys ripping new Yamaha ray, Activa, pulsar and what not on those roads since it's a highway.Originally posted by faiz0210 View Post]

Re: Yamaha YZF R3 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Got the delivery today. Roamed around a bit. Managed to do 100 kms in the process. Here's my initial impression.
1. First stop was tyre change. Went and replaced the stocks with Sport Demon. Can't comment much on the MRFs, this was just done because I have had good experience with Pirelli.
2. The quality is good overall. Little niggles like the way the indicator switch juts out. It's feel is quite plush in usage, just the way it protrudes irks me. But then my other bike is a ninja 650 and the quality of its switchgear is really better. The speedometer though has most of the information you need, yet doesn't feel very well designed. I really loved the rear view mirrors. Clear and good tactile feel. The lights I thought were fantastic, especially the throw of the high beam. The seat is good too.
3. The brakes are a bit spongy initially but bite well. Still I will get brake pads changed to extreme pro as soon as I get my hands on them.
4. The suspension is stiff, but is well damped. The front isn't CBR light and the rear isn't ninja250 hard. That said true test suspension will be post first service.
Lastly there is some gruff noise during idling or at low rpms. Especially after the bike has warmed up. And it does warm up really quickly in traffic. The clutch also has a bit of an awkward biting point; riding it in traffic won't be very smooth.
That said, it's good to be back on a light nimble machine. All signs indicate I won't regret my first tuning forks badged pocket rocket.
