    Hi friends

Off late I've been facing this strange issue with the check engine light of my 5 year old R15 S

CEL comes up on the cluster while riding, stays lit for 3-4 seconds and goes off on its own. Dug up some old threads on bike forums and found that the manner in which this light flashes (for eg, 4 slow flashes and 6 fast flashes means error code 46) can be used to pinpoint the issue. But there are no flashes in my case.

I got it scanned at Yamaha ASC but no error codes were found. Chaps there said that their tool will read fault codes only when warning shows on the cluster which I feel strange. Bike was kept idle for 30 mins just to be double sure.

Today on a 100 km round trip, the CEL came up 3 times (in the aforesaid manner) with 15-20 minute intervals. There are absolutely no issues before, during or after the light comes up on the cluster. No change in acceleration, or fueling/throttle response.

Bike was serviced recently (1000 kms/2 months back), starts normally, drives well and has been reliable for the most part.

What could be the issue? Have you ever faced something like this?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I need a help. I am about to shift to Bangalore from Kolkata. I want to take my bike with me. What are the formalities I need to do here before I take it there. Also, once I reach there, do I need to take care of formalities there as well??

lately I have been riding on roads that are not perfectly levelled. I mean they are "good" roads from a cruiser/ car perspective, but they are lumpy and have uneven joints. I have been experiencing a very bumpy ride dure to this.
Yesterday I did some 160+ km on some really good roads and I noticed that anytime I was riding on anything less than a well levelled asphalt road, the bike was jumping around a lot. It felt like i was literally riding a horse. The rear wheel was making me bounce on the seat constantly and the handlebars were shaking a lot too. Overall it has become very uncomfortable to ride due to this especially at high speeds. I wanna know is this a sign my rear suspension is busted?

To give a brief history, I have had one of my front fork replaced as it was dented and leaking oil. So they replaced the whole pipe with oil and spring for just one pipe in the front.
Secondly, I have had to upsize the tyres. The front tyre was not available in the size OEM recommends, so i had to upsize that, and just so that the rear and the front tyre heights remain proportionate, I upsized the rear tyre too. So now I have 100/80 front and 140/70 (non radial) rear. Do you think the added weight of the rear tyre is causing the suspension to jump harder?
Any suggestions how do I overcome this?
This can be more sinister than it actually is. First off, the bend that you observed in the front can in fact be attributed to the high speed wobbling and the fact that if you have not replaced oil on both the forks and just one fork can be a suspect. The upsize of tire on the front directly affects the front end feel and yes it does amplify even the minute undulations, have observed this on the FZ and the R15. The ride feels like an ECG wave. The uneven upsize both at the front and rear, coupled with too high a tire pressure can all be a prime suspect. Start off by going a few PSI down say 28 front and 29 rear and see if it helps, this way, the tire flexes a bit to absorb the bumps.

Bias ply aren't great at handling undulations, they transfer all the vibrations and bump feedback to the suspension and in turn to the rider, hence their cushioning effect whatsoever isn't that great.

Try to level your front forks, both filled with new and the right ML for the both the forks, and with reduced tire pressure, I'd recommend you to go for a drive and see how it feels.

That's all I can think of at this time.

    Good luck.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers!

Nothing will happen. Your bike will run absolutely fine. The main thing in a fuel to be noted is the calorific value, which if not present, the engine won't fire up or cause missing. AFAIK all Indian bunks have 91 RON as standard. Shell V Power isn't high octane petrol, AFAIK, it's the same 91 fuel with added additives which helps keep the combustion chamber clean, i.e. detergents and additives, that's about it.

    Cheers!

What you've used is a high octane fuel, which is good and bad. Too much high octane fuel will produce a lot of heat, especially for not so high compression engines. There's nothing wrong in using this fuel, it won't return a drastic improvement in performance and why waste money when the bike is designed to run on normal octane 91 fuel. Use it very sparingly and I recommend it when going for more than 500 KM trip. But for everyday ride and commutes, stick to CoCo operated bunks with regular gasoline.

    Cheers!

Absolutely. Everyone's enjoying their little R.
Vijay, would love to hear your slipper clutch modification and do give us a detailed write up with images if feasible. As I always say, this is a bike for a life time.

If you can't ride, let it idle for 10 mins, mild revs say around 6k twice and then let it idle for a couple of mins and stop, this is the safe and best way, and nothing will happen to the bike. If the bike is uncovered and parked in road, with dusty conditions, it's better to just oil to chain with engine oil mildly and leave it at that, so that it doesn't rust. But, pretty much your bike is taking the lock down good, so nothing to worry.

    I have doubts
    1. The bike was still in the parking area for 3 weeks and today I used the bike . Will the engine have problem or get damaged if I use after the lockdown gets over

    2. Will the battery last long ! In case if it’s failure , I ll have to push the bike 1.5 km to the service centre . The starting of the bike mainly depends on the battery .

    3. The chain was lubed three weeks back and after that I dint use the bike . Should the chain be lubed again ?

PS : this bike completed one year !

Hi B7ACKTHORN, Two of the wires were melted together in right front panel location and shorted the circuit. I have checked RR output and it is within the limits while idling. Now what caused the wire meltdown so that i can take precautionary action to avoid this future.

This is the simplest yet detailed video out there I could find.

Just get any decent 12V bulb and holder and get to testing.

Do listen to the following podcast when you find the time, start from 46:50, it'll go on in detail why not to resort(entirely) to such online forums for motorcycle advice, a must listen for every forum user I'd say.

On this episode we talk to Chris Hardin about how to choose a motorcycle peg that suits you, your bike and the type of riding you do. And Warren Milner talks about how the internet is like the wild west - where it’s difficult to know what information you get for motorcycle repair, mods or gear is va
