  • [Ownership Thread]: Bajaj CT100B

    Hi Guys,

After my TVS vs Bajaj thread, I just bought Bajaj CT100B few minutes ago. Its 8PM, hence will update pics tomorrow. But here is little bit of experience. Bought from SELECT BAJAJ in Habsiguda, Hyderabad. Guys look desi but honest. Rest time will tell. By the time I reached home after 2km of first ride, I realized these:
    1. Indicators not working
    2. Bike was already been used for 24 km, thats what odometer said, 26K and I was
    3. Horn stopped working halfway home
    4. Indicator Buzzer is not giving beep-silent-beep but non-stop continuous beep.

Why all this happened. Any ideas from your experiences ?

P.S. I was sad at first and angry but then I realized, Its real life, shit happens. Will go tomorrow to them and get everything corrected.

EDIT: Went to the dealer. Mechanic said, battery is dead and they will charge it for 30 min and give me back then. I told him I just bought it last night and its new battery and its dead, I asked for a replacement. They replaced in front me without any hesitation. All the above problems are corrected. Here are some pics, please bear with my fixed-focus camera of Lenovo phone:

Bought for approximately 39K from SELECT BAJAJ in Habsigudawith all accessories:
    1. Seat-Cover
    2. Petrol-Tank Cover
    3. Saree-Guard
    4. Leg-Guard
    5. 2 more accessories I no longer remember
    6. Side-Box bought for 650/- and Petrol-Lock for 130/- from Raghuvendra Automobiles, Habsiguda on Habsiguda-Nacharam road. His shop on left-side when you are going from habsiguda to Nacharam. No bargaining he does. When I tried he said price is correct and fixed, will not change.
    7. Fitting I did from Shakoor Bhai, 1-2 shops earlier than Raghuvendra Automobiles. He took 40/- for Petrol-Lock and 150/- for Side-Box. No bargaining here either.
    8. Helmet is STUDDS CHROME, 1100/- with bill, from Javed Bhai's shop on PATNEY junction. His shop is 2nd from beginning of row. First shop owner has 3-4 guys sitting outside his shop who catch customers from road but the owner himself neither respects customers nor he talks well.

      Hi Arnuld,

I am also interested in Bajaj CT100B but I do not find it in the Bajaj Auto website, I only find CT100. I would like to know what made you go for this bike? is it the price factor or comfort.

      Thanks.

The continuous beeping normally happens when the bike is washed.

Continuous Beep is probably because the flasher is faulty or not connected properly....

            Firstly, congratulations!

Secondly, these are small issues that should have been seen before bringing the bike home.
            1. Check wires and connections.
            2. Normal. Stockyard to dealership maybe 24km away and many bikes are ridden to the dealership.
            3. Check wires and connections.
            4. Again, check wires and connections. Also, continuous beeps may mean one or both indicator bulbs may have fused.

              Re: Bajaj CT100B

@samurai95 : It is present on their wesite here , just expand the DIMENSIONS section and you will see dimensions of both CT100 and CT100B. There is no dedicated page though, if you are looking for one. Answer to your 2nd question is Price. It is the cheapest bike you can get and it looks pretty good to my eyes too. I knew several people 10 years ago who had CT100 and I never saw them spending much on maintenance. This was reason #2 I bought it. Low price means low charges for spare parts too.

@siddharth-singh & @rreneav1987 : It was because of washing, in my case.

@divya-sharan : I did check the connections, indicator buzzer was bit weaker in volume but I thought it will be fine once I start driving (mistake #1), not techincal as much as you Divya . By the time I realized after 1km of ride, which took me some time because of heavy traffic, I could not go back because it was 8 PM, their closing time. BTW, how one checks wires and connections, I don't think you meant open the side-cover and check directly on battery. Did you ? (I have been using only cycles till date. CT100B is my first real 2-wheeler).

Petrol Lock and Reserve Tank Confusion

I bought CT100B just recently and put petrol lock on it. I have not gotten the manual yet, Specs on this website says its reserve capacity is 2.4L. Before delivering it, mechanic said he has put only 1/2 liter petrol in it and I should go refill immediately, later I put 200 rupees of petrol (roughly 3L) in it and now it has completed 230 km in it but still the fuel knob it is in ON position, it has not come to RESERVE. How it is possible ? What exactly is wrong, is petrol lock wrong/not-working ?

Original petrol knob (green pipe here in pic) positions:
                    1. UP -- Reserve
                    2. DOWN -- On
                    3. MIDDLE -- Off

                    Petrol-Lock positions:
                    1. UP: Off
                    2. anti-clockwise: On
                    3. clockwise: Reserve

                        Re: Bajaj CT100B

Congrats on getting INDIA's most affordable bike. I'm following Ct100b on net since few months. And finally took the test ride 2 months back. What i like about this bike is its practicality. It has a longest and broadest seat in its segment and a luggage rack with long side fender rail. So its very useful to tie lots of luggage. Bike felt like a toy. Very light and easy to maneuver. I also took the test drive of tvs sport. I like handling of tvs sport better than Ct100b. But its 8k more costly on road for base model.

I have few queries regarding the mileage. Company claims 99.1 for Ct100b and 89kmpl for ct100. I can't digest the fact that by shedding few kilos and tuning carburetor they achieved to improve 10kmpl. So i want to know how much mileage you are getting?

@ arnuld, you have changed the fuel cock to a lockable one which has a different (not wrong) design. This changes the amount available via reserve capacity as compared to a stock fuel cock. Anyway be happy that you are getting a decent fuel efficiency right now. Also about electricals and other stuff, your bike is under warranty, so do not worry. 24kms or not your bike is new. If they had disabled the odometer and ridden it, how would you be able to tell? Love your bike and I wish you many many happy kms with it. Congratulations. Test fuel efficiency on level roads from reserve to reserve. Also you can check no. of kms possible under reserve fuel circumstances. Tilting the bike with AR Fuel cocks works, so even if it sputters to a stop when you get a dry fuel tank. By tilt method you should be able to drive for about 1.5kms and adding about 400mtrs by using the choke.

                              Re: Bajaj CT100B

@Rahul_Seeker: I am getting more than 80+ in city. I have never measured it reserve to reserve because I could not understand the reserve capacity of this new petrol-lock. Bajaj original fuel-knob has 1.8L reserve capacity as per the manual but this desi-petrol lock I got no idea, I was scared that it will shut off in the middle of the nowhere, so I never tested. I had put 3L petrol and after 248 km still there was little petrol left which I came to know after shaking the bike otherwise tank was looking completely empty with petrol-lock-cum-knob in ON position . (I guess I could have done 15-20 km more before emptying it out totally). If you want to know the practical city milage comparing to "company told mileage" then you should always do -15 from what they tell. This formula always worked for me. e.g. they told me 99 for CT100B. Then 99-15 = 84, which is very close to what I am getting.

@rk1685: Many thanks for reminding me the tilting-trick. I remember my college friends using it to go for exactly 1.5 km using that. I somehow forgotten about it, it was 16 years ago. I was scared of bike getting to a complete halt at some unknown place with no petrol pump nearby because of petrol-lock not going to reserve. Now thanks to you for jogging up my memory, I will check the mileage without worrying anything

EXPERIENCE after 700 km & First Service:

After 1st service gear-shifting is smooth again, just like earlier. So far, 700km have been fun. Bike is light, comfortable, can be turned and maneuvered into any direction, in any way without much effort. Mileage is definitely 80+, have not checked reserve-to-reserve yet. But I am not worried about petrol expenses with
                              CT100B. And
Rahul_Seeker you are right, it is very, very easy to maneuver this bike in extremely crowded traffic. Take my example, in peak traffic times, think 1km in 30 min, other people's bikes were constantly in 1st/2nd gear while I turned my bike off and was liteally riding it like cycle and it never made me feel tired. One more experience, I have travelled inside city with hardly 15-20 min breaks between four 15-25 km rides and I never bothered about petrol expenses. This feels like kind of really what I needed, a real commuting bike. Its silencer is really silent.

                              Few points:
                              1. Travelling 70-100 km on this bike in few hours tends to give bit of back-ache.
                              2. Bike does not have any power in it. I am 60 kg and it rides fine like a champ. If I put 10kg worth of stuff in my backpack+side-box, which I need to do sometimes as per the nature of work, then bike starts to drag a bit. May be this is how all 100cc bikes are because I have felt exactly same on my friend's Hero Passion. I think I am expecting too much from 100cc, may be my 2nd bike will be 125/150cc.
                              3. Don't drive this beyond 50 kmph. I took it to 70 once and I literally felt as if front tire is lifted-off the road and though i got scared, I still pushed it upto 80 and it felt like I and bike both will fly and fall off the punjagutta flyover (punjagutta, a place in Hyderabad). It was very scary, I never tried that again. All this I think because bike is very lightweight, it feels like a riding a feather.
                              4. ASC (Authorized Service Center) told me I have to leave the bike by 10AM and get it back by 3 PM, I can not stand there and look at the service because lot of people come with their bikes and they really need few hours. I left by bike around 11 am and went back to get it by 4 PM. 1st free service was done they told me it will be 430/- for oil change and I paid but I did not move from there after that . They understood I was waiting for bill/receipt and the guy there said I have to wait because internet is giving some problem, I replied I have all the time in the world and will wait. Finally after sometime my phone got SMS from Bajaj (yeah, Bajaj company, not ASC). It had 1st free service coupon code in it. They asked me to show it to them, then they entered the code online and printed a bill of 370/-. They said "we don't know why consumer charge of 60/- is not showing up in bill, it is always there usually. Anyway, Sir, take your 60/- back". That is exactly what happened and I promised myself to ask for bill everytime I do anything anywhere with my bike or anything I buy, from this day onwards will never be without a bill.

Having said all that, I love what Bajaj has created, this CT100B, it fits all of my needs and I am very happy.

                              They used Bajaj DTSi 10w30
oil and they use same for all 100cc bikes (and for all 125cc too IIRC).They told me warranty will void if I use any other oil , so I guess I got stuck with Bajaj oil as top-up. They top-up after every 5K and change of oil every 10K. But from what I have understood here on xbhp after reading insane amount of posts on Engine Oil, I will drain-and-refill every 2K km. I wil post more after another 1000-1500 km.

                              Happy riding
