Sound doesn't bother me at all, infact i like it. but there are many owners who complain about it and doubt the reliability of engine because of it.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
In mine it's very faint as the kms pile up. I can hear the wind noise more than that sound. It was more prominent for me at least till 15,000km or so. Vibes also considerably smoothened out.

These bolts are tightened once and then stay that way. Recall was for those that weren't tightened with threadlocker. Not any fundamental issue with the engine. It's a nice bike and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again, if I was going to have to make a decision with what's in the market today.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostOnly concern here is that there are 2 bolts behind the camshaft access cap that are notorious for loosening and falling inside engine (they recalled several units to apply threadlocker).

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Wasnt that the cause for the first recall? The one that happened soon after the motorcycle was released?Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostResonance is very likely explanation as all of them have it in the same range acc to slopegatri. Only concern here is that there are 2 bolts behind the camshaft access cap that are notorious for loosening and falling inside engine (they recalled several units to apply threadlocker).
Is the second recall also regarding the same issue?
If that is the case I believe the medium strength threadlocker wasn't up to the task, in that case wouldn't it simply be best for everyone if they simply DIY'd and went for high strength thread locker to resolve the concern once and for all?
On a different note, if you recall my P220 had luggage racks at the rear that were fastened on to the stock mounts on the motorcycle, I had used medium strength threadlocker and also let them properly set before using the motorcycle, everything was fine and well until I recently decided to take them off, I had my impact driver ready but to my surprise the bolts came off without even the slightest bit of hesitation, which leads me to believe that with even the medium strength ones available in the market are not even designed to handle that kind of abuse from regular shock and leverage.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Probably grasping at straws here, but the one on the XT/FZ25 uses 6 springs compared to 4 (some of them don't use springs) on the others. I remember reading on one of the forums that the noise was present even on a rebuilt engine (rebuilt using the proper torque specs and generous use of threadlocker).Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostI don't think it can cause any noise as similar design is used in almost all Jap street/commuters/offroad we have here (FZ16, GS150, Impulse 150 & 200, Hornet 160R, 160/200 4V, Gixxer, etc).
Loose bolts/nuts/washers probably wouldn't cause this noise, that too just at a particular RPM range.
What I found is that this noise is common to the XT singles (and TW200) from Yamaha, all of them have this setup with 6 springs. The thing is that no one really cares about this noise there, they just go out and ride. Haven't seen reports of this noise in Suzuki/Honda/Kawasaki engines.
Probably the resonance effect is stronger in these engines, I'm not sure.
But, as other members have mentioned, it isn't an issue, have seen reports of this engine running some 1.5L kms without needing a rebuild, and ~70000kms in Indian conditions (as mentioned by slopegatri).
The noise does get louder if the valve clearances are tight, or are improperly set, so it is like a signal to check valve clearances. The noise has reduced by some 80% on my bike after 10k kms.Last edited by Shashank K R; 01-01-2020, 11:42 AM.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Guys, what oil do you recommend for our bikes?
I'm confused between motul7100, motul300v, and motul 300v2. Are there any other recommendations like shell?
In the manual, the recommended API standard is SL, and the grade as 10W-40. Since this engine gets hot a lot, anybody experienced improvements going for 10W-50?

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
7100 is recommended. You can also go with Liqui Moly.
Also many have been trying 10w50 and I have heard the manual for XT250 recommends same.
Goodluck.Originally posted by vedantdude View PostGuys, what oil do you recommend for our bikes?

As MidnightEvil mentioned, 7100 10w50. There is a noticeable difference in NVH. Don't go for 7100 10w40, it makes the engine feel rough. The XT250 manual mentions 20w40, but it makes the engine sluggish.Originally posted by vedantdude View PostGuys, what oil do you recommend for our bikes?

Yamalube isn't bad either (with drain intervals of 2500kms or so when riding more in high speed/high traffic/dusty situations).
On a different note, how do you guys remove the spark plug? Yamaha cheaped out and didn't provide the tool in the kit. Gurpal suggested to use a ring spanner, but it scrapes the engine and slightly soils it. I couldn't find a 18mm box spanner in my city.Last edited by Shashank K R; 01-01-2020, 12:15 PM.

Use a longer 18mm socket. works well.Originally posted by Shashank K R View Post

BTW, does anyone know what this type of screw/bolt is called ?
it's from the headlight. used to adjust beam angle. i had to break it to make space for the bi-led projector. but now i need a new one.

Hi this will work. Not the lowest price but saves you the trip to go searching just for this.

Buy 18mm deep reach socket from Amazon. You can also buy one locally.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostAs MidnightEvil mentioned, 7100 10w50. There is a noticeable difference in NVH. Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
It looks like something proprietary. Would guess trying to get one from a scrapped piece at the service center is possible. Hope the headlight works well!Originally posted by slopegatri View Post

Hmm, good idea. will see if they have any.Originally posted by Kirankarunan View PostIt looks like something proprietary. Would guess trying to get one from a scrapped piece at the service center is possible. Hope the headlight works well!
Headlight works great, better than any stock headlights even on some high end bikes. i'm trying to have beam level adjusts option as well and this is taking time.
This is the output when both projectors are on @ 12w each in fanless mode. i can increase the output almost 2.5x more with projectors running @ 36w each ( with fan).
but even at 12w, it's already giving me 2x more intensity and much wider light output compared to stock headlight.Fz25 2018 (ABS retrofitted)

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Probably called a geared screw or headlight gear unit assembly (got this one from the FJ09 parts catalogue). Looks like that part comes with the headlight assembly and not separately.Originally posted by slopegatri View PostBTW, does anyone know what this type of screw/bolt is called ?
Looks like you've changed the color of the display? Was it simple to do (as in dismantling the display)?
The headlight looks great by the way. The throw seems to be good from the picture.Last edited by Shashank K R; 01-01-2020, 01:59 PM.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Yes i have changed it, Not really difficult imo if you know how to solder/desolder. unfortunately i didn't take pictures when i was doing it. you will need to dedsolder lcd unit from the pcb, to get access to 2 leds, change those to whatever color leds you want then solder back the lcd unit. by changing the polarizer we can also make it negative like it is on mt15/fzv3. but i haven't done that yet.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostProbably called a geared screw or headlight gear unit assembly (got this one from the FJ09 parts catalogue). ^ the headlight looks like flood lighting! So cool. Never knew that the display lights could be manipulated like that. Does that headlight work off the stock electricals?Last edited by Kirankarunan; 01-01-2020, 02:44 PM.
