Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi All,
Little did i know within a week of saying all is good with the bike, I will be writing this post on the issue i am suddenly facing from yesterday evening.
So here goes what all happened till now. I am not able to still pin point the issue, so stuck on what should i do next.
Yesterday evening the bike refused to crank and start. I turn the key, the console lights up, turn off the kill switch , i can hear the fuel pump turning now.
Then when I press the ignition button to start the bike, I just hear a click sound and nothing. The bike doesn't crank at all.
Tried couple of times. No errors on the console. Battery is showing 12.4 volts and all good. DRLs are on. Finally I thought its getting late. So i jump started the bike with help of my friend by pushing it down a slope and putting it in 1st gear. The bike turned on and all was good.
I came home, switched it off and tried turning it ON again. Same problem, fuel pump and console all fine, but only a click (kind of a relay switch sound) when i press the ignition button.
Left it the night and thought will take it to Service center in the morning.
In the morning today , i tried to turn it on again, but again same issue. Jump started it and came to office and my bike documents were in my office drawer.
As soon as i reached office, in the parking i tried once again to start the bike after turning it off and it came on.
So now I m in confusion like why didn't it turn on yesterday night after i reached home and tried to turn it on.
Is it some loose contact.
Should i take it to service center, but the problem is I am not able to reproduce the issue now.
Any pointers would really help, as I dont want to get stuck in the same situation in the middle of the road at an odd time.
Has anyone faced this kind of issue. Is the battery gone. My bike is approximately one year old and done 8500 kms.
May be rain water has seeped into the electronics. I am not able pin point what could have gone wrong and why its working fine now.
Thank you.

Looks like waiting is the only option as of nowOriginally posted by Dandamudi Mohan Krishna View PostNo idea as of now.
..
In the meanwhile i completed 8.5k kms in 11 months
. The bike is at its best except for the 2 punctures thanks to Bangalore roads.
Cheers

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Don't bother, water will always find its way to pool somewhere, where there are recesses and crevices. The best thing you can do, after each service is, make sure your bike is thoroughly given the pressurized air treatment and it is exactly used to prevent water from holding back inside of switch gear, ignition lock sets and engine componentry. The pressurized air is supposed to remove all the stagnant water wherever applicable after washing the bike.Originally posted by Dandamudi Mohan Krishna View PostIn the photos I didn't capture the water logging but when you wash or get in rain water gets stuck in there for sometime. When you accelerate fast then only the water comes out.
Make it a habit to use pressurized air, clean and well in and around the important areas I hightlighted above and mostly near the starter motor, where water gets pooled up.
Cheers!

aren't these just dirt splashes as opposed to water logging?

I generally don't look at the speedo while riding so a fancy TFT doesn't matter, but google maps like navigation would be *really* useful.Originally posted by Dandamudi Mohan Krishna View Post[*]The speedometer is great but it feels like hit and miss I mean if they added turn by turn navigation it would have become complete package even if it was like a paid option.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
My short "review" of 2019 model
Most people who are in this forum probably already know what the bike rides like and feels like so I'm not going elaborate it, my review is about improvements and changes that are made over 2017 model and what could be made better.
So far I'm very happy bike its has performed better than I expected and I generally use bike day to day office commute and weekend getaways around Chennai I haven't done any long journeys (something beyond 200 kms) yet and bike loves highways. I have done two services so far and both costed roughly 1800-1900 and its usual oil change and filter change, I'm getting mileage of 25 kmpl in city highways it gets better and usually 30 kmpl +
Changes
These are four key things that differentiates which has changed over 2017 and 2018 model- Speedometer has been changed with new UI and software version is 1V08 instead of blue rev counter now it has Orange and have already shared at page: https://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcy...ences-258.html
- ABS is no longer can be switched off completely its either road or only in front.
- Heat shield added near the leg (this was available in 2018 model also)
- Bigger grab rail that goes over tail light and it kind protects tail light from breaking if pillion sits back on it. (it was available in mid 2018 end - early 2019 models)
Things that are improved.
These are things that were improved over existing model- Less buggy software, every issues that was mentioned in the forum (time being moving forward or backward to trip meter resetting or time completely needing to reset again ) are fixed which I have cross-checked with one or two guys whom I met at service center.
- Radiator is much quieter when compared to 2017 model and not completely sure in comparison to 2018 model but you can hear it but its not irritatingly loud.
- Some people in forum have found infamous radiator fluid mixing into engine oil issue but again haven't seen such behavior which again cross checked with others.
- The heat is not unbearable , I used bike in B2B traffic in Chennai in summer it does get hot but not as bad as the 2017 model also it gets hot only if you rev the nuts out of it else its little bit less.
Things that needs to be improved.
These are few annoyances that I think KTM should fix.
- The water drain pipe near fuel tank is installed very weird and shitty way and it needs to improved and if you haven't done modification like I did better keep an eye. It was discussed earlier at https://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcy...ences-265.html
- The water gets logged in few places and doesn't go out after rain or wash as shown in below images which is irritating
Things that I wish were added:- The speedometer is great but it feels like hit and miss I mean if they added turn by turn navigation it would have become complete package even if it was like a paid option.
- Many people may not like the "jumpy rpm" I don't mind it but it feels like bike has its own mind.
Changes I made to bike: There's subtle things I did like removing the knuckle guard and made front mud guard black so now it looks like a body builder flexing its trap muscles.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
after the Oil seal change, i had added 25ml of Liqui moly with oil being fresh, filled up a tank full of Speed 97RON from velachery to phoenix mall 100feet road,Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostThat's great. I wish I had said this earlier, but you could have mentioned that you'd replace the entire balancer shaft and the oil seals along next time in case, if it leaks again or coolant leak induced seizure. Now that you've replaced your coolant and chain sprocket. Do keep a keen eye on the coolant level for the upcoming week or two. Make sure the bike is put through its paces so that we get to observe coolant loss if any, will be zeroed in early.
Also, use Bardahl, they are cheap and decent additive. I haven't used LiquiMoly, so I can't comment on that. If you find your oil filter was clogged or murky oil, it's better to flush the engine, and then use fresh engine oil.
Good luck. Hope it helps!
Keep your observations posted.
Cheers!
VJ
went for a 300km drive , my observations are
After 5 to 10 mins of drive i could feel the engine felt much smooth , the engine sound very much reduced.
i couldn't straight away observe as i was focusing on the windshield mod i had done to see if it is stable at high speed.
yes my windshield was stable and felt comfortable cruising at high speed close to 140 to 150 and maintained average of 130 speed for the 1hour 45mins journey non stop
from chennai to vellore and back
satisfied with the performance and at the same time having a constant check at the coolant level.
liqui moly effect - will have to check, it it will have any long term implications. so far good.
wind shield mod is much better now. i use ILLUVIA as the base one and extended with Yamaha windshield (the regular one) to increase the height .
a thin steel rod to support from handlebar to windshield to add support at high speed. perfect now
will post picture soon.
Hoping my Coolant issue should not comeback again - should be good for at least 6 months
My next concern is for the Starting coil - so far changed twice - hope it should not comeback again.

As told VJ and s1d, all spares replaced are okay for the kilometers run and cost is also proper except for No.8 Chain lube ₹165. Ideally it should be covered free as part of paid service cost of ₹1003.Originally posted by aswin_93 View PostI am unable to attach the document here due to size restrictions, even after trying to compress it

Chain guide replacement is unnecessary for just 15K kms! For replacing that small Chain Guide they have charged "Swing Arm" labor of ₹236!
Coming to labor charge No.3, No.6 should be covered as part of paid service charge.
No.2 is fine if they really did a complete coolant flush, remove and refill. Just confirm that did replace the entire coolant and refilled 1L full.
No.4, No.5, No.7, No.8, No.9 is complete robbery and they have looted total of ₹1416 and are unnecessary jobs done. Even if the job is done, all labor cost for that will not cost more than ₹500
What is "Outside Labor" for? Did they do any Lathe or welding work! Utter RIP off, never knew KTM Mekhri circle has become so horrible in terms making money.Last edited by kiran2508; 09-06-2019, 07:34 PM.
