Hi everyone,
Glad to finally join this privileged biker's community!
After much deliberation and research (minus test drives unfortunately), I went ahead and booked a Red Apache RR310 at Dhiraa Motors in Chennai yesterday (30th March).
Dhiraa Motors is almost 30 kms away from my home but I went ahead with them because they were the most responsive to my queries and more importantly, because they offered to give delivery next week!
Permint me to provide a few more details for background:
I called up each of the 3 dealers in Chennai over the last 2 weeks- Lokesh flatly said it will take minimum 6 months for the red and 4 for black and that test drives are not possible. Also visited their showroom to double check. Their response and callous attitude was evident even in person.
SBM motors were responsive on phone but did say it will take 2-4 months from booking. Again, test drives were not possible..
During this time, I had also registered my interest to test drive/book the vehicle on the official Apache website. Received a call from TVS when I shared my helplessness with being able to find a dealer who could provide a reasonable timeline for delivery. They asked me to get in touch with Dhiraa Motors as their inventory records showed Dhiraa had availability.
Finally, I called up Dhira and they informed me they can provide either colour within a month. After some hesitation (due to the distance), I decided to verify this in person and even go ahead with the booking if the offer was credible.
Dropped in yesterday, spoke to the sales guy and manager/owner that I had come over with the intent to book (and purchase with full payment/no finance) once I got a clear confirmation on the waiting time. During the conversation (after they also regretted not being able to provide test drives), they confirmed that they could provide the vehicle sooner - as soon as the coming week. I was pleasantly surprised and asked to confirm they were going to provide a "new" vehicle and not any test drive vehicle. They confirmed and said due to limited availability, test drives were not being provided to anyone anyway. I asked at least a physical inspection and close feel of some vehicle if test drive was not possible when they took me to the service section and let me start/sit on/inspect one of two new RR310s there.
The vehicle I inspected had 19km in the ODO with mileage being 18kmpl (!) and top speed 109 kmph (!!) I asked them about this and they shared that the factory QC team tests out the vehicles as part of the checks and sometimes vehicles are delivered with some kms already in the ODO. Also they have a large stock yard a few kms away and vehicles are ridden from there (but never abused...). I confirmed independently about their stock yard..
I was also a bit surprised when they only provided an approx on-ride price of 2.4 lacs stating that the RTO charges are expected to be updated from Apr 1 so they promised to provide the detailed break-up by mail on Monday (2nd April).
The rest of my conversation with them was otherwise very reasonable and my doubts about their credibility faded (maybe I am/was biased with receiving the vehicle sooner than I expected!) and gave them the booking amount cheque for 5k.
I plan to drop in on Tuesday/Wednesday to complete the documentation process, payment and select the vehicle from a few options that will provide.
One other concern that I am helpless with is that the registration will have to happen near my place that is 25 kms away from the showroom and the showroom will hand over delivery only after registration from the showroom (so PDI is also appropriately completed). That will mean that the showroom guys will ride the vehicle at least 50-55kms (+ what was already in the ODO) before I get the delivery!
Asking the experts here if I am being too hasty here?
The Dhiraa guys said that the other two showrooms may have overbooked in the last 2-3 months while they did not but am I possibly getting something that is too good to be true?
Also, is there any alternative process of getting the RTO sorted without the showroom doing extra 50-55kms...??
I have rambled on enough in my first post so stopping now. More for later!
Cheers!

1. Thats a red flag. Its correct that the bikes are tested before shipping out but it will not be more than 5kms. Warehouse excuse is BS. And definitely dont believe them when they say they dont abuse the bike while transporting it to the showroom. Instead you can tell them that you will pick the bike directly from teh Showroom and that YOU will ride it.
2. Why will teh showroom guy ride it for 50kms?
3. I believe you are being a bit hasty. RTO registration process is very simple. You can do it yourself infact you have to do it yourself. For My Gixxer Related videos: Click HERE

1. Not a red flag. The RR310s are ridden for while in the factory roller. All bikes are taken to a particular speed above 100. Most of them had 109 and a few had 112kmph.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View Post1. Thats a red flag. Its correct that the bikes are tested before shipping out but it will not be more than 5kms. This is what i noticed. And the odo can be reset to 0, just like Fiat cars.
Here the limit is 20kms, Fiats have 80kms.

Thanks for the revert, MotoBlizzard. Much appreciated. I will call the dealer tomorrow morning to see if I can get the delivery before registration or at least ride the vehicle myself there.Originally posted by MotoBlizzard View Post1. Thats a red flag. Will post progress here.
Any other inputs welcome too. Keen to also hear if anyone else here has bought from Dhiraa and cam share their feedback.

Re: TVS Apache RR310
Got delivery from SBM.My RTO is around 20kms from the showroom, hence I had 50kms on the odo when I took delivery.
Highest speed was around 115kmph. It was almost the same for the four bikes that came in the same lot. I guess you'll get the same situation.
Dhiraa is a new showroom. They had one bike ready for delivery on full payment around two weeks back. I hope it's not the same one.
SBM got 4 red bikes and 2 blacks on 9th March. As of March 20th, they had 10 blacks ready and 0 reds.
Red wasn't available even is the plant as per the showroom.
Logesh has been giving long waiting periods since the launch. Dont know how many they have delivered.AweSome is too LesS!

Re: TVS Apache RR310
Yes, it is true that some showrooms store new bikes in their warehouse/parking lot that might be situated at a different location. So it's normal to see some km on the odo on a new bike.Originally posted by BikerReborn View PostThe vehicle I inspected had 19km in the ODO with mileage being 18kmpl (!) and top speed 109 kmph (!!) Now coming to the top speed recorded, i am not sure if that was recorded at the factory or by the showroom guy (or worse a test ride participant).
Coming to the RTO, check if you can accompany them to the rto to get it registered. Some states like telangana for example, you get a temp registration usually on the spot when you buy the bike (online process) and the owner can take it for the permanent number registration usually within the next 30 days to the rto. The process in chennai seems slightly different (been ages since i bought a bike in chennai
) with the bike being delivered only after the full registration being done.
If you are really anal about getting a bike with zero odo, i suggest you visit the warehouse where the bikes are unloaded directly and pick the bike and accompany them to the rto. Some showrooms allow you to do this.. just try. this way you will for sure know what the actual odo reads on a bike just off the truck ! With the digital consoles these days, there probably might be a provision to reset/reconfigure the odo at delivery (for e.g ktm bikes these days come with a sort of a lock that the svc needs to unlock using their diag tool after the bike is delivered to them)

Re: TVS Apache RR310
Thanks for the info vinbex. Based on your post and JS16's reply, I guess the odo and top speed may have some relatively high numbers and I may have to rely more on PDI (and luck!) to ensure I have received a good vehicle.Originally posted by vinbex View PostGot delivery from SBM.My RTO is around 20kms from the showroom, hence I had 50kms on the odo when I took delivery.

Also on the RTO, I may end up with a similar experience as you but will recheck with the dealer. Can't ensure any dealer will not abuse the vehicle before delivery or even during a service for that matter.. Hope for the best.
Cheers and safe travels!

Hi S1d, thanks for your inputs. I am really more concerned with receiving a "new" bike that works and feels "new" and not as concerned with the odo. Just that I am also getting back to biking after a longish break and a bit anxious till I get my groove back!Originally posted by s1d View PostYes, it is true that some showrooms store new bikes in their warehouse/parking lot that might be situated at a different location. Definitely no expert on PDI or even to determine a bike with 0 odo is truly "new" so trying to digest and best utilize inputs from the seasoned bikers here.
Even I didn't think it was possible in Chennai to get delivery before RTO process was complete but will check this again with the dealer. At the very least, I will get more educated about the process while I keep wishing that I get a hassle free buying/motoring experience.
Cheers!

Re: TVS Apache RR310
As far as I have seen, some owners posted pics with the temp reg plates and said they'll get it registered in their hometown.
But, when I got the bike, they simply said they'll deliver it only after registration, which was okay for me.
We are paranoid because we see a lot more info these days on the odo. Previously, there was nothing and we had to take the showrooms word.
But, please check the bike thoroughly. You can see the manufacturing date as well.
If it's December or January, stay away.AweSome is too LesS!

Can you elaborate more on the last point please. Have there been issues with the December/Jan batch of RR310s?Originally posted by vinbex View PostAs far as I have seen, some owners posted pics with the temp reg plates and said they'll get it registered in their hometown.

Re: TVS Apache RR310
I meant, you should be getting march or February manufactured vehicles now. If it's January or December, it's a vehicle which has been lying around for a while. And since he is a new dealer, he shouldnt ideally have older bikes, right?AweSome is too LesS!
