Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Hi fellow riders, after 18 months of ownership and around 9000+ kms on the odo, I finally started searching for a good aftermarket exhaust and air filter combo and decided on the AEW 102 with the Motowings hyperflow air filter. I changed both myself in my parking area and it just took an hour or less. The replacement was so simple, easy, and neat. AEW 102 fittings were perfectly matching the stock fittings and there was no problem at all. The MW air filter is a direct fit and I just cut the top of the stock air filter cover as suggested by one of our group member to make a wider opening for the intake and avoided buying an aftermarket air filter cover/stay which costed too much to its make and use as per my opinion.
Initially I was towards buying the S&S exhaust and DNA air filter but on deeper thinking, I did not want to spend like 55k+ for the exhaust and air filter for a motorcycle which costed only 3L on road. The AEW 102 finish was similar to S&S but I do agree S&S should be way better quality wise than our local brands. Also the MW air filter was almost similar to the DNA or BMC with regards to the intake airflow and filtration levels as per their spec sheets and it costed almost 50% less than the imported ones. I found this AEW 102 and MW air filter to be a good combo and went ahead with the purchase and fitting. I liked the sound and performance of the MW trident exhausts but the design was the only downer. I wanted the design to be something like the AEW 102 or the S&S, more like stock and up-swept .
The AEW 102 came with the baffles fitted and sounds subtle at idle and has desired growl/rumble/burble at highers RPMs and without baffles it is a bit loud and bassy. Overall I feel it a worthy replacement. Please suggest if I have missed anything. Thank you.

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
I got perilli sports demon as a replacement for front tyre for same issue and it hasn't re occurred. I have also discussed this with re asm that this tyre is nit suitable for the bike. Same opinion was given by engineer of a different tyre brand. Most owners have faced wobbling issue post replacement on the new tyre phantom sports comp after riding 1 to 3 k kms.Originally posted by ishan12 View PostI see a lot of owners posting here about the infamous wobble issue. I have the same problem, the handle bar starts to wobble between 80-90 kmph and is absolutely fine below and above those speeds.
RE did promise to sort the issue out, they said the issue is due to tyre, and they changed the front tyre under warranty. But the issue came back after around 800km on the new tyre. We in Pune even had whatsapp group of all owners facing this issue, but I am yet to meet someone who got the issue resolved by RE. They even changed the entire front wheel assembly for some, but the issue came back after a few 100 kms. I gave up after multiple visits to the SC. As of now I have just got my t stem nut a little over tightened and that makes the wobble less noticeable, since there is no other solution.
But many who had the issue initially have not experienced any wobble after switching to different tyres (Ralco, Timsun etc). So my guess is, the cause is those OEM Pirelli tyres. I read about the same wobbling issue on the Street twin thread as well which has exactly the same front tyre.
So I guess those Pirellis are not the right tyres for this kind of front light motorcycle.
Don't know why but my service center gave me sports demon as replacement though it falls under phantom sports comp but I am not complaining as far as the issue is resolved. Sports demon has same speed and load rating as phantom sports comp both are Bias ply radial.
This is an international level issue and re seriously needs to work with tyre maker if that is something which is causing this.

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Makes sense, not aware of the Street Twin issue. 650 tyres are not made in Germany but Brasil also the tyre groove depth is half compared to German tyres. Is Triumph also using made in Brazil tyres? Also no one abroad is complaining despite running same tyres. Either RE is giving faulty tyres on purpose in India or it is Pirelli playing shady. Today I tried 33/37 psi and that helped a lot with wobble. Dare I say upto 50% improvement. Can someone advise that If I don't leave the handle then how much impact this wobble will have on riding dynamics. Is it still ok to go fast on turns and on highways? Or should I avoid riding fast?Originally posted by ishan12 View PostI see a lot of owners posting here about the infamous wobble issue. Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Swingarm was all ok balance wise. Tyre is not seated properly. I will definitely go for the alignment and if not resolved offcourse I will pursue it further. Thankfully yashasvi has shared numbers of RE officials so if not resolved I will get in touch with them.Originally posted by Ijs View PostHow was the swingarm balance ? And wheel not fitting correctly means swingarm balance is out or tyre is not seated properly to the rim.
Anyhow getting alignment done would help but if not then do raise a formal complaint.
Wobbling if it is due to imbalanced swingarm would lead to uneven wear on the tyre same for lose spokes.
This video would help u check the swingarm balance.

Front tyre pressure was 28 and topping to 32 has helped like 20% with the wobble. Keeping fingers crossed. Will update after alignment.

I have done just 800km and this wobble started right after puncture repair, before that it was all fine. I am also thinking the alignment route. Tomorrow is holiday so probably gotta wait till Tuesday morning. Has anyone tried heavier fork oil successfully on front end. It is way too soft.
Just to be clear, is this wobble going to cause a big problem because it is only between 80-90kmph and then disappears completely.
Thanks again.

If the wobble started after removing and refixing the wheel for puncture repair then there is probability of imbalanced swing arm, check the chain adjustments marking on the swingarm on both side both side should be on similar mark.
Now all the stuff written below applicable if the swingarm balance is good and wobble is still there.
If this is not the case then ask your service center to check the wheel alignment (rim truing) this is done foc in warranty. If Even after rim truing the wobble still remains then the next thing is the cone bearing, re greasing and re torquing is needed.
Now the final thing, even after all these wobble still remains then you need replacement for front tyres(in warranty foc before 10k kms) , in some cases both tyres.
Apparently the tyres are not up to the mark and this wobble is faced by many, I have also got replacement for front tyre for my Int650 and recently a friend has got his gt's front tyre replaced for same . I have got a different one from my service center perilli sports demon, people who have got replacement have again complaint for the same wobble after 3 or 4 k kms. Few have faced this wobble after 10k kms and are not very lucky and warranty replacement is done before 10k kms.
Seems like due to lose spokes the tyre started to wear out unevenly so it is important to keep the rim truing in check.
Other thing which i have got from engineer of tyre company is that the tyre construction is not suitable for weight load under high speed.
Few cases were due to cone bearing but major number is due to tyre.
This is not a one or two cases thing ,many are facing this. If possible use action cam or somehow make a video of the wobble and report it to your sa and let them find the solution.

I am yet to get a feedback on the status of drain pipe.Originally posted by enfro View PostIs the water ingress due to the cracked washer? And what is the health status of the drain pipe? Hope there is no choking.
Taking a leaf from the discussions here I have asked for a warranty repair on the tank cap assembly. Hopefully it materialises soon.
In addition to the water ingress in the fuel tank I was also experiencing sponginess in the rear brake. Have asked the SVC centre guys to bleed the rear brake as well.
Will give a detailed update once I get my bike.

Is the water ingress due to the cracked washer? And what is the health status of the drain pipe? Hope there is no choking.Originally posted by Chakrapani View PostThanks for the pics. I have experienced the same issue of engine tending to die. Since I am aware of the cracked rubber washer on the inside of the fuel cap I knew that this could be due to water ingress. What was more interesting was that the bike tended to stall when leaned to the left side specifically. This was consistent with the side on which the washer crack was present. Have sent the bike for getting the problem resolved. Got a call from the RE service centre that the entire tank was drained and they found a fair bit of water inside. The bike is still there. Will update once I get it back. My bike is Nov 18 model.
Owners of BS6 models plz check and confirm same problem is faced by you also.

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Thanks but could u upload the pics again as none is opening.Originally posted by enfro View PostI have witnessed a new issue with the bike.
One of my colleagues has an Interceptor (2018 model). Recently he developed a problem of engine dying up without any warning as such while on a ride. He cranked the engine. It got cranked up. But when he throttle up, the engine died again. He tried again and in few attempts it again got cranked up. BUt died as he throttled up. Soon after the battery died due to excessive cranking. He took it to the mechanic and found that fuel injection system had traces of water. After checking the bike for half an hour, he couldn't find the problem. Then a senior mechanic inspected it and it came to fore that the rain water (or while washing, etc) which gets accumulated on the tank neck i.e. below the fuel cap on the outside (and which is supposed to get drained through the drain pipe) was receding very very very slowly. But when he checked the area below the bike, the water was not dripping.
He checked the drain pipe and came to conclusion that the pipe was leaking water inside the tank and that has caused the problems in cranking. It is a metal pipe which goes through inside the tank. He said that the metal drain pipe must have gotten blocked earlier and the rust formed resulting in cracks, and hence the leakage of water and may be dust, inside the fuel.
The entire tank was changed and resultantly the whole fuel inj. system, the throttle bodies had also to be changed.
Hearing this, I checked the drain pipe of my bike, through this hole-

I poured some water to find out things, and to my surprise the water stayed there stubbornly. I waited for about half an hour and also check the area below the bike to see the water drops if any. But found none. I got the pipe which is supplied with the Motul Chain Clean and inserted it. It went quite deep and then I pushed the spray. The pressure of the can made some sizable amount of muck to came out. I think the pipe was choked. I re poured the water but again the same result. It didn't go down and stayed there.
Then I unscrewed the tank and raised it a bit. Then I detached the rubber pipe from the drain pipe opening (which was there below the tank, towards the seat, on left side). the rubber pipe was absolutely fine. I used the Motual Chain Clean again and inserted the can pipe, this time from below. the result was same. The can pressure made some some muck to came out again. I though the problem was solved. But my stars seemed not helping. re poured the water but again the same result. It didn't go down and stayed there.
Anyone has had this issue? Please suggest how to clean. I guess I have to find a 2 feet long plastic pipe which can go through the entire drain pipe. But have found none so far.
Do check your rides also. Better late then sorry.
Could not click inside the tank, but this diagram is helpful in understanding.
