Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
I have witnessed a new issue with the bike.
One of my colleagues has an Interceptor (2018 model). Recently he developed a problem of engine dying up without any warning as such while on a ride. He cranked the engine. It got cranked up. But when he throttle up, the engine died again. He tried again and in few attempts it again got cranked up. BUt died as he throttled up. Soon after the battery died due to excessive cranking. He took it to the mechanic and found that fuel injection system had traces of water. After checking the bike for half an hour, he couldn't find the problem. Then a senior mechanic inspected it and it came to fore that the rain water (or while washing, etc) which gets accumulated on the tank neck i.e. below the fuel cap on the outside (and which is supposed to get drained through the drain pipe) was receding very very very slowly. But when he checked the area below the bike, the water was not dripping.
He checked the drain pipe and came to conclusion that the pipe was leaking water inside the tank and that has caused the problems in cranking. It is a metal pipe which goes through inside the tank. He said that the metal drain pipe must have gotten blocked earlier and the rust formed resulting in cracks, and hence the leakage of water and may be dust, inside the fuel.
The entire tank was changed and resultantly the whole fuel inj. system, the throttle bodies had also to be changed.
Hearing this, I checked the drain pipe of my bike, through this hole-
I poured some water to find out things, and to my surprise the water stayed there stubbornly. I waited for about half an hour and also check the area below the bike to see the water drops if any. But found none. I got the pipe which is supplied with the Motul Chain Clean and inserted it. It went quite deep and then I pushed the spray. The pressure of the can made some sizable amount of muck to came out. I think the pipe was choked. I re poured the water but again the same result. It didn't go down and stayed there.
Then I unscrewed the tank and raised it a bit. Then I detached the rubber pipe from the drain pipe opening (which was there below the tank, towards the seat, on left side). the rubber pipe was absolutely fine. I used the Motual Chain Clean again and inserted the can pipe, this time from below. the result was same. The can pressure made some some muck to came out again. I though the problem was solved. But my stars seemed not helping. re poured the water but again the same result. It didn't go down and stayed there.
Anyone has had this issue? Please suggest how to clean. I guess I have to find a 2 feet long plastic pipe which can go through the entire drain pipe. But have found none so far.
Do check your rides also. Better late then sorry.
Could not click inside the tank, but this diagram is helpful in understanding.

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Sorry i missed the wobble part, i got my front tyre replaced for same no relation to handle here in this wobble , i too had this at 80kmph and many other before me and after me have got tyre replacement done under warranty for this. In my case cone set, rim Turing , balancing everyone was fine so finally the replaced the tyre and wobble is gone. One friend on gt got his front tyre replaced last week and his wobble Issue is gone now.Originally posted by yashasvi View PostGot my 1 year service done recently, no oil was changed as the bike has run only 4300 kms, only 250 ml of oil was topped up as they said the level was low. I opted out of the chain maintenance yet at the time of delivery I noticed the chain was cleaned and lubed.
They said the handle is over tightened and we'll fix that, now the handle wobbles at speeds of around 80 kmph on leaving the handle, i know i am not supposed to do it, but i just did it for a while and noticed the handle moving.
Total bill: 162rs, they didn't charge me for the chain maintenance.

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
I am not sure if the claim that the handle is overtightened is correct. Plus I also am sure the wobble beyond 80 kmph has no correlation to the claimed overtightened handle. I have been riding my Interceptor for over 20 months now. I have brought up this point during all servicings till date. My front wheel has been changed under warranty but to no avail. The mild wobble continues to persist. The wobble increases considerably if you are driving with saddlebags and luggage on the pillion seat.Originally posted by yashasvi View PostGot my 1 year service done recently, no oil was changed as the bike has run only 4300 kms, only 250 ml of oil was topped up as they said the level was low. The wobble is felt even if you don't leave your hands. You have to loosen your grip on the handlebar as one usually does during a long ride to relax your hands and upper body. During my annual service I changed over handle configuration to GT 650 clip ons. That, alongwith the rear shock pre load dialled up to max seems to have reduced the wobble issue a little bit. But it still persists.
Others who have faced the same problem have told me to get the wheels balanced. Unable to do that in the corona times. Keeping my fingers crossed. This is my only grouse about an otherwise blemish-free bike. Would like to know from fellow riders as to how they have overcome this problem...

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
I have ridden less than u thanks to corona, but i opted for fresh oil as old one is more than a year old , got valve adjustment done too for first time and paid around 2900/-Originally posted by yashasvi View PostGot my 1 year service done recently, no oil was changed as the bike has run only 4300 kms, only 250 ml of oil was topped up as they said the level was low. Gasket and sealant were charged for engine head as per company sop they have to change it with valves adjustment.

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
I agree. But this dealer has a different service booking system that automatically selects it. Even if the activity isn't carried out, I'll be charged for it is what he said. I found it very stupid too!!!Originally posted by enfro View PostChain clean and lube is optional. They cant force it upon you.

Still there is no full service before 10k kms or 12 months. Midway is the check up. Got this same information from my service center.Originally posted by dastaan_93 View PostYou got me worried for a second [emoji28] I just confirmed, I do have the Interceptor manual for the BS6 that I bought in Feb this year. Guess the manuals were also updated for the BS6 version. Thank you for bringing the changes to my notice [emoji4]

You got me worried for a second [emoji28] I just confirmed, I do have the Interceptor manual for the BS6 that I bought in Feb this year. I couldn't find any page that hosts coupons of any kind (guess they did go digital after all)but did find the page on periodic maintainance.Originally posted by Ijs View PostRead the periodic maintenance schedule(page114) in the manual pdf or hard copy , and the period of service. Also chek page 131 of manual 12month is the interval on the coupon(second service onwards) though they no longer tear these coupons as things are digital now. According to preodic maintenance schedule 10k kms or 6k miles is the full service with oil change and 10k kms is the mentioned replacement period for airfilter replacement. That is another thing if u happen to reach 10k kms in 6 months and if u don't Happened to reach 10k kms then also the full service is at 12moths interval.
6 monthly or 5k kms service is only the general inspection. And these records are maintain in RE's system data. I got call for six monthly inspection and also told the same by my showroom and service center. 10k kms or 12 months is also the interval for inlet and exhaust valve clearance which requires a head gasket change
This long service interval is the part of the beauty and simplicity of these machines.
I did not find the page for which u have shared the pic, service records page in twins manul are kept blank column and rows nothing printed there. seems like you got a different manual(regular re350/500)be sure that it is the manual for 650 twins. All of us here in Delhi have same manual.
I have the pdf too if u need.

Guess the manuals were also updated for the BS6 version. Thank you for bringing the changes to my notice [emoji4]

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Indeed but I was not planning to get hard panniers but a system that would accept the widest range of soft saddlebags .Originally posted by Chakrapani View PostLikewise here....but then when I got my Interceptor650 Zana was the only one manufacturing saddle stays for the bike.

Really appreciate the info on the meter bit. Thanks

Chain cleaning and lubrication is something they make money on.
I got my yearly service done recently and only charged for oil, oil filter and engine gasket (teppet adjustment done), chain clean and lube they didn't asked foe as they know i do it myself. Still i found my chain clean and lubed.
Replacement parts does take time to arrive
In warranty. But again new meters would again fogg up these are made like this ni seal inside the glass and speedo cable passes through leaves the place for moisture to enter
Really appreciate the info on the meter bit. Thanks

Re: Interceptor 650 Twin
Likewise here....but then when I got my Interceptor650 Zana was the only one manufacturing saddle stays for the bike. Hence there was not much choice. The aftermarket luggage options and available variety has expanded phenomenally in the later half of 2019. I would suggest we wait some more time for the options to really mature in the market. Since you may have purchased saddle stays recently I would recommend waiting for some more time before upgrading. There are some interesting options from Givi in addition to the one I have mentioned above. There are some custom options also available from an independent customiser called Hemant Darbar Customs (HDT customs). You might want to check all the options out before deciding.Originally posted by Manan View Postoof wish i got those before getting the zana ones, they seem to the solution that i was looking for.
My personal views on Hard luggage for Interceptor 650 are that hard case panniers and top box when fully loaded and mounted on the bike interfere with the dynamics of the bike. Tank slapping is what I have seen and experienced personally. Hence I would prefer to get proper feedback before I go for hard case panniers for my Interceptor 650.
Just to keep the imagination fired up check this out...

Second service is 10k kms or 12months. 6months is general check at 6month or at 5k kms. No oil change is done at check upOriginally posted by dastaan_93 View PostHello everyone!
I got my 2nd SVC done today and this time from a dealer in my hometown, Mangalore(I reside in Bangalore). The bike has barely run 2K kms but crossed the 6 month mark last week. A few things that I found rather strange-
1) The instrument cluster would regularly fog up and this time it had left a permanent mark on the inside of the glass- brought it to their attention. They say a replacement under warranty takes 15-20 days. Is this normal/true?
2) The SVC center guy claims that chain lube/cleaning is default for all service intervals and not something that we can opt out of. I don't see this mentioned anywhere in the periodical maintenance section of the manual. Are these dealers allowed to dictate such rules - is there no one from RE monitoring this?
I do not have an alternative. Karnataka has only 2 company owned outlets/SVC centers and they are in Bangalore. Who can I reach out to with my grievances.
