Before i purchased the Rtr180 i was considering the RTR 160 FI but when i heard news about the 180 being carb and that it told me a lot about the FI strategy of TVS. I dropped plans of th Fi and decided it would be the RTR 160 (carb/refresh) or the new RTR180. According to me , with such a strategy there is no saying when they would discontinue FI. I wonder if others share a similar opinion about FI with respect to manufacturers like TVS, Honda and Hero Honda?
I wouldn't say so. I saw another variant of RTR in Testing last week near TVS factory. And yeah it was red in color.

Sorry didnt peak closer as i had a bad headache.

@Julian: FI is kind of new to our manufacturers though they are made by Delphi. Its going to take our manufacturers atleast 2-3 iterations of bikes to get the FI system right, if they try. After all Bajaj scooter still needs a tilt to start, it was one heck of a design problem never corrected. The complexity more or less lies in the entire setup of design, build and maintain rather than just design. This compared to the bigger guys in the market like Yamaha and Honda who have FI systems on much smaller vehicles are much more successful in Implementing it right. About replacing the Injectors, they could have handled it better. Everything guaranteed that the upcoming FI bikes will be more perfect and easier to design.

what were u doing near the TVS factory? . If i were to get an Fi bike, i would go with Honda, simple as that. U know it will just work, no matter what. This is why i think the ZMR/ZMA/R--whatever lol, will be a hit; because of the PGM-Fi system.

We own a house in Hosur so i drive down there every once in a while and that route passes through the TVS factory in hosur.

About the Fi bikes Right now, yeah. But wait for some time when our manufacturers come with FI bikes. They would be much more fiiting into the market requirements than Honda can ever dream fitting their PGMFI system for small scooters.

If you want to know PGMFI on our HH and Honda bikes is a far simpler system as compared to both RTR-FI and the DTS-Fi engines. It just manages to replace the carb in a very costly way. The RTR-Fi and DTS-Fi implements a full blown FI system with most of the sensors minus the perfection of the PGMFi. Like i said its just a matter of time that we start seeing the advantages of the FI on Indian bikes.

Also FI will become more or less a standard by 2012 when our norms get stricter, petrol becomes pricier and running the engine any more leaner will make you feel like you are driving a moped. This applies especially to 100-125 cc bikes

            • First Servicing of RTR 180......

              Hi guys....i got my M3nac3....(RTR 180) on 7th July 2009.
Its been a long month since then as i got my RTO number after 9 days of the delivery of the bike....since then things have been pretty well between me and my bike....and today it was finally the time for her for the first servicing......

i was really happy when i took my bike to the Chatrapati TVS service centre the guy first thought it was a 160 but then after a closer inspection he was amazed to see the 180.He said this is the first 180 in pUne that we are going to do servicing of...!!
and i even told the guy that i want the rear fendar cap to be removed......at first he did nto understand and said no we dont do modifications here......go sumwhere else.....but then i showd him the built-in feature of the 180.....of the removable rear mud flap......i even showed him the mannual in which it was explained how to remove it.....he then said ok....but then was a little adamant to remove it as it would not be advisable to do so in the rains......but then i said to him that i wanted to click some pics.....and then i would agian come to fit the mud flap.....

i was really happy......as i reached the service station....at arnd 9am....i wud get the bike mostly tomo....but if its done i wud get it 2day evening....

i have clicked the pics of the bike when it was at the service station....
would post the pics of the bike before and after servicing..... pretty soon.......

Hoping the bike wud be more smooth and engine wud open up.....
still i have planned to keep the bike below 55km/hr till 1k kms.....

                    • @ cosplay - i Would advice to take it easy and dont use this moto man method .

WHat i woula suggest is -
1)Ride the first 160 km within 4k rpm and keep varying Rpms at all times and dont ride at constant speed even for a minute .No hard aceleration . warm up engine 10-15 seconds before riding .

change Oil and filter [Tvs mineral oil] ,ul see metal particles in drained oil and filter

2)Ride within 4k rpms and vary rpms but also give short bursts upto 70 when engine warm enough .continue till 600 Kms and get 1st service .

                      3) Now ride till 6k rpm till 100 kms with bursts upto 90-100 till 1500 Kms. run-in done

hey i have seen the moto mans site.....but i think he's telling to hard to go on new bike......like revving till 6k and short bursts till 90-100 .

Since i was not willing to follow motoman before 1st servicing....i would try it now.......or shud i..??

has any1 tried it on their new bikes...???

if yes give me the link to that thread.........
and 1 more Q is it for Indian Bikes........????????????

err, that's not really a warm up. some people take that long to put it in 1st and release the clutch after starting the bike.

                                that's not warm up man....
it takes 1 and a half mins for oil to reach the "head"...

the RTR takes atleast 5kms to warm up....
dont ever REV the hell outta ur engine before warming it up...

drive in the first 3 gears for the first 5kms to make engine reach it's optimun performance temp and dont exceed 5000RPM while doin so...

after that see that tacho goin to 10500 at evryshifts(power flow stops after that)

ride under 4000RPM till the first serv and under 5000RPM till 1000 kms and short bursts to 6000 are ok till 1000...

the moment you'll see 1000 in ur ODO hit the highway warm up the bike and rev the hell outta it....

                                now that's simple...
