Right. I should have changed timing chain kit completely. I shall change whole timing chain kit and post result tomorrow

Exactly. I changed timing chain kit and it runs silent. Old chain was slightly longer.

Yes. Oil comes out as I opened inlet tapet cover. Now my problem is solved

Finally back to this thread. Due to some personal issue couldn't be active. Moreover i logged in using a wrong id and wondered why i was not allowed to post. Until our mod Divyasharan pointed it to me over whats-app chat. Have been seeing this group picking up steam from some time.

Joy is now at 4.25 lacs km. Due to lock-down i am stuck at workplace and joy is at home. Can't go to home as its in another district. May be inter district travel over private vehicle resumes for emergency workers like us.

Missing joy in life(pun intended), and also missing parents.

Lots of discussion now going on in group.

Will see the discussions and reply when i have gone over all posts that i have missed.

Welcome back sir. I hope the govt will ease some lockdown restrictions and allow inter-district travelling.

By the way, I saw a BS6 Passion Pro in flesh. It has no resemblance to both Passion pro 100 & BS4 Passion pro 110. Engine & chassis are completely new and it feels well made. The bike feels a lot like Honda Shine. Even exhaust note is similar to the Shine. Seems like Hero has grown up as an independent manufacturer.

The new engines look clean and sound very Honda-esque. Didn't expect any of this from Hero. I'll reserve my opinion until I get to ride one.

I am in mental block due to these things.Daily office in this crisis and can't visit home in weekends due to restrictions.

But hell what to do.Slowly getting depressing.

Yes, these engines are completely new and built in house by hero.

The new 110cc engine is actually as 112 cc than older 109 cc.

This was done as the older engine had some complains by customers.

And the new engines are hell lot smoother.

Hello Everyone,
In this lockdown period, today I tried firing up my Dad's Splendor. What i found was quite shocking. After starting there was some tik-tik noise from the magnet cover, which after the engine warmed up vanished. I believe that this was indeed the crank noise. The bike was regularly serviced but till date the centrifugal filter nor the oil filter has been cleaned, neither have the valves been adjusted. It has done around 47,000 kms till date and is 17 years old. Now that noise from crank has really got me worried. I wonder if there is any problem. But maybe it was due to the fact that the bike was standing on the side stand for quite a while and all the oil drained out from the bearings. Second reason I suspect is the oil. Hero Honda used to recommend 20w40 for this engine back in the days but these service centers irrespective of the model year have used 10w30 in all bikes.Could this lead to increases clearance in the crank due to enhanced wear and tear? I did the last oil change myself and poured in 10w40 Mobil Super Moto(Semi Synthetic).
Another concern was that there was noise from the timing chain which was present even when the engine warmed up. So decided to pull out the cam chain tensioner and see what's going on with that. To my surprise this is what I found .

The rubber on the top of the cam chain tensioner had this indent.

Whereas the tensioner itself had significant cracks. These cracks were not due to metal fatigue but it seemed like the top layer of the metal had eroded. Although the tensioner itself was fine and was holding the pressure nicely but still should I be replacing it?
After the spring was elongated and and placed back in the bike even then the cam chain noise didn't disappear. I'm guessing that the cam chain is now asking for a replacement. Also should I be replacing the oil pump gear since that is very much prone to failing on these bikes.

Thanks.

I am afraid, you may have to change complete timing kit. Exact same things had happened with my Passion Pro. I took out the tensioner for inspecting and found the rubber to be worn out. Replaced the rubber, elongated the spring and put the tensioner back. But the sound increased horribly. I made a serious mistake by elongating the spring as it increases it's diameter and hinders the working of the tensioner. In the end, I had to replace timing chain and tensioner both. Timing chain kit is available which contains timing chain, roller, oil pump gear and tensioner spring and it costs 500rs. The tensioner is separate and costs 90rs.

Since yours is an old model Splendor and you've used 20w40 grade for most of it's life, it would be better to continue using the same. It won't completely eradicate crank noise but will dampen it to a great extent. Also it's the recommended grade for your Splendor. My Passion Pro has 10w30 recommended grade but I've used 20w40 from about 20k to 90k kms on the odo because it gives much better NVH levels. And when I switched back to 10w30 again at around 90k, the crank started developing noise. Now I am again using 20w40 and the crank noise has substantially reduced. Hero and almost all others are recommending 10w30 grade for better cold starts which in turn ensures overall better engine life. But at the compromise of overall refinement & top end power.

Crank noise will seldom occur at idle , it can be heard when the engine is under load . Also tappet noise occur when engine is hot , usually not at startup . So probably it's nothing or the timing chain . If you do the timing chain - replace whole kit .
Stop worrying about oil grade - as long as it gets ANY oil of ANY grade crank will be fine , all the other parts shall be fine too . But oil level & circulation is worth worrying - for that the centrifugal & mesh filter cleaning is must at once - after which with timely oil changes they'll be fine for years and years . Get tappets adjusted once too , any mechanic can do it in 10 mins . If the recommended oil for the bike was 20w40 when purchased , stick to it - no problem , just check the oil level once in a while and maintain correct levels .

For all -

Beware that this happens between the tank & seat . I had taken all precautions and even replaced the OE protective-film once , but ten years is a long time . This has potential to destroy your fuel-tank .
This is after the protective film-sticker was removed and all rust/residue thoroughly cleaned with wd40 .

further rusty spots scraped out with a wood-chisel , wiped with petrol and thin film of lead-oxide primer applied and set aside to dry for 2 days ( taking advantage of lockdown ) . will apply black enamel paint and dry again afterwards . then use a new protective film plus stips of inner-tube rubber before putting the seat back on . Any other ideas ?

Today evening changed the engine oil for my Hero Splendor Plus BS4 model, done service with ASC, informed them to just topup the oil and then changed the oil with a local mechanic.

This is the first time I am using an oil other than Hero OE oil since the bike was purchased.

Sorry to hear what happened, from what I can hear in the video, there is no compression from the cylinder when you press the self start. Also when you kick, I can hear a metal bearing sound. Definitely something is broken within engine, either the clutch/crank drive-train or something in the cylinder head/cylinder block.

Dont try to start using self or kick anymore, it'll damage the internal parts even more. Take it to nearest mechanic or service center, ask them dismantle the engine and inspect.

When was the last time you changed oil?

Dont try to start using self or kick anymore, it'll damage the internal parts even more. Take it to nearest mechanic or service center, ask them dismantle the engine and inspect.

When was the last time you changed oil?
Hi I had got the bike serviced last month and got the engine oil changed , it's been like around120-150 km I have ridden after that and had also got the timing chain adjusted the mechanic didn't say anything like enginer needs work he mentioned though clutch needs change but he said that it can last toll next service .
Am really scared now since I am not near home now but at an unknown place and what if a mechanic tries to take me for a right.
