I haven't tried looking for Veedol yet. I'm yet to try Veedol and Valvoline. For the next oil change of my Splendor, which is gonna be it's first non-asc service, I'm planning to use Gulf Pride 4T 10W-30. Once past, 12.5k kms, I'll use Gulf PowerTrac 4T 10W-30.

Maybe after it once it crosses, more than 15k kms, I'll try using 20W-40 grade oils.

Brand wise, I'm planning to stick to Gulf and give ENI a try later. I'll check whether Veedol is available anywhere around my area once the current lockdown is over.Click image for larger version

Yes sticking to mineral oil and a drain interval of around 1700kms seems wiser to me, I'm planning to use Gulf Pride 4T 10W-30 for the next service. But pinaki sir told to try Gulf PowerTrac 4T 10W-30 as it's a very good synthetic oil and priced very aggressively.

For some idealogical reason, I'll try to do away with Castrol, Shell and Motul, and yet still choose very good oils from other brands for our bikes.

Right , oil choice is dictated by usage & min-max ambient temperatures you're likely to encounter and usually advised by the engine-maker's chart . Highway runs are not stressful for the engine as it's being cooled by adequate airflow . It's short-tripping and city stop-go traffic that falls withing "severe service" because during the former the engine ( and oil ) never reaches the optimum operational temperature and in case of city-traffic crawling it overheats from lack of constant airflow .

Well , it's not entirely correct ( for mineral based oils ) . A 10Wxx oil is 10W oil with some additives in it to make it stick better to engine's internal surfaces at higher temps . It's very similar effect as adding fine sawdust to oil to make it stick better . Otherwise a 10Wxx oil will be just as thin as any 10 grade oil at any temperature . A 10w30 oil at 100°C shall stick almost like a 30 grade oil would at 100°C inside the engine , but it'll be as thin as a 10 grade oil would at 100°C .

All this is the theory . In practice we cannot switch oil just when we encounter some traffic or a hill climb . So for our daily conditions usages and climate in a well run motor that's specified for 10w30 it would be best to use a synthetic 10w30 . This is because synthetic oils do not depend on additives to maintain it's lubrication properties and is far less affected by temperature . Less additives also means more stable performance and longer oil life . But then again high cost of synthetic oil has to be considered , it's false economy to use an expensive oil and extend the drain interval considerably .

This is why presently as an alrounder I really liked the Gulf Powertrac . I filled the 10w30 savsol and valvoline-champ for the last 2 fills . They are good oils in winter but right now not so good - ofcourse they'll be just fine in that sense that no harm will come the motor . But previously I was using the 10w30 Powertrac ( formerly Gulf 4T Synth ) for 2 years continuously . It's a very well behaved oil for cold winter mornings ( cold starts ) , short-tripping , city-traffic as well as long straight runs . It handles varying conditions very nicely for little more cost and stays good for full six months ( I usually cover less than 3k kms in that time nowadays ) . Sorely missing it .

Hellow Guys,i see theres a big discussion going on oil grades.Generally all Hero,Suzuki and yamaha bikes go with 10W30 oil.10 ,30 means degress W for winter, that is between temp 10degeee to 30, the oil will be liquid and perform well. You see in south indian states(kerala,T N,Andhra,Karnataka) the temp can reach 35-38 degress between 11:30 am to 4pm..temp never goes below 20-25.So ideally a 10w40 fully synth oil can be used from 100cc bikes upto 1000cc bikes ,from hero splendor to karizma to ct 100 to cbr etc...But in northern.states like delhi, punjab, haryana, etc temp rarely crosses 30, so 10w30 would be ideal, but during winter if temp goes below 10,u cam use 5w30 or 0 w 30.Fully synth oil is much better than mineral oil,it protects engine and moving components from wear and tear plus u need to change it once in 5K kms and u dont need an oil flush for fully synth.i have used my karizma zmr which i bought in 2012 and used it for 62000 kms till 2020 on shell ultra 10w40 fully synth. The proof thay fully synth is better for engine is on my verdict. After 6.5 yrs i gave my engine for overhaul ..the estimate was 15-20k..but i got a call saying most of everything in the engine is fine..they just put new piston rings, changed one cam chain guide, put a new cam chain tensioner, cleaned thr engine and total bill came to rs 4750.The service said he was so happy to see the engine and bike well maintained.Last 5 yrs,i do the service myself. Also after starting the bike i idle for 20 sec before moving so that the engine is well lubricated.Every 5000 km i change oil and clean the filter.Additionally this year, i learnt to take out the petrol tank, injector, fuel pump, petrol filter and throttle body and manafed to clean them.I drive at 45-50 kmphr and get a mileage of 48 in city and 56 in highway.8 yrs old bike, even with my weight of 107 kg,manages to ride at 116kmpr in highwats easily..So go for fully synth oil, do regular service once at 5000km yourself( you will save a lot og money and your engine will take care of you).EnjoyClick image for larger version

MotoMan, really amazing to see the splendor club from Calicut. The pre 2000 model splendor is my all time favourite. That masculine engine sound, acceleration, zero vibration is simply awesome.
Reminds me of an incident back in my college days in 2013. My friend had a red splendor. It was a 2004 model I think. The last model which came before the splendor+. Every weekends we go from college to railway station in the bike, park the bike and go home by train. The distance from college to railway station is 30 kms. It’s the NH 45 chennai to Madurai highway. The bike does 90 kmph in half throttle. Very silent and zero vibrations. We use to cover the distance within 30 mins. Also used to overtake all the buses with ease. That splendor is still with him and maintained in top notch condition.
Bismaya, yes bro. 1 lakh km mark should wait till lockdown gets over.

My friend has tried petronas and Eni..Petronas is better than Eni as well as the stock hero oil.If possible use shell ax7 semi synth or mobil 10w40 super moto(both arround rs 400/liter) and it will be better.

I have seldom seen any marketing or banners for these brands, Castrol, Shell and Motul enjoy the limelight generally.

I have enquired ENI and Petronas oil distributors, they told to contact once the current lockdown is over. Let's see.

Try to use both the oils bro,Use Eni and after 2k kms drain and use petronas and later use shell ax7 and see the difference.Shell is quality and performance bro..If an Italian Giant like Ferrari and Ducati use only Shell Oil,then thats no joke bro.

Totally agree abt shell. I haven't used shell 4-stroke oils yet but I've been using Shell Advance VSX as 2T oil on my Suzuki MAX100R for almost 4yrs now and it's great.

Thats good to know bro.Chaning mineral oil at 2K, Semi Synth at 3K and Fully Synth at 5K kms regularly and with smooth riding will ensure long engine life.

P.S. Keep the gearing stock, by dropping a teeth at the front you'd be making the already short gearing even shorter.

I am aware of it but I need more acceleration torque to overtake the local Activas in traffic , little less top-end doesn't matter for this

The closest match you have is of the Old CT100 which came with 13T front, newer models come with 14T, same as the Splendor.

Problem with these commuter bikes are that even though there are several 428 pitch sprockets out there the output shaft dia would not match as its smaller, I know cause I tried to install a Unicorn's 15T in my CT100B a few days ago.

I am aware of it but I need more acceleration torque to overtake the local Activas in traffic , little less top-end doesn't matter for this
Ideally for Balanced power you need your final drive ratio to be 3.00, the Splendor's is slightly over that favoring acceleration even in stock form, if you get the old CT100's kit(i.e if Single Sprocket not Available) then you could shorten it to a drastic 3.60, which would give you better acceleration in top gear at the cost of top speed, I say top gear cause the rest would be way too short to use.

Personally, I'd suggest you to keep things stock and drop a gear and redline the motorcycle to overtake but if you're willing to experiment then do keep us posted.

Cheers,
