I am going over some routine maintenance items on the bike one by one over weekends . Last weekend I removed the whole rear wheel and sprocket carrier and checked the bearings and all , little greasing here and there was necessary . The rear brake is at the limit of adjustment now , ASK shoes needs replacement ? It's been around 10k kms or more . Hopefully not the brake drum liner - what are the service limits for it ? measurements ?
I found a very good grease for the brake cams, it stays where put and is great for high temperature & water-wash resistance . I am systematically replacing all non ball-bearing grease with it . It is black grease from Waxpol and better than any lithium white grease I've used . Try it

This weekend I shall dismantle clean and lube the handlebar mounted switches . main beam switch is acting up after washes .

10k seems fair amount of life for brake shoes, replace them as its critical part. I would suggest you buy OE brake shoes not aftermarket ASK ones. Reason being i carried out exact same replacement a month ago and these aftermarket ASK shoes have no bite or much retarding efficiency . OE shoes although expensive by 60-80rs do their job much better. Brake liner i guess never wears out :P . I remember @sibun went a lac on stock drum and it was still good as new , perhaps its still the same one . Black grease is my next must have item now, will get it . I dont know whether it will make much sense but once you dismantle switchgear use this black grease to coat edges of switches, dual benefits
      Switches stay smooth
      They appear black

My brake drums are stock even at 4 lacs kilometers almost. Not even worn 1%. The reason being i change brake shoes well before they are completely worn out.
And as Rohiit has said go for OE brake shoes. The present ASK are very bad. The OE has furious bite. Go for Asbestos OE shoes.

As i said in my previous post i have changed my headlight to Osram silverstar, dome to thunderbird and got a new regulator fit.

So the light with Osram silverstar:-

But the OE shoes that came with my bike were non-asbestos and hard as rock and poor bite . Which is why I changed them out very soon , I still have them in stock almost new . So you are saying that present Hero OE shoes for Splendor are asbestos type again ? Please clear this brother , money no object but I can't check the OE shoe packet for asbestos or non-asbestos before I buy at the dealers . I want asbestos shoes only . Also ANL shoes available here . what do you suggest ?

There are two types of shoes coming. Asbestos and non asbestos.
The asbestos price is ₹110 & ₹120 for smaller and bigger drums respectively.
The non asbestos are ₹190 & ₹220 respectively for smaller and bigger drums respectively.

Tell to shop keeper that ₹120 or ₹110 wala brake shoe. Don't hear his saying of non asbestos better.
OE quality is far better than Ask. Another difference is that non asbestos part number will be ktc and kwa but asbestos will be kcc and 198 or gb

                • Speedometer cable

I am facing a strange problem. My CD Dawn has speedometer cable which is click type at the front wheel.

Till almost 42000 km my original cable was good even inner & outer. I use to apply oil on it.

At 42000 km speedometer stopped & during service mechanic replaced speedometer drive set. Speedometer work fine for next 2000km almost.

Now it stopped. I checked & replace the inner cable as it was broken 1 month back.

Since then it work for some time, later need to open end near front wheel, Push cable back towards speedometer. After some days or may be some times on drive , the cable comes down again and loose contact in the speedometer. almost 40mm cable comes out when i open wheel side.

I gain push it back. This happened now 4-5 times. hence want to know from expert solution on this problem.

I suspect routing of speedometer cable is improper which is why its coming out from unit. Re-Route it and use a new outer+inner cable set this time just to be tension-free. Look at new splendor or any bike to get idea which is the proper route of speedo cable.

                      Dear Sibun/ experts on tuning

Confused with your method of tuning carburetor

Now close the protruding brass pipe from the carb with one of your thumb , If you dont close it , Bike wont idle and it will shut off.

Which is this pipe. The one which connects corroborator and just inserted in through chassis ?

Tuning on this bike is straight forward.
Warm the engine by riding 3-4 kms.

Raise the idling to 2-2.5k approx.
No open the air screw from full tight slowly till you get highestidle.
                          That is the correct setting.

Now lower the idle by idling screw to normal.

I don't have a handheld tachometer to check my engines rpm, during idle, and I'm not a seasoned mech to know the bike's rpm by listening to its beat and note. Brother Sibun, is there not a way for adjusting the air screw by number of turns from fully tight position and similarly for idle screw. All these days I thought I had mastered this art, but just recently I noticed I was running a rich setting which made my otherwise smooth bike emit smoke which smelt of petrol and reduced the overall refinement of it. I'm hoping to fix this issue for good this time, thanks in advance.
