Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Had written about engine hiccups during cold tart previously. Waited for kms to pile up then; turned AF screw clockwise between 1/8 to 1/4 turns. Hiccups have reduced but till haven't vanished completely. Becomes particularly irritating if I encounter heavy traffic immediately after I start because hiccups take approx 1- km to disappear. So in heavy traffic I've to keep revving engine (by using clutch thus increasing its wear).
Changed oil to Shell AX7 10w40 at 2500 km. Engine feels smoother now. Haven't checked FE after oil change. Waa 50 kmpl in heavy traffic before.
Pic of my park plug taken during oil change at 2500 km. Haven't touched the carb apart from what i mentioned above.
Expert opinion? Is it ok or AF ratio is incorrect? Is it the source of engine hiccup? Solution?
(Few of my keyboard keys gave up recently so apologies if there are any spelling mitakes)Last edited by milindkv; 09-22-2015, 03:12 PM.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
After covering 32,500 kms on the odometer, bike was serviced. Works which were done are listed below
--> Engine oil (Veedol take off 4t 20w 40)
--> Carburettor was taken out and cleaned. (He messed up with the air screw as well)
--> The clamp where the front portion of the seat locks with the frame was bent. So, welded it.
--> Sprocket inner oil seal replaced ( I don't know why) Since mechanic was telling that oil was leaking through that area, which i strongly disagree.
--> Rear wheel rubber dampers was replaced ( This too I don't know why) The mechanic showed me some play, about 0.5 cms back and forth in the rear sprocket. He told that this much play should not be there. Also, forced me to replace it.
--> Rear wheel sleeve replaced (This too I don't know why), The mechanic forced me to replace.
Overall, I was ripped off this time for sure. This service costed me Rs.785 including everything. All other services hardly costs me Rs.350 or 400 including engine oil.
Lesson learnt: Never go to this mechanic too. The former mechanic was way better than this fellow.
Another one thing, for lubricating the chain, this mechanic again forced to buy a motul chain spray bottle. I denied.
Anyways, bike runs fine after fiddling with the air screw by trial and error method. Have to check the mileage next.

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
Try to take at least 2 pics of the plug , one sideways and closer . Nothing apparent on the plug that may cause the problem you mention . AF is okay . The other 2 things to check now are 1) compression 2) ignition . I strongly suspect the latter - take off plug cap , inscrew it from wire and holding the bare wire end about an 1/2 inch from the frame of the bike ( well away from anything touching you ! ) and ignition key in ON , kick the starter . Watch the spark - a fat blue spark should jump from the end of the wire to the frame . Yellowish spark indicates weak ignition . Then take out the spark plug , re-attach the plug-cap to wire and fix to the plug , lay the plug on the engine body and kick - again watch how the plug sparks . While kicking the motor over , keep your body well away from the electrical parts to avoid a shock .Originally posted by milindkv View PostHad written about engine hiccups during cold tart previously .... NO worries, tune using sibun's method or set it at OE turns.Originally posted by jeswin View PostAfter covering 32,500 kms on the odometer, bike was serviced. Works which were done are listed below

Nice to see.But how did it bent in first place ?--> The clamp where the front portion of the seat locks with the frame was bent. So, welded it.
When engine oil is overfilled by 50-100ml ,it leaks past this seal. Happened to me and changing it solved it. Bike was leaving pool of oil whenever i parked.Eventually oil level reached min.So never ignore oil leakage.--> Sprocket inner oil seal replaced ( I don't know why) Since mechanic was telling that oil was leaking through that area, which i strongly disagree.
Rubber is a material which will age irrespective of usage. So if its been 3 or more years then it will require replacement.Whenever you engage clutch you will feel slight delay in activation of sprocket and wheel, if play is too much then you can hear a tap noise everytime you pull from standstill, this is the sprocket groove moving inside the rubber damper, the purpose of damper is simply to keep snug fit and damp the vibrations from chain .--> Rear wheel rubber dampers was replaced ( This too I don't know why) The mechanic showed me some play, about 0.5 cms back and forth in the rear sprocket. He told that this much play should not be there. Also, forced me to replace it.
May/may not be at fault , can only be told after visual inspection.--> Rear wheel sleeve replaced (This too I don't know why), The mechanic forced me to replace.
Motul 5100 engine oil costs 500/- per liter, 300V is 1000rs per literOverall, I was ripped off this time for sure. This service costed me Rs.785 including everything. All other services hardly costs me Rs.350 or 400 including engine oil.
. Feel better now ?

Good, if you can do cleaning on own then do it. Mech can never care like the owner can.Another one thing, for lubricating the chain, this mechanic again forced to buy a motul chain spray bottle. I denied.
Good to know , if i remember stock screw was 1.5-1.75 turns .Anyways, bike runs fine after fiddling with the air screw by trial and error method. Have to check the mileage next.

Hi,
Below are the upgrades done successfully:
1) Replaced Stock Headlight to Swaraj Mazda Bus Headlight, Neolite Metal reflector with Glass. Crazy idea, One day I saw the Mazda Bus Headlights, 2 on each side and Adding to that I measured it and it was identical to the Splendor ones :-).
Reason being 4 Wheeler parts being they are lil strong compared to 2 wheelers. (no offenses Pl. My opinion only. I may be wrong here)
Its holder can hold H4 & even HS1 Bulbs and most importantly I can go for 55/60 H4 (Car Bulbs which are available plenty all over).
Its not a MFR which is of plastic one, fading away on higher bulbs usage very easily.
This Headlamp has to be screwed on all the 4 corners unlike the Splendors which has 2 on top and 1 in bottom middle, Mech took care of fixing this headlamp on the existing frame with out any alteration. (screws on opposite sides and iron wired on the other 2 opposite sides to fix it onto the frame).
If you would like to go for this prefer Neolite than Autopal and H4 bulb holder type not the B2 type (guess it was B2, old model round Bulb).
2) Replaced Bulb to HS1 Silverstar (Thanks Shoeb for the suggestion), the holder pin to Hella H4 (H4 pin can hold both H4 as well as HS1 but not vice versa).
3) Replaced the battery with 4AH maintenance free Exide one in the place of 2.5AH battery, Again I attribute this to Mech. He is really patient to hear and try new ideas as per suggestion. He has cut/altered the box and placed the battery in side ways as the horizontal way was not sufficient with the same box.
Result of the light : Low Beam is great and High beam is amazing, I can see until 50-60 mtrs or may be more .. very very clearly.
Will post the pictures soon.
I'm wondering if the current RR unit is able to juice my 4AH battery, Experts Pl. confirm.
I'm unable to make out coz I hardly drive less than 10 kms a day... occasionally....
Pending:
1) Bought the Bullet Machismo Regulator long time ago, Need to change to that.
2) Scratching away the black paint on the tip of the bulb.
3) Upgrade the coil by Ruby Electronics.
Pending Engine Mods:
Somender Singh Grooves onto the Head.
Regards,
Sri

Re: Hero Moto Splendor/Joy/CD-Dawn/Passion
After a long time, I am posting an update about my Splendor.
I have left my splendor for service and clutch is going to be rebuilt.
Service cost Rs. 700 and Clutch Rebuild cost Rs. 1000.
Will get the bike today night or tomorrow morning.-----------

Replying to your post one by one Rohit ji.Originally posted by RohIIT View PostNO worries, tune using sibun's method or set it at OE turns.
Nice to see.But how did it bent in first place ?
.
1, The old mechanic set it into a slightly rich ratio. I use to turn about 0.2 turns anticlockwise every day. So, one day it became lean and felt irritating to ride. So the next day, I turned the screw about 0.3 turns clockwise, and the next day, bike was normal, mileage was as usual 70+ kmpl
2, I will post a photo. Whenever the seat is removed and fitted back, the lock of the seat would fall inbetween the clamp and the frame rather than falling below the clamp. After welding, no problem.
3, The oil was not at all leaking through the inner sprocket oil seal. It was leaking through the neutral rubber cap (I forgot the name again). This is the second time the rubber cap was replaced. After replacing, oil leak stopped.
4, I always wondered why those rubbers were there. Only now I came to know its purpose. The symptoms of that worn out rubber what you have told is clearly understood, but bike did not show any sign of that delayed sprocket rotation.
5, I left the rear sleeve at the workshop itself, so am not able to post a pic!
6, Regarding that engine oils' prices, I really feel much better now
The odo has clocked 33,000 kms and running fine. A trouble free owner now.
