    • [*=1]Replaced the engine oil to veedol take off 4t 10w 30. The engine revs more freely than the 20w 40
      [*=1] Water washed the bike
[*=1] Cleaned the spark plug with a cloth

This will not clean plug properly , it will remove outer layer of carbon only , use a wirebrush to clean it but take care of clearance.Plugs nowadays are self cleaning and hardly require attention.

[*=1] Cleaned the air filter by tapping it on the floor and blowing air from my mouth

It will clean upto some extent but better it replace it after 6-7k as it costs 120 something and will be better than cleaning

    • [*=1] Adjusted the chain, greased it and lubed it
[*=1]Greased the clutch lever, front brake lever
      [*=1] Lubed the foot pegs
    • Nice job man , Keep up the DIY spirit , it will reward you in long run.

The drive chain is making a grinding noise. I guess it is the end of its limit. Will replace with a new chain and sprockets when the bike completes 30,000 km. Other than that, there is no problem. It runs smooth.

Drive chain noise it due to tight running or tight links . Lube graciously and check if its the same . Did you check the maker of chain ? . Its like lucky draw , some bikes like mine came with Diamond kit and some had Hero ones.

I guess yours is diamond or rolon kit. New set will cost around 600/-.

So we got it to the svc for regular service , the authorized personal showed that the bike is emitting black smoke, therefore he asked my friend that he would require to open the engine, my friend asked them to go ahead. It's better to use w40 oils in splendor. Veedol super swift 10w40, veedol take off 20w40, gulf 20w40 etc are good oils for splendor series. Use any w40 oil and this engine won't complain it will just run fine. No need to use expensive or semi synth oils. This little engine loves fresh oil every 2k kms.

My splendor died out in middle of rains and did not start even after hundreds of kick.
It was showing no sparks in plug.
Had to come back 4 km strolling with my bike because it was night and no help available.
Next day morning it started after 5-6 kicks, as the wire meeting the plug-cap was cut off 1 inch and refitted. Carburettor was retuned and its AFR screw was taken out and black deposits on its tip cleaned.
Again during evening ride it was missing some sparks when accelerated suddenly. It regained, when little bit of throttle was used. That evening it was used with low accelerator.
                      Now its running fine, again.

So experts, please suggest if something more remains to be done, like changing excitor coil, or any specific checks.

Splendor at 31k needing engine work. Man they are just bluffing. This engine can go on till you are bored.

I have seen engines running 22k without changing oils and still run fine.

The black smoke can be attributed to three faults:-
                          1. Improper fuel burn,
                          2. Improper timing.
                          3. Valves and heads.
First we will go with simple things.

Improper fuel burn is the most likely cause of black smoke. The solutions are these:-
                          1. Change the air filter. Even though it has foam filter and can be cleaned, but after some 15k needs to be changed.
                          2. Get the carb cleaned and re-tuned. Must be dirty and mistuned.
                          3. Change spark plug as the spark plug will have sorted.

                          Do these and report.

Timing cannot be changed unless timing section has been obtained and valve and head i will tell only if above solutions will not help.

                          And that estimate is bullshit.

Its because clutch plates do not cost Rs. 490.
Oil pump needn't be changed. Mine at almost 4 lacs but oil pump hasn't been touched.

Regarding that sound its the timing chain. Change the timing chain along with big rollers and small rollers.

In splendor you can use any oil. This engine will run like butter and for ages. But be sure to change at 2-2.5k kms.

Water may be getting in to the magnet casing. If the stator coils get wet the bike wont start.
